Intent: A personal weapon for Braith Achlys
Development Thread: N/A
Manufacturer: Braith Achlys
Model: N/A
Affiliation: Braith
Modularity: No
Production: Unique
Material:
  • Alchemized Durasteel Trimantium Mix
  • Braith's blood
Classification: Double-edged spear
Size: Hand-and-a-Half (Two Handed for normal people, Both One and Two-handed for Braith)
Length: 2 m
Weight: 12 kg
Special Features:
  • Lightsaber Resistant: Due to the application of alchemy on the polearm, the 'Maw of Midnight' is able to completely resist strikes from lightsabers - being entirely impervious to glancing blows and sustained strikes, as a well-crafted Sith Sword might be. Because the spear is constructed as one single, cohesive, material from one tip to the other, the entire weapon is able to parry, block, and brush aside lightsabers and weapons of that nature.
  • Blaster Begone: As with the lightsaber resistance, the application of alchemy has reversed the magnetic polarity of the entire polearm and enabled it to completely reflect any blaster bolts and light-based weapons, such as lasers, by coming in contact with them. Unlike the simmersilk that was less than fully metallic in origin, another creation of Braith's, the Maw of Midnight will not have those moments of failure in terms of deflecting and redirecting blaster bolts.
  • Heavy: Although properly balanced, the Alua'an created the weapon with the intent on giving it the extra weight she needed to push through defensive strikes and attempted parries. While the weapon is more than double the weight of the average polearm, the strength granted by the Alua'an's muscle densities compensates for the weight and evens out the burden. To attempt to block this with a lightsaber, especially without some extra form of defense as leverage behind the saber, would be foolhardy at best, fatal at worst.
  • Enchanted: Running along the shaft of the Maw are a series of runes which inscribe words of power into it. Of the enchantments provided by the addition of these runes, similar in relation to Sith Runes utilized by the Sith purebloods of old, the most prominent is that those who come in contact or are pierced by the two blades on either side of the spear have their stamina drained away with each strike. The idea behind this being to slowly chip away at the enemy's vitality and stamina while pressing them with the relentless assault that Braith could provide. The secondary enchantment, far less offensive in nature, was to bury the weapon's presence in the force, which provided an very meager way to assist in chipping through the defensive of force sensitives in situations where sight might be restricted - as there is hardly any way someone would be able to ignore a two-meter spear being thrust at them. In terms of being able to remain undetectable, it is likely that it would simply be muddled in the senses of others, but in a moment where opportunity lends itself it could mean the difference between life or death. However, because of the inclusion of the blood of the creator - in this case being Braith - neither of the two mentioned abilities have any effect on Braith or those directly related by blood to her. (Note: The stamina draining is entirely up to the opposing writer to write as they wish, whether it be minuscule, non-existent, or otherwise. Likewise, it is up to the other writer whether or not they would be able to see or predict the spear, regardless of its presence in the force.)
  • Blood Trailing: The primary effect of the presence of Braith's blood being added to the spear in generous amounts was to ensure she wasn't a victim of her own weapon, but the secondary motive behind its inclusion was to ensure that she could locate her own weapon even when it was not on her person or visible to the naked eye. Because of the blood trail placed on the weapon, Braith is able to both see and locate, as well as track, the spear through the use of the force.
Description:
Maw of Midnight, the weapon chosen by the so-called deity of a primitive culture nearly eleven thousand years prior to current time as her weapon of choice. Designed specifically for use in ruthless, relentless, combat in a form almost identical to a blend of Djem So and Juyo. Taking advantage of her incredible brute strength, the spear was designed specifically to play to that strength - its weight, even while properly balanced, granted her exactly the weight required to push through even the most sturdy of defenses, although one could argue that the strength which she possesses should be capable of doing so alone. Created after being introduced to enemies that used weapons such as lightsabers and vibroblades, each of which were incredibly light and nimble and allowed their wielders to carry on a fight for quite a considerable amount of time, the Alua'an inscribed the length of the spear with runes which enabled the blades on either end to slowly drain away the stamina of those they come in contact with after each strike.

Of course, even an absolute offensive powerhouse needed some form of defense - even if that defense was simply to aid its offense. To that end the remainder of the runes present on the blade buried the presence of the weapon in the force to a minuscule degree so that it would be difficult for other force users to pick up on it either via precognitive abilities or simply trying to locate its presence in either the light or the dark side of the force - and due to this power it is not present in either side of the duality. While in general this doesn't really mean much, except in that a battle of force users in melee combat was generally a quick one - one of quick reflexes and even quicker parries - however, because the spear is difficult to discern with the force it could mean that the split-second decision to alter the jab of the blade could actually mean a hit rather than simply another parry or glancing blow, something which could mean life or death for a seasoned Juyo combatant. And, as with most of Braith's creations, the weapon is detailed with a blood trail that enables her to see, locate, and track the weapon through the force. Due to it being an alchemical creation designed specifically to defeat weapons such as lightsabers and the like, the shaft and blades are both capable of trading blows with lightsabers and reflecting and redirecting blaster bolts.

To clarify, they must by wounded by the spear tip or the spiked pommel in order for this ability to effect an opposing writer? Like... They have to actually be cut by this for it to effect them, correct? Not just thwacked on the head by the shaft or glancing blows on someone's armor....

I was going to say something about this, but it's actually fairly basic. Just keep in mind that as a long, heavy weapon, actually getting this thing to line up between yourself and the incoming blaster bolt is going to be a challenge. And heavy caliber stuff, such as a tank's laser weapon or (god forbid) a Turbolaser will probably be more likely to blow this thing out of your hand than be deflected by it.

It needs to be direct physical contact with skin or anything.. under the skin. So, yes, in most cases this means being wounded. However if they're unarmored and have exposed skin and for whatever reason decide to touch the bladed ends it will have the same/similar effect, if not to a lesser degree.

To directly clarify/disclaimer, being struck against any width of material between the target and the blade without direct contact to the skin or piercing the flesh will not result in any stamina-draining effects. So armor or some material which would keep the blade from touching or breaking skin would result in absolutely no effect.

Just means the blaster bolts themselves won't break the spear in half and such, and will reflect such back. I don't think I'd ever hazard an attempt to try to block a heavy caliber laser cannon or turbolaser (which would be suicide), also wasn't thinking about that when I made the sub or description. It would be pretty ironic to see someone use this to try to block or deflect a turbolaser and then be reduced to ashes while the spear remains, now that you mention it..

Loonytoons. All of the Loonytoons.

What if someone else grabs the shaft itself with their bare hand, or lunges forward so that they are struck by the shaft instead of the blade?

Nothing would happen as far as the force draining goes. (Not sure if what I wrote is clear enough or not.)
