Max cargo space?

[member="Darth Erebos"]

Just be reasonable. Think "how many sixteen-wheel semis could I fit in the space I want for cargo" and then go from there.

really depends on how you're shipping stuff.

If you're doing what's called break freight, you're filling the hold up to every nook and cranny possible with items rather than large boxes or containers. Plus side is that you can fit a lot more stuff in there. Downside is that its slower to load and unload and you have to keep mass in consideration during loading, otherwise you'll put more stress on one engine or set of thrusters over the others as they compensate for the uneven load.

If you're doing container freight, you're loading large boxes or containers full of stuff and loading them into the ship. Upside is that it's faster to load and unload and easier to calculate mass on the ship. Downside is that you're overall shipping less stuff than break freight, but can ultimately move the items faster as you're not taking a week in port to load and unload the ship.

Just a thought.

anywhere between 300 to 300,000 depending on the shape of the ship and what else is in it.
Lancer firgate - 300 metric tons
Carrack light cruiser - 3,500 metrc tons
Nebulon B frigate - 6,000 metric tons
Star Galleon - 100,000 metric tons.
Hajen Fleet Tender - 300,000 metric tons

All of these are abouth the same size. While i think the galleon and hajen is a bit out there I could see a freighter that size lugging around 15,000 to 25,000 metric tones easy. Maybe even 50,000, but not more that's alot of weight. That's like carrying a WWII battleship in the cargo hold. If its is made to carry cargo i think 15 to 25k no more in my opinion. Adding weapons and shielding and armor would bring that number down.

I hope this helped :)

I think we all need to remember that these are generally being shipped through space, so if you're not unloading your cargo planet-side it doesn't really matter the mass of the object (because there is no gravity in space). It is all relative to the volume of space available.

Mass matters very much in space.

Yes, it matters, but not in the way that effects the space available by volume. As long as sufficient thrusters are present to give the ship momentum and inertia to move, it is fine. Your ship isn't going to break apart unless the mass of the objects (and the density) are significant. I'm not stating extremes and saying mass has no effect whatsoever, I'm saying having a few extra air speeders or tanks on your frigate is going to be just fine.
