“The Lady Protector walks freely enough among her subjects. Yet, like that black starling, eyes are always on me.”
BIOGRAPHY
Mazeryl was born on the planet Karazak in the Outer Rim. Her mother was an artist and her father was the owner of a corporation headquartered on the world, in the city of Oregina. A family entity that stuck to its roots over the decades, Xiron Corporation, or XiCorp for short, was one of the green companies that had emerged after the abolition of slavery in this limited region only time ago.
While the planetary government was still suffering with its reputation of slavery, smuggling, gunrunning and other things worldwide, Oregina was different. It broke its chains and freed its slaves, and made no attempt to hide its change of pace by protecting its politics with the blade.
From the Karazak Slavers’ Cooperative to other organizations hellbent on diminishing the basic rights of others, well, the citizens of the city of Oregina proved to be those denizens you don’t easily mess with.
Slavers and their remnants were liquidated, caves flushed out. Not much to shout about in the grand scheme of things, but recently abolishing slavery in this city was a symbol of the future. Their neighbors didn’t like it? That’s where XiCorp came in.
A worldwide conglomerate, founded by Thayn Xiron and now owned in a partnership between his descendent, Johteuge Xiron and his son, Maverin Xiron. The company owned a variety of industries without relying on slavery, which meant other entities of the planet relied on it.
Furthermore, Oregina had a force to be reckoned with. More than a city watch, what took to the floor were warriors. Two separate forces, named the Blades and the Shades, served as guards and soldiers, spies and assassins. They swore their sword to House Xiron and their Lady Protector.
Anti-slavery sentiments aside, the corporation had ties with the government of Karazak, so the city of Oregina was largely left unchecked, unchallenged. With father and brother running the company, there was one other figure to run the city as its mayor, and her name is Mazeryl Xiron.
Through the upbringing of her parents, she learned the subtleties of business and the intricacies of politics, the complexities of artistry and the dynamics of relationships. Maze also learned the art of the blade.
The corporate ladder was her brother’s to reach, Mave, while Maze climbed the rope of politics, and it towed her to the top. She stepped on the rungs of government through hard work and intense education.
Early into her twenties, Maze achieved the office of Director of Trade, a position that opponents would insist was handed to her on a silver platter by her family’s company, but Maze would offer a sweet smile and admit that it simply was attributed to time and effort.
Come election day, Mazeryl Xiron cast her name into the lot and won the office of Mayor of Oregina in a close majority. She is the youngest person to ever achieve such a feat in this region, at least.
Now the woman’s sights are on a new government to reshape the current if not replace it. The status quo is broken. It needs to change. XiCorp has since been an affiliate of the Rimward Trade League. Time to put its position and relationship to the test.
The independent city-state of Oregina will take to the political arena, in planetary and galactic placement. With or without the League, Karazak must become and must be a united front, a way forward, not backward, to mark its place as a free state instead of being a mar of a slave world. One girl, one woman, Mazeryl Xiron, will see that this is achieved and done.
"He, she, they will pay. No one walks away from me.”
PERSONALITY
Maze is easy to get along with, for the most part. While some girls spent their years chasing boys and getting their nails done, she was getting hers done while studying books and listening to her brothers chase each other around the Xiron Estate. From childhood to adulthood, things did not change much from there.
A bit of a loner, she spends most of her time keeping busy with business. Where once that meant an extent of her father’s business, and while it behooves her to help with it, by majority her focus is tuned to her position as mayor. She has little time or patience for distractions as most would expect.
Yet, beneath that surface of a politician is a woman who knows how to enjoy herself. Your smile might just not merit a return of her spread lips, for what it’s worth.
Nonetheless, Maze is just as comfortable sitting in a dark office with earbuds plugged in as she is walking the fountains or mountains, dining in fine restaurants or corner diners, and sipping brandy with dignitaries. Mayor she is, however, and she is not shy about showing it when the occasion calls for it.
"Blades in shadows unseen. My enemies know this, that my light is also my shadow, and they are torn between assassinating me day or night.”
ABILITIES
Maze is a trained warrior in the political arena. While not terribly talkative she is accustomed to getting her way with the flick of her tongue or with the flick of a wrist.
She has a high intelligence, having spent years pursuing academics and not much else. Having apprenticed in business before committing to politics, Maze has a variety of weapons at her disposal when it comes to the strategy and tactics of corporation and government.
Yet, she just as much used her free periods of study to train in martial arts and swordfighting. This is not unusual for an Oreginan, who keep their traditions of blades even though they longer apply the arts on slaves.
