- Basic Diagnostics: Like the enzymer that came before it, the Mediflux can take a blood sample to identify possible infectious agents. Taking that technology just slightly further by adding a substance analyzer, the Mediflux can run a basic lab test to determine what nutrients the patient is lacking - whether its minerals, proteins, vitamins, trace elements, etc. It can then suggest the recommended amount and format to make to correct these deficiencies on the display on the front right side of the device. In case of a systems malfunction or in the event that the patient's species is not in the Mediflux's database, it can synthesize products based on manual input.
- Replicator: Mediflux combines the basic technological elements of a synthe-nutrient replicator and an enzymer, which allows the Mediflux to synthesize the necessary nutrients or antidotes. The end product can be a liquid that can be imbibed or fed through injection or IV, or it can be a solid, nearly tasteless wafer. Liquids are drained from a port in the back of the device, whereas solids are dispensed out of a retractable tray on the left side of the device.
- Modular Input Feed: While Mediflux does come with a small supply of basic feedstock to produce things, eventually it becomes depleted, especially with severe injuries or mass casualty event. Consequently, Mediflux can create new feedstock from almost anything found in the immediate environment, whether its dirt, water, debris, or other organic matter. To do this, it uses a variety of enzymes found on the classic gyrowheel-series recycling droid and micro tractor beams to quickly tear apart whatever is fed into the device at the molecular level. These elements and basic compounds are then immediately shunted to the feedstock area before it can be pumped to the replicator.
- Modular Output Ports: Mediflux's liquid output ports can accept a variety of adaptors, allowing the liquid to be easily drained into canteens, cups, and similar devices for drinking, or attached to intravenous lines to be immediately and directly pumped into the patient. This latter method is particularly important in severe injuries or poisonings, as the Mediflux's product can start having a much more immediate effect.
- Modular Power Source: Mediflux by default uses the simple powerpacks commonly used in everyday devices from blasters to datapads. However, it does have a power adaptor that it allows it be plugged into galactic standard power grids, off grid generators, or even solar energy panels.
- Ruggerized: Mediflux has a durable agrinium case with ceraglass-covered screens, which makes it externally quite durable in rough and tumble environments often found in the field. The electronics inside use hardened circuits, making it less likely to malfunction from either natural phenomena or damage from ion or EMP weapons.
- Cornucopia: Mediflux can provide all of the necessary metabolic sustenance to maintain most organic's ability to survive and can correct such deficiencies quickly.
- Antidote: Mediflux's larger size allows it to carry a more extensive base of bacteria, viruses, and some common poisons - allowing it to better diagnose and treat such maladies.
WEAKNESSES
- Bulky: Mediflux is noticeably bulkier than the synthe-nutrient replicator that came before it by several magnitudes, which makes it less convenient for individual carry.
- Species Diagnostic-limited: Mediflux's memory banks only holds enough information to treat about six different species at a time. While different species can be added or removed fairly easily, there the real possibility that it might not be suitably programmed to treat some patients it might encounter, especially if they are more rare.
Bacta may be a miracle medicine that can treat even the most grievous of traumatic injuries, but it does little to deal with chemical imbalances that can be fatal to an organic, whether its malnutrition or poisoning. While a number of medical devices have been able to accomplish some of these tasks individually, the MediFlux is designed to accomplish all of these tasks in a single, almost comprehensive, highly portable package - ideal for soldiers, scouts, and those who frequently find themselves far away from galactic standard medical care. To accomplish this, Mediflux uses a combination of enzymes and miniaturized tractor beam projectors to tear apart molecular feedstock before recombining elements and molecules to create the needed nutrient or antidote. The product can then be drank, eaten, injected, or pumped intravenously into the patient.
