Keepin Corellia Weird
And no, i'm not talking to you about how to utilize a super duper special form of lightsaber combat you can toss on your bio and strut with. I have, OOCly, studied medieval combat for close to 12+ years now. Resume includes Italian and German Longsword, minimal rapier training (I know enough to not make a fool of myself), I.33 sword & Buckler, general stage fighting and armored combat drills (more common sense grounded in extrapolation based off the above) and a smattering of grounding in Norse(via Hurstwic) and minimal Japanese kenjutsu. I also have about 7 years learning about *how* the sword are made, from their physics and construction to how they should perform for each type.
This expertise was converted to Star Wars, and on the old site, Ijaat traveled to *every* planet in the galaxy he could find with a storied 'fencing' background (fencing means more than foils, it actually describes more swordplay in general). Adumar, Atrisia, etc.. etc.. He doesn't really talk about it, but for about 17 years he wandered about the galaxy simultaneously training with swordsmiths and fencers, learning what he could from those cultures. And now, he's feeling his age and the desire to pass it on to you whipper snappers.
Now, that said, I'd like to hold a class or two, with either of my soldiery types(Julius or Ijaat), pending interest it could be both. A lot of writers like to write combat, especially with swords, but I see a lot of room for potential and growth in the arena of melee combat. Too many of you watch too many episodes of Vikings and such
In all honesty, I think it would be fun to share with other writers things like the correct terminology for sword parts (yes, they all have proper names!), a few basic notes on footing, strikes, guard, movement, etc... And my characters personal thoughts and ideals on sword/lightsaber combat. Some of you Jedi types could benefit from a class in armored combat since it is a bit different than fighting in your bathrobe as well
With Ijaat, if there is more interest, I can also do a thread from the point expounding on him pegging people for Special Forces/Operations training, and do some Commando lessons. Julius doesn't have the breadth of lightsaber forms and types I want him to yet, but it might be fun for him to do an introduction to Makashi, along with things like combat philosophy (how does a Jedi reconcile war against things like the Jedi Code, in his opinion?) and such things.
If either of these interest you, hit me up in a PM and we'll go from there. And if you really want fun/boring, Ijaat might be willing to teach you how to forge things (as long as it aint beskar, that is a mando only thing). But that will be a long process...
See you on the mats, folks.
