Member feedback: New Member Guide

Staff is steadily working to continue making the access to our rules, guides, and resources as easy as possible for our members. We realize that upon first glance, SWRP can be very intimidating.

We have a [GUIDE] Getting Started & Rules set up in the Welcome, New Members! Forum, however, it is quite out of date. We are working to update it.

However, before we begin, we would like to ask the community on what would you have liked to see in a New Member guide? What would have made it easier for you to follow where our rules, resources, and how to plug in a little bit easier?

Please toss in your thoughts and your suggestions, every little bit counts as this will be taken into consideration on how to construct and implement our New Member Guide.

There is a ton of great, like really great user made guides for all kind of things, from character creation (short and in detail), fairness and drama free roleplaying, the ones of [member="Tirdarius"] and [member="Darth Ignus"] are the first to pop into my mind but there a certainly a lot more. My advise would be to either directly refer to those guides, or make a distillate of their core points into one shorter, less detailed but easier to comprehend guide with the important rules of chaos webbed into. No need to make more work than needed, all that is required is already there, someone just has to put it all together. At least that would be my take on this.

maybe things like how creds work in rp. and a explanation of how to bounty? first things i can think of.

maybe a bullet point to do list of what needs to be done for a successful character as a preface before the rules and links and all the goodies.

I agree with McNutty, you should do a bit more of an explanation on credits and maybe talk a bit more about corporations and bounty hunting

I personally like the Quick Start Guide myself. A simple step-by-step on how to create a character account, profile, LFG, and then joining a thread. Very easy stuff.

Naturally, then you can throw as much information you want at them. Including perhaps even the very basics such as: What is PbP RP, What does OOC mean, What is Post Order, How do I change my Avatar, etc.

Advanced Topics such as The Factory, How To Corporate Enterprise, Managing my Marketplace Shop, or How To Build And Administrate A Faction should probably their own guide. And, as such, just need a link to the Tutorials & Guides Section.

The metric system...aside from being officially used in all but 3 countries...is the system used in the Star Wars universe, so that is what we use here.

[member="Cira"] Personally I would have liked to see links to all the other guides on how to do things, such as how to use the Factory, how Factions/Galaxy Map works, how the Marketplace works, and other etiquette and such.

Basically just links to every guide to help new players be well-informed, as to not be confused and half to go and find information.
