To Protect and Serve

High between Coruscants massive skyscrapers, in one of the many airspeeder lanes, a howling engine roar and wailing sirens broke the usual buzzing sound of the traffic. The blue eyes of police sergeant Jessica Bowers at the wheel flickered between the airspeeder they were chasing and the traffic they passed on their right side as well as the oncoming traffic on the left. Something made this one think that he would lost the police airspeeder in the dense traffic that still occupied the lane, this midnight. The bright red rear lights of the civilian airspeeders, from luxury leisure vehicles to yellow cabs which drivers tried to make a credit or two, passed them like one continous red streak. The oncoming traffic were separated by a gap wide enough to allow for a high speed pursuit. Their main concern being to evade hovering roadsigns and the occasional traffic control droid.
Suddenly, the fleeing airspeeder made a risky left turn right through the oncoming traffic, and by shear luck coming out on the other side. What did this scum hide to make him seem like he had a death wish? They had seconds to react if they wanted to stick with him. Mathis grabbed onto the handle above the passenger door, fully knowing what was coming. Jessica pulled the wheel as far back as she could, taking the speeder for a steep but short climb before turning left and passing above the traffic. Like shot out of a turbo laser, the two vehicles were now in a dive towards a busy recreational district. Mathis got on the radio and called in the pursuit, a male voice on the other side answered and replied that more units were on the way but that it could take some time.
A quick glance on the glowing on-board computer screens and Jessica let a hand off the wheel to ready the ion blaster in the front. Time was tight now before they reached an all too crowded area with the risk of civilian casualities. However, he must have seen them as the fleeing speeder begun swaying from side to side, trying to disrupt their aim. Punching the fire button on the wheel twice, Jessica tried the luck but the shots went by and faded out in front of him as they lost their energy. The pursuit continued in between two skyscrapers and they slowed their pace a bit. Too late now. Feth!
A second of inattention and the runner hit a large balcony that were sticking out and above the street below, forcing the speeder into a violent spin. The sirens and the loud sound of the hit luckily made people below them disperse. There were nothing they could do now but watch the runner fall to the ground. It went down and crashed backwards, whirling up smoke and sparks when the metal hit the ground and slid on it with a screeching noise. They sat down a moment later and lit up the crash site with the searchlight, the blue and red lights dancing on the walls. The searchlight catched a masked dark figure exiting the trashed speeder and making a run for it.
They swung up the doors of the police speeder and jumped out. Jessica took the lead and bolted after the figure while Mathis updated dispatch of their position and situation on the run. This midnight runner were not gonna spend the night outside bars!
