Accessibility: The moon of Vylmira 2 is a well known celestial body, one of the 4 moons that hung in the heavens around the planet since times past...since sentient life arrived, to be honest. In the past explorers landed on the moon, exploring and surveying the moon as a potential resource. That was it for years until John Locke approached the Regent of Vlymira with a proposal. He wanted to build a base on the moon, a research facility spanning the entire moon. Today, with the facility completed the Moon has been closed away from the general public or any unauthorized personnel. Even within the company, access to the facility is very tightly regulated to John Locke and those he personally authorises. The moon is defended by a set of powerful planetary shields as well as droid fighters stored on the surface of the moon. On the ground, security is provided by droid units from Locke and Key’s inventory.
Description: The entire surface of the moon has been built over, covering the moon in a matt metal surface. No-one outside of John Locke knows exactly how deep into the moon the facility is built. What is visible to many people are the vast cooling towers which cover the surface of the moon, buildings dotted around the surface. Much of the facility is open to the vacuum of space, using space to act as a cooling agent for the vast processing power contained within the facility. The Facility itself was built and is maintained by a legion of droids, both Archimedes and Aristaeus Droids. These droids are produced by the foundries, which are also responsible for the creation of new instruments and technologies needed for the research, as well as the constant rebuilding and renovation of the facility. There is a constant tearing down and rebuilding of the facility as new technology and requirements come to light.
Minerva Research Facility
Hangars: The facility contains several hangars spread out across the surface of the moon. The majority of these contain droid vessels. Fighters for the defence of the facility and transports used to obtain the resources the moon cannot produce and the transfer of prototypes and other products to other Locke and Key facilities.
Living Quarters: The number of organic researchers at the facility is always low, instead the facility is primarily a hub for Locke and Key to carry out AI and other research, as well as acting as a data hub for the company. Almost all aspects of the base are automated, from the constant renovations to the building and testing of prototypes and actual research carried out. Organic sentients are only transported to the base when their specific skills are needed and only remain until the project is completed.
Recreational Areas: Locke and Key Mechanics views the facility as a hardship post, while the planet of Vlymira is close by, those working at the facility rarely get a chance to visit it. Instead, the facility possesses a small but luxurious set of living and recreational areas for people to spend their time as needed. This includes a games room, a theatre, a gym and a well appointed communal area for eating and drinking.
Communications Hubs: In order to provide support to Locke and Key facilities and ships all over the galaxy the Minerva research facility contains several communications hubs scattered across its surface containing both holonet communications as well as quantum entanglement communications links to key facilities and the Harmonia System.
Foundries: The facility possesses numerous molecular furnaces spread across the surface which provides the facility with a high degree of self-sufficiency. These foundries are responsible for the creation of much of the material, tools, facilities and materials used by the facility. As new research came in, needing new technology and facilities the foundries were used to break down the old and build the new. More importantly, though, the majority of the surface of the planet was not made of the research facilities but processing and storage of data, and like all computers, they need to be constantly upgraded and replaced as new technology is developed, a never-ending struggle to remain relevant.
Processing Cores: Covered in a particle shield the vast majority of the facility consists of a vast computer that is open to space for cooling. The facility is meant to be a hub for the development of AI, in particular, an AI for Locke and Key mechanic in particular, as well as providing computational and AT support to all other facilities leading to its need for massive computational power.
Research Labs: Some of Locke and Key’s most important and off the books research is carried out at the facility, and as such it is home to a wide variety of research labs. Some of these are located securely deep within the moon, while others are located on the surface of the facility, able to be easily contained or ejected into space where the facilities tractor beams and turbolasers are more than capable of dealing with any situations before they get out of control.

As the war raging across the galaxy ramped up and the need for new and innovative weapons started to increase John Locke realised he’d need a secure research facility located somewhere in the galaxy where he could conduct the experiments he needed to keep pushing the edge. In a typical fashion of the man John realised he had an opportunity to do more than just create a research facility, but to create an opportunity to push his company and his own assets one step further. To create a massive computational facility to support the rest of his enterprises...and to potentially help create a one of a kind AI.
The first step was approaching his friend, [member="Voph"], to seek permission to use one of Vylmirra’s moons. Given John’s increasing ties with the Confederacy, his friendship with Voph and the need to spread his facilities across the galaxy Vylmirra was a perfect location for the facility. Once permission was obtained a molecular furnace, a set of Aristaeus Drones programmed with plans only John knew and they were left to work. As more resources were mined from the moon the builders multiplied spreading across the moon as the facility grew and expanded.
Upon completion the facility was put to use, providing support to Locke and Key facilities across the galaxy as needed. It also became the site of the research John wanted to keep under his belt until he was forced to reveal it, or to maybe never be revealed.
