While none could deny that the Kom’rk Fighter was a tried and time-honoured design that lasted throughout the ages - the venerable spaceframe didn’t wholly comply with the methodology of the Death Watch and their Crusade. While it was more than capable of engaging enemy targets and deploying troops into battle - there was another functionality that the spacecraft sorely missed. The Kom’rk was incapable of ferrying vehicles into battle, which sorely restricted the Mandalorian’s ability to establish footholds planetside, and battle their countless foes on equal terms. Although the Kom’rk allowed for these Ancient Warriors to employ adaptable tactics and strategies to defeat their enemies, the significant lack of additional firepower merely postponed their inevitable demise.
Thus, as the Warsmiths of the Death Watch began restoring their depleted armoury, their minds collectively turned towards replacing the Kom’rk with something more fitting of their martial prowess. And so, the first iteration of the Talon Dropships was born. It was a spaceframe that combined dozens of lessons and technologies acquired throughout the ages. But, as they neared completion on their prototype - there was much to be desired. For it seemed that the Warsmiths had forgotten some capabilities that were featured within the Kom’rk, making that ancient transport better than the first iteration of their newest Dropship. So, not wanting to be outdone by the legacy of their ancestors, these Warsmiths took the entirety of their design and reforged it anew.
They began with the interior of the spacecraft. Not because there was anything inherently wrong with their design’s internalized systems, but due to the fact they could’ve done better in streamlining and micronizing the various systems. With the interior of the craft altered, this new iteration of the Talon Dropship would allow for a greater number of Crusader-Kin to dwell within its armoured husk. In addition to that, the internal systems would wholly support the troops that were housed within - either through a micronized, but comprehensive medical suite and the integrated medical droid; or through the comprehensive micronized foundry that would be capable of producing arms, munitions and armour - from previously uploaded templates - to replace whatever was lost in the field.
These integrated systems would not only see to the sustainability of the Crusader’s combat operations whenever they were deployed but would also allow for their relative comfort between conflicts as well.

When it came to the external functions of the Dropship, that’s where the true advancements showcased themselves to the Galaxy at large. Putting aside the various weapons arrays, countermeasures, and myriad defensive systems, the Mark II version of the Dropship was outfitted with an advanced variant of the Force cylinder technology. While wholly built around being the most stable version of intra-ship travel, this advanced technology - alongside several additional items that were based around stabilization and weight dispersion - would allow for the Talon Dropship to ferry Vehicles and even prefabricated defences or items into battle. It was a process that would operate around the generation of a force field that would wholly envelop their chosen target.
But, such functionality came at a steep cost. For the Dropship’s speed and maneuverability would be marginally impacted by the additional weight and the retraction of the underslung engine pod. Not only would they become slower than their unburdened compatriots, but through the creation of this force field - it would expose their vehicles or the prefabricated emplacements to enemy fire coming up from the planet’s surface. However, this wasn’t much of a concern to the Warsmiths - as they believed that saturation bombardments and strafing runs that were common enough tactics would be enough to soften up any expected opposition; leaving the Dropships free and clear to deposit their ferried charges.
In addition to the underslung carrying capabilities of the Mark II - there was another functionality that drew inspiration from the Kom’rk. It was the retractable deck plating, which then lowered the central crash couches - allowing for the Crusaders contained within to deploy in an unconventional manner. Naturally, this would be entirely dependent on those Crusaders being equipped with Jetpacks of Grav-Chutes, as a fall from standard deployment vectors would likely pulverize flesh and bone as soon as they make contact with the ground. Nevertheless, as one can imagine, this functionality only works when the Dropship isn’t ferrying Vehicles or Emplacements into battle - as it would heavily interfere with the entirety of the deployment process.
And so, with such technologies woven into the Dropship’s design, the Mark II Talon would become the undisputed master of the battlefield and wholly expand the Death Watch’s mission profile.
