Intent: To create an updated troop transport for the CIS Greater Droid Army
Development Thread: N/A
Manufacturer: Geonosian Industries
Model: MTAT-I (Mutli-Troop Assault Transport model I)
Affiliation: CIS
Modularity: no
Production: Mass-produced
Material: Reinforced Durasteel
Description:
The MTAT-I is an attempt to adapt old designs for modern use. The design incorporates a new droid rack system that places the droid passengers in the middle of the vehicle on 6 different racks distributed between 3 different holding bays. Each rack is capable of hold 20 infantry droids each (120 droids total, or one company) or 5 droidika style combatants on each (30 droidikas). The droids are protected, while in transit, by thick layers of reinforced durasteel that covers the outside of the vehicle. Upon deployment 3 racks are extended on each side of the vehicle and the droids are released from said racks.
The MTAT-I has 4 ruplsorlift power supplies on the outside of the vehicle and also has a Medium duel-laser cannon on the top half of its hull. While the transport is heavily armored to protect its passengers, its armament is light and it does not move at a particularly fast pace. However, it does operate on a droid brain, much like the ABT-36. This allows the vehicle to take massive damage and remain operational, but its cargo may not be so lucky.
As with many other repulsorlift vehicles, the MTAT-I is highly vulnerable to ruplsorlift damage. It is also highly vulnerable to internal damage; however, the only way to access internal workings is through the droid rack holding bays. One of the most useful features of this vehicle is its ability to hold various supplies and equipment (portable communications arrays, extra ammunition, sensor receivers etc), all of which are essential for maintaining an FOB. In the event that a temporary base needs to be constructed, the MTAT can have its droid racks and holding bay doors detached so that the interior can be used as barracks, supply stations, command post etc.
