Jack Sheltrak
Senator of Zeltros, Former Supreme Chancellor
Jack Harkness stepped forward towards the podium of the Supreme Chancellor’s chair within the halls of the Great Rotunda. As always, the chair sat in the very center of the Hall, with hundreds of represented planets surrounding him. Harkness hung his head, stepping forward under the bright lights of various holonet orbs orbiting overhead.
“Tonight, more than two years after a man and two Jedi sought to resurrect an ancient tradition from the ashes, the task of perfecting our grand union moves forward.”
The man humbly looked up towards the nearest camera, and then into the distance to face the mass of Senators watching.
“It moves forward because of you. It moves forward because you have reaffirmed the spirit that has triumphed over war and depression, the spirit that has lifted this nation from the depths of despair to the great heights of hope. The belief that while each of will pursue our own individual dreams, we are a Galactic Union and we will rise or fall together as one nation and as one people.”
He shook his fist in the air, the air of humility no longer present upon the newly elected Supreme Chancellor’s face. Instead it was replaced by an expression of determination, by one of strength.
“Tonight in this election you, Senate Members of the Galactic Republic, reminded us that while our road has been hard, reminded us that while our journey has been long, we have picked ourselves up, we have fought our way back, and we know in our hearts that for the Galactic Republic the best is yet to come.”
Chancellor Harkness paused.
“I want to thank every Senator who participated in this election…you will not be forgotten after this hard-fought campaign.”
He turned to a camera.
“I want to thank and congratulate Yusan Fenn on his victory, the best Vice Chancellor a guy could ask for.”
He turned to another.
“I also wish to thank and congratulate Selena Halcyon, newly elected Grandmaster of the Jedi Order, for her support and friendship. Working with you thus far has been invigorating, and I hope we will work together to strengthen the existing bond between the Republic and the Jedi Order.”
He turned back to the multitude of Senators watching.
“And finally, I thank all of you. Without you, without all of you, this would not have been possible. You have lifted me to new levels of invigoration and motivation to both maintain and defend this grand nation.”
He sighed.
“But sadly, our road is not over yet.”
A fire seemed to flash in his eyes.
“Only weeks ago, here, in this very chamber, we faced the threat of violence. Death and destruction wrought upon our very capital by rogue members of the Sith Empire. Very little is known of this attack, but this much is – these individuals fully support and serve the Emperor of the Sith Empire. An Empire that is at this very moment embroiled in war with our allies in the east, an Empire that is known to have committed genocide on entire nations of innocent people, and an Empire that is known to have extinguished entire planets. An Empire that has shown open aggression towards our very nation on multiple accounts without cause. An Empire that has murdered, in cold blood, the first Grandmaster of the newly established Jedi Order.”
“Led by an Emperor who just days ago brazenly declared his nomination for this very position. Right there.”
The Supreme Chancellor pointed to the empty Sith seat in the Senate. He turned to the Senators to his right.
He turned to his left.
“I ask you now,”
He turned to his right.
“All of you,”
He faced forward, shaking his fist in the air, his eyes bright with righteous fury.
“Stand with me.”
The Supreme Chancellor faced a camera.
“And to the Sith Emperor – you will no longer be tolerated.”
Harkness let the tense atmosphere subside before continuing.
“As my first act as Supreme Chancellor, I issue the call for a Grand Convocation in three days here in the Senate Chamber.”
“Thank you!”
He waved to the masses, leaving the chair and heading towards his chambers.
