My Kind of Drama

MINERVA RESEARCH FACILITY
Luna V stood in the research lab, a remote in her slender hand. Her eyes, open and unblinking, were focused on the holo-screen across the room. Normally configured to display data and research, the screen would be used to project something very different tonight.

[member="John Locke"] was due to arrive soon. And it was good timing, for their favorite Seoulian Drama was premiering tonight. It was altogether odd for one of these shows to run for a second season, but “Droids Over Flowers” had broken the mold.

This holo-vision sensation was something of a curiosity to Luna—an actual droid.

During the season finale, the female protagonist had revealed that she was not human, like her love interest had believed... but a droid. It had been a 'cliffhanger' ending, as Luna understood it. Would her current romantic interest, Shin–handsome, but mean spirited—accept her for what she is? Or would she run to Jun–kind, but second to Shin—the third component to their love triangle?

The concept of the love triangle was also somewhat puzzling to Luna, but the drama that ensued was highly amusing. As Luna spent quite a lot of time in various labs, watching shows like this was a valuable way to glean insights into human behavior... even if it was not entirely accurate. As she had learned, emotional responses were often over-exaggerated on these shows for optimum entertainment factor.

But there was another purpose to this visit.

Luna had devised a new sub-routine that would allow her to imitate human emotional responses more accurately. She had drawn quite a lot from her drama shows, cataloging a wealth of appropriate character responses for her to use. This would give her a more subtle air, one that would allow her to blend in even better. She needed John to look at the programming and assist her with this update to her system.

The holo-display was ready. Now, Luna turned her attention to the door, patiently awaiting her friend's arrival.

There were a few times when John was profoundly glad for his prosthetic limbs, when he had to do prescision work on a minature set of electronics the lack of any tremors and twitching helped tremendously. When he had to shift boxs of supplies, or a crate containing a new toy it helped to have the enhanced strength that came with the cybernetics. Or there were those situations like this when he was carrying something hot and he couldn't feel it, metal for working, some kind of experiment, or times like this when he was carry bowls of fresh popcorn. Thank god for cybernetics.

He didn't actually know when this tradition had started, the Seoulian dramas that he'd come to share with Luna. It had started off small, just a single show to pass the time and that had slowly evolved into a tradition. To be honest it was a much needed break for the cyborg, he spent all day rushing backwards and forwards from one fire and meeting to another. Dealing with a sale to coruscant, then a programming error at a factory on Fenris, the sheer number of issues that came flying around each day were overwhelming.

This hour then, stolen away from the rest of the galaxy, this was an island of calm during which he could relax and not be the executive, the brilliant engineer. This was one of the precious few moments in the day when John could simply be himself. Small wonder that he looked forward to it so much. Popcorn balanced in one hand the dark-haired man pressed desperately at the door panel, hearing it swish open as he staggered into the room.

"You wouldn't believe the number of looks I got walking aorund with the popcorn. You'd think people have never seen a guy getting a snack."

Luna's eyes opened wide as the door slid open to reveal the form of [member="John Locke"].

A peculiar sight,” she noted aloud in response. “But a welcome one.”

A smile appeared on the HRD's face and she approached the cyborg man to assist, her hands held open and outstretched to accept one bowl. The aroma of the popped corn was appealing, her senses already analyzing the components—especially noting the butter and hints of salt. Even without a single taste, Luna V knew that John's ratio of the two was near perfect.

The droid pressed a button on the remote; the stream came on to display a steady run of commercials. And so, she put it on mute until the show started to allow a bit of conversation. Judging by her own chronometer, they had exactly ten minutes until showtime. “I have been anticipating the start of this season.” Luna said with a curt nod. “How do you think the... boys will react to the droid's deception?”

She paused, her expression turning thoughtful. “Though, she did not intentionally mislead them.”

Luna blinked, looking at John for his take on the show's previous season finale. For her own part, she had even taken to reading the numerous and widely varied responses on holo-forums... information that she had decided to keep to herself.
