Braze was inspecting his new quarters in the temple buildings that had been under construction for the better part of the past year. He was surprised at how quickly they had been built by interested parties, thanks to the backing of a handful of wealthy philanthropists.

The view outside the large sliding doors that led onto the balcony was breathtaking. It overlooked the valleys and mountains of the lush Veridian landscape.

This seemed like a more stable and relatively secret location. Supposedly, school classes would be conducted here soon, offering Jedi of all walks an opportunity to further their craft and education, and allowing research and medical restoration to be at the forefront of activities conducted here.

He'd picked out some fun decorative bedding with stars and constellation patterns all across it. He'd brought along several sections of black lights and an assortment of glow-in-the-dark stars he wanted to stick around the room. He really wanted to make a nice, peaceful place where he could relax and be free to just be himself and feel secure—something that he'd mostly lost on Lothal when the Empire took it over. He had been able to gather a few supplies from his treehouse and brought them along as mementos.

The black lights were all nicely hung, and his bedding was neatly made. This room was bigger than he remembered his space at Coruscant to be, and he was uncertain of what to put where. Honestly, this felt more akin to a small house with the large common rooms. He set the box of glow-in-the-dark stars and sticker sheets of other stars on his bed, pondering just where to put them.

This temple was really something else.

Perhaps a bit too much, really. Poor Loomi was overstimulated by how much was going on in the newly constructed Temple, finding it almost like how she was when she got to Coruscant for the first time. That day all over again was a little much for her, so she did the only thing that she could think of: Find friends.

Braze, in fact. That was really who she wanted to go talk to. Even more now than ever, given their previous conversation about how they felt about one another, Loomi found Braze to be the most comforting presence in her life. So if she was overstimulated, as she was now, that was sure to be the first person she went to. The Godoan's wings flitted anxiously as she navigated the halls of the new temple, trying her best to not get lost before coming upon the room of the young Echani. After taking a moment to adjust herself and shake off the stress she knocked on the door.

"Braze? May I come in?"

Braze blinked and moved to open the door. "Yes, you may," he said lightly, offering her a soft smile before stepping aside. He could sense some kind of nervous energy emanating from Loomi. Hoping to ease her discomfort, he asked, "How are you holding up in this new place?"

He decided to distract her with the task he had, which he honestly felt rather comforted by. "What do you think?" he asked gesturing to his bedding. The majority of his room was still fairly barren aside from a few boxes with clothing he'd yet to put away in the closet.

He moved to the box and selected some plastic stars, holding them up. "Would you like to help me place these stars?" Braze asked.

As Braze opened the door Loomi all but fell into him, hugging the young Echani and letting out an exasperated sigh. She rested her chin on his shoulder as her legs went ever-so-slightly limp.

"Golly, I'm not holding up at all," she sighed. "This place is making my head all loopy..."

Her eyes did light up as Braze brought attention to his room, to which her good eye lit up. It was almost like all of her overwhelmed feelings were gone in an instant. The Godoan slipped away from the Echani padawan and inside to examine the lights and decorative bedding, the smile returning to her face.

"This is awesome!" Loomi chirped. "I'd love to help place the stars, please!"

It would help take her mind off of feeling like a headless porg running around in a maze.

Braze gently petted the top of her head and held her upright, offering what little affection he could to try and soothe her. "I'm sorry you're not doing too well... is it just too big for you?" Braze asked, uncertain about what in this place might make her feel that way. He handed her a roll of double-sided sticky tape and a handful of stars.

"If you want to rest your legs a bit, you can sit on the bed and I can help you take off the prosthetics... that's how you like to rest, right?" he asked, recalling the amusing way they had met. It must not be fun having to lug around all that weight... he thought her prosthetics were probably heavier than real legs would be for her.

Braze used the Force to effortlessly peel the tape and stick it to a star before levitating it up and placing it near the top of the wall where it met the ceiling. "It might take a while to place all the stars," he stated, knowing he had a plethora of them. He wanted to completely cover the walls and ceiling with the stars, after all.

"I'm sorry you're not doing too well... is it just too big for you?"

"Maybe," she sighed.

As she observed the star stickers, Braze asked something else that made her tilt her head. Take her legs off? Loomi crossed her arms as she considered this, her wings fluttering as she pondered.

"Am I supposed to take them off when I rest?" Loomi asked. "What if I get thirsty at night?"

Then she'd have trouble getting up to go get water. It seemed like it would be rather inconvenient.

Her eyes drifted back to the stickers, her eye lighting up as an idea came to her head. She began to weave a thread between them, a thin and radiant string moving through the stickers like they were water. They began to drift into the air, strung out almost like a garland as they began to circle around the two of them. A giddy laugh escaped Loomi's lips.

"There," she nodded, content with herself. "That should make peeling the thingies off faster."

"Am I supposed to take them off when I rest?" Loomi asked. "What if I get thirsty at night?"
"I don't know..." Braze admitted with a slightly abashed tone. He figured it probably felt nice to take them off, but he wasn't sure. He hated wearing his arm brace, but maybe legs or just a real prosthetic were very different. He watched what Loomi was doing with the stars and smiled, moving to the other side of the room. "Very clever~" He praised her with a coy smile. He settled down, sitting near the foot of his bed as he fished out some more stars.

"When I was very little... I had a bedroom filled with stars all across the ceiling. My father put them there because I was afraid of the dark... I remember missing them in the Creche when I was spending my earliest days at the temple," Braze offered. "I hated the dark so much."

"I hated the dark so much."

"So... this is nostalgic then?" Loomi inquired. "I think it's really nice."

She couldn't help but sigh a little.

"I don't remember if I was afraid of the dark," she noted. "It's hard to recall if I was because I was afraid of a lot of things... I-it's all really fuzzy in my head." Her expression did light up, however. "I guess that means you and all of my friends are my ceiling stars."

Loomi couldn't help but smile with some pride. The people she loved really had helped her fend off all of the things she was afraid of, slowly helping her overcome these fears. Maybe one day she'd look back on the people in her life with the same nostalgia that Braze did with his stickers. That made her feel warm and fuzzy on the inside.

Slowly Loomi began to peel off the backs of the stars, lifting them all up to the ceiling at once.

"I like the stars a lot," the Godoan decided.

Braze smiled at her and nodded gently. "Yeah, nostalgic," he said, feeling his heart melt at what Loomi had just shared. "That's a really sweet way of looking at it." He marveled at the stars she was placing, moving more slowly himself. Picking them up one at a time, he affixed them to the ceiling and walls, gently levitating them and sticking them in place.

"I remember they used to glow until I'd fall asleep,"
he reminisced. "I didn't like being at the temple on Coruscant... I cried myself to sleep a lot when I was little because of how scared I was. Some of the others my age used to make fun of me for it. Then one day, I decided I wasn't going to be laughed at anymore," he explained, though thinking back on it, it really did feel like a weird kind of dream. "I had gotten in trouble for punching one of the other hopefuls," Braze admitted lightly.

"After that, one of the creche masters wanted to talk to me. And do you know what they said when I explained why I did what I did?"

He paused for a moment, recalling the memory vividly. "The master looked at me and said, 'Braze, it's okay to feel afraid. Fear is a natural emotion, but it's important to understand it and not let it control you. Hurting others won't make your fear go away, and it won't stop them from teasing you. Instead, confront your fears and find peace within yourself.'"

Braze sighed softly. " He said even the brightest stars need the night sky to shine. Fear is just a feeling that tells us we're about to learn something new. Whenever you feel scared, remember that you're not alone—I am here with you, just like the stars in the sky are always there even when we can't see them.'"

Braze trailed, "They told me, 'Instead of pushing the darkness away , try welcoming it; HE told me to 'Close your eyes and imagine all the stars just waiting to light up your sky'."

Braze chuckled softly. "After that, I started to feel better about the dark. The master helped me see that it's okay to have fears, and that sometimes, facing them can lead to the most beautiful discoveries."

Braze smiled and flopped back on to thebedlooking up at the stars on the cieling that'd been placed so far slowly but surely adding to teh besspeckled cieling and walls. "Ever since then, the dark hasn't seemed so scary. They had taught me that acknowledging my fear was the first step toward overcoming it... "

He looked over at Loomi, a gentle smile on his face. "So tell me... what are you affraid of?"

"So tell me... what are you affraid of?"

"Me? Well..."

Loomi sat down on the edge of Braze's bed next to him, thinking on it for a moment. Her antennae curled back as she thought back to the things from her nightmares.

"I don't think I'm afraid of the things I have bad dreams about," she admitted. "More what they represent. I'm gonna get hurt, and bad people are going to say awful things. The... the thing that scares me the most is waking up one day and finding out that all of this was a dream. Like somehow the best part of my life... never really happened. It was all in my head."

The padawan shuddered for a moment, steadying her breath.

"I... I know that's irrational..." Loomi muttered. "I just can't get the scenario out of my head."

Loomi didn't react to the pinch at first. Her nerves were not as reliable after some considerable damage, so her overall feeling was reduced. She did feel it, but it was more a light press than anything else. The Godoan seemed to stare at Braze with a blank expression for a moment as she tried to process what it was he was doing.

"What... is this for?" she asked.

Braze to tilted his head at that and eyed her over briefly before reaching out to the good side if her face and pinching her skin in her cheek, seemingly intentionally trying to cause minor pain.
"Do you feel that ?"

"Do you feel that ?"

Loomi pouted a little as Braze pinched her cheek.

"Yeah," she confirmed. "S-sorry, I don't think my feeling is as good as it's supposed to be."

He seemed upset. Clearly he had been expecting a much greater reaction out of her. Her cheek being so close to her damaged eye meant it felt significantly less than her arm did, making the pinch register slightly less than the first one.

But she did still feel it.

"Huh... That's odd. I wonder why ... " He trailed uncertain why she couldn't really feel anything where his un marred skin was. Seemed really weird to him.

"Here let's try this. " He went to pick up a book he'd gotten from Ko Vuto Ko Vuto , an Atrisian graphic novel. He opened it up and showed it to her. " Can you read the words on this page?"

He flipped the book to a random page and began to describe it. The page showed two teenage martial artists in the middle of a heated battle. In the top panel, the protagonist launched a powerful kick towards his opponent, who blocked it with a determined expression. Motion lines emphasized the speed of the attack, and a bold "BAM!" highlighted the impact. The background depicted a traditional dojo with wooden beams and banners fluttering. In the next panels, the fighters exchanged quick punches, each movement clearly illustrated with dynamic angles and shading. Dialogue bubbles captured their fierce rivalry, with phrases like "You can't beat me!" and "I'll never give up!" The final panel showed the protagonist landing gracefully, eyes focused and ready for the next move. The artwork was detailed, conveying both the intensity of the fight and the characters' emotions.

"You can't beat me!" and "I'll never give up!"

"Yeah.."

Loomi studied the words carefully as she observed the picture book that Braze had opened. Was it a picture book? It seemed to be a book with pictures. No, that wasn't important. She needed to focus on the words. They seemed... determined. Expressive. She didn't know what they were fighting about, but Loomi could get the idea that there was something greater trying to be expressed on the page about continuing despite struggle.

Or maybe she was thinking about it too hard.

"I'm still confused..." Loomi admitted. "Should... I fight something? I-it seems like it would be hard to fight a nightmare, it... isn't real."

Let alone irrational. Loomi knew that's what her fear was. Irrational.

Even so, it lingered.

"Well, if you can open a book and read the words on the page, you know you're not dreaming. In dreams, when you try to find something to read, you'll often find that the words shift, blur, or don't make sense. This happens because the brain's language centers are less active while dreaming, making it difficult to process written text clearly." Braze said before closing the book and offering it to her. " You could keep something small on you and read it over to make sure you're not dreaming... maybe something you put in your locket?" Braze suggested.

"Yeah... yeah, I guess that makes sense," Loomi nodded, her smile returning. "I can do that. R-right. If I can read then it's real..."

Loomi retrieved the locket she had been gifted by Braze, beginning to mist weave within it on a very small scale. Once she was satisfied with her work she turned the locket to Braze so that he could see. A large, simple word was written on the locket, the lettering blocky and rather child-like. It was almost as though it had come out of a child's drawing. The word present was a simple five letters long.

'BRAZE.'

The Z was backwards.

"Oh... my name?" Braze asked, raising a brow with a playful grin. "It's kinda cute, actually," he mused, letting his gaze linger as if savoring the thought. "Maybe I'll change my signature to something like that," he added with a smirk. Then, with a teasing smile, he continued, "Now you can look at your locket whenever you're feeling off, hm?"

Braze flopped back onto the bed, patting the pillow beside him. "Ready to see how they glow in the dark?"

"It's kinda cute, actually,"

Loomi couldn't help but beam proudly at this. She was quite happy with herself, so the praise from Braze only added to her positivity. The locket would be the perfect thing to remind her that everything she cared about was still here. Not a dream. When Braze mentioned seeing the stars glow in the dark Loomi gave an enthusiastic nod.

"Yeah," she chirped. "Let's see'em!"
