Highly-acute full-spectrum sensor suite allows amazing sensory capabilities, far beyond the scope and scale of most conventional droids. Considered long-range by droid standards, the Nabu offers tremendous sensing and scanning capabilities.
STRENGTHS:
- Ever-Vigilant - Wide array of sensors and scanners can provide significant levels of situational awareness and sensory acuity beyond the scope of most conventional droids, making them extraordinarily aware of their surroundings and quite difficult to catch them off-guard or ‘fool them’ even using many types of stealth technology.
- No Simple Task - Powerful system collects a tremendously broad range of sensory information, meaning that while some methods of sensor inhibition may be effective against it, it is rare that enemies may be able to comprehensively defeat, block, or prevent the Nabu’s full range of sensors and scanners when engaged at its most optimal functioning. This means countermeasures that are generally employed to overcome most droids’ sensory abilities may not be sufficient against droids using the Nabu suite, thus requiring much more extensive methods to overcome them effectively.
- Elitist - Due to the sheer volume of data received by the Nadu, droids using this component must possess significant computing power and intellect to organize, filter, and analyze this information proficiently making it incompatible with all but the most intelligent droid models and designs. Simply put, this component cannot be used in your ‘run-the-mill-droid’.
- Power-Hungry - To operate this component, droids using it must possess powerful internal power systems or else require extensive auxiliary power supplies, making it unable to be installed on most smaller-sized droids. Anything less than a droid of size comparable to most humanoid species cannot generally provide sufficient power to operate this component at optimal functionality levels.
- Selective - Although possessed of a wide array of sensors and scanners, not all can be effectively in use at the same time, due to shared processing, antennae, etc. and must be selectively configured for the droid’s situation and environs, meaning droids using this system – while having the theoretical ability to avail themselves of each of the sensor components – cannot use all aspects of this component simultaneously and thus will logically customize its performance. Therefore, a droid operating in the void of space will by virtue of its reasoning disengage the sonic capabilities of the suite, and when operating amid non-combat situations will not have its combat sensors active, providing narrow windows and gaps of vulnerability which can be exploited for a few seconds as it reconfigures its usage to adjust to changing scenarios and circumstances.
Knowledge is power and awareness is survival. With those maxims in mind, Visanj sought to create a sensor suite for droids that would make them both incredibly powerful and remarkably hard-to-kill. Able to collect and monitor a dazzlingly broad spectrum, the Nabu provides droids almost omniscient situational awareness and acuity, at ranges which push beyond the acuity and limitations had by most droids. The Nabu, when installed or integrated into a droid with sufficient intellect and power to operate it efficiently and effectively, surveys, monitors, records, and collects an immense amount of information which enables those droids to appear nearly omniscient, at least within the range of their sensors which is – again – impressive to say the very least.
Undaunted by countermeasures and stealth technologies that would stifle and confound lesser droid sensor packages, the Nabu is terrifically hard to deceive, block, or defeat, although not impossible. As system, due to its miniaturized nature and reliance on shared components such as antennae, etc. the Nabu requires droids to ‘adjust’ which components are in use based upon their situation and environments, and rapid and abrupt changes can create very brief and very specific gaps in sensory ability as it reconfigures it sensory profile. Those gaps can be exploited, creating potentially catastrophic vulnerability even if only for very brief amounts of time. Further, damaged or interrupted power flow can diminish capabilities as well. Lastly, attempting to use the Nabu on droids lacking the intelligence and programming to aptly utilize the vast scale and variety of information gathered is just a pointless waste, which in the best of circumstances will equate a vast amount of effectively useless data that may overwhelm an inferior droid brain, and in the very worst will result in total paralysis and shutdown for the droid. As a result, only the most advanced and powerful droids should use the Nabu suite.
One truly odd element of the Nabu system is that, using a specially reprogrammed version of the micronized TranLang III which comes as part of the Panoptes HUD, designed specifically for those used in the Nabu, the droid sacrifices knowledge of very obscure languages to gain an ability to comprehend, adapt, and even use contracted words and sentences, colloquialisms and dialects, slang and jargon (including various professional including military, political, economic, law enforcement, etc.), and even to affect more ‘organic’ tones and inflections, to wax poetic, and speak passionately and persuasively. These subroutines were designed to effectively make the droids more akin to advanced protocol droids, able to more seamlessly interact with various cultures, situations, and professions. However, due to an as of yet undiscovered quirk in the programming, some droids’ personality matrixes become rewritten, causing them to adopt unusual speech patterns, tones, and other odd linguistic traits. Ranging from sounding aloof and smugly superior, condescending or sarcastic, overly dramatic and colorful, to just plain rude, complete with outbursts and exhibitions of profanity, vulgarity, or obnoxious tones, and droids who affect these traits cannot be corrected without a total memory wipe and painstaking reinstallation of their original programming.
