Being the Lord Commander had seen Gerwald slack in other duties, namely the training of his students. It had never been his intent to neglect their training, but he found that while he preferred to train by having his squires shadow him, there were certain places they could not go. This new role was full of secrets, classified information, that would make those who followed the Vicelord uneasy. The Confederacy was a much larger and more complex nation than it had been even when Gerwald had joined. That complexity had to be managed, made to look simple. The citizens did not need to know everything Gerwald was privy to, and neither did his students.

There was one pupil in particular that Gerwald had been meaning to see for some time. Fury of Aerðs Fury of Aerðs had tried to kill him at their first meeting. She had caught him sleeping in the cave she had claimed as her hiding place from the cult she had been trying to escape. Fortunately for himself, Gerwald had been able to redirect the need to kill toward those it should have been focused on. Together they killed those who had made her a slave, and while it had brought some peace, the Cathar still bore the scars of what they had done to her, scars that would always serve as a reminder of where she came from.

Today they were on Stewjon. Gerwald had a home to rebuild, and work he could not do alone. While he did like working with his hands, certain portions of the project would lend well to ensuring that Morrigan could fine tune the skills Gerwald had been teaching her. While it may have been an easy ruse to get the help he needed, it would also be beneficial to the woman. Gerwald felt no guilt about using her training in such a manner.

“This is about focus. I know you can throw a rock with the force. I know you can kill. But what about precision? I’ll hold the planks, and you will drive the nails. No hammer, no tools, simply the force.”

Gerwald grinned.

“Think you can manage?”
