  • Structure Name: NAKAIOMA Storage Facility
  • Classification: Warehouse
  • Location: Throughout the Galaxy
  • Affiliation:
  • Accessibility:
    • Restricted to the general public, NAKAIOMA Storage Facilities are sufficiently guarded warehouses that can be found on most inhabited planets in the Galaxy (Excluding Bryn'Adul and Sith Empire space). The number of facilities on any given world can vary by a great deal depending on the scale of the parent corporation and subsidiaries' planetary operations, ranging from a single handful, to thousands. They can often be found in industrial locations, where they can either be seen independently, or as part of a much larger 'field' of storage facilities, sometimes numbering in the hundreds on worlds such as Coruscant or Skako. Lacking any windows, and shielded by high physical barriers such as walls and fences, it is impossible for the average passer-by to know what goes on within these facilities. Although a well-equipped, and highly talented individual could probably find some form of access, the contents of these facilities are for the vast majority of the time unimportant and boring.
  • Description:
    • Rectangular, sleek and black, the clean reflective surfaces of the facility's exteriors interrupted only occasionally by indented, stylized stripes perfectly represent the practical, sanitised corporate image that its owner wishes to present to the galaxy. Entirely unremarkable appearance-wise, Nakaioma Storage Facilities lack windows, and to a large extent any form of exterior extensions overall, excluding the collection of connection and sensory arrays located on the roof of the building, alongside its singular landing pad-- and the several filtration vents to be found across its side walls, connected to the internal environment regulation controls. At the front of each facility typically exists a courtyard, surrounded by large physical walls, and a checkpoint for wheeled vehicles, speeders and foot traffic. It is here where most of the loading and unloading is conducted, it is also here where the security office is present, consisting of a medium-sized black structure connected to the entrance checkpoint. The corporate logo exists on all sides of the building, and is constantly illuminated, allowing it to be perfectly visible even at night.

  • General Storage Area:
    • The primary purpose of any warehouse; this section of the facility takes up the overwhelming majority of the interior floor space. Divided and further subdivided into different sections based on type of product, and subsidiary corporation that manufactures, sells, or uses it, this seemingly endless labyrinth of container towers is kept organized by an automated system of robotic arms-- under the joint supervision of autonomous droid brains and organic employees-- which retrieve and deposit containers as they are brought to and from the facility. It can almost be easy to get lost in this abundance of monolithic metallic crates. A hardhat is required for entry.
  • Processing Lot:
    • Found between the General Storage Area; and the Arrival/Departure Zone, the Processing Lot is located near the front of the building, directly facing the exterior courtyard where shipments are delivered and extracted, it is connected to the ADZ via a series of large shutter doors where containers are exchanged. Supervised by a combination of autonomous, self-learning systems and organic employees to ensure that the former does not act out in any way, it is in this large, equipment filled room that containers are systematically organized and numbered before being sent to the General Storage Area. This ensures everything goes where it is supposed to be, both ways.
  • Arrival/Departure Zone:
    • Secured by intimidating tall dark walls, and the facility's security office and checkpoint, the Arrival/Departure Zone is where most of the warehouse's shipments arrive and leave. A large open duracrete-paved courtyard, though more commonly known as essentially a parking lot for both wheeled vehicles as well as speeders and even small starships, it is a generally unremarkable area, excluding the occasional exercises and drills the facility security detail conducts here. Other facility employees likewise enter and exit the building through this area.
  • Security Office:
    • At the very forefront of the complex, the Security Office is part checkpoint, part monitoring station, part armory. Due to the very numerous, and often inconsequential nature of each individual warehouse, a small number of security personnel exist here to supervise the drones, turrets, sensory systems, and droids that do most of the guard work. Equipped with computers to supervise the various cameras, motion sensors and alarms that exist across the facility, this is also where any and all individuals and wheeled vehicles or speeders that wish to enter the warehouse pass through, with the passing of bio and weapons scanners at the checkpoint being mandatory.
  • Communications Array:
    • A series of sophisticated receivers, transmitters and monitoring equipment, typically in the form of towers or dishes, exist on the rooftops of each warehouse, to facilitate a secure line of communications with off-site personnel at all times. Several of these systems also serve to assist incoming starships with landing procedures, and allow remote connectivity with the facility's various automated systems. Making the process of monitoring their performance easier by more talented company professionals usually not found on the premises. It is standard operating procedure to dispatch a response team in the event these systems stop transmitting information.
  • Landing Pad:
    • Differentiated from the Arrival/Departure Zone by its singular purpose construction, the Landing Pad-- usually-- but not always found on the rooftop of any warehouse is designed for starships that cannot appropriately land or fit into the ADZ, which was generally designed for wheeled vehicles, foot traffic, speeders and smaller starships. A shutter door next to the landing pad connects directly to the facility's General Storage Network, enabling easy transfer of onboard containers to the warehouse's storage units. There also exists a small staircase that allows the craft personnel to enter or exit the facility.
  • General Employee Services:
    • Existing to accommodate the relatively small number of biological staff for each warehouse; the GES quarter of the facility is an all-in-one combination of break rooms, sleeping arrangements, administration offices and other essential faculties such as bathrooms. Quite compact, it was designed with practicality in mind, to maximise the space that could otherwise be used for the storage of containers, or the automated equipment used to arrange them. It does serve a functionary purpose for the building's wider operation, as it is also home to the offices used to supervise the facility's robotic equipment.

  • Medium:
    • Cost ineffective to provide each storage facility with a high degree of on-site security, given the overwhelming numbers of them proliferated across the galaxy; the majority of any individual warehouse's criminal deterrent comes from Nakaioma Security's rapid response teams, which are deployed-- varying in number and equipment to facilities once an alarm is triggered, or suspicious activity reported. Heavily armed, highly trained and quick to the scene, these troops are effective in their own right, but do not exist on the local property itself. On average a warehouse will be staffed with several Security Officers, and a dozen or so battle droids. Automated security systems include a small number of Mitsuama Turrets, found on the surrounding walls, and a strategic locations within the building, hidden in ceilings and floors. Internal Security Cameras are very frequent, littering the site grounds in any variety of locations, accompanied often by Togawa Intruder Detectors. In the cyber and digital fields; on-site Network Intrusion Countermeasures and Tokai Biohexacrypted Communications shield the facility from would-be splicers.

Emblematic of the parent corporation's desire to centralize and streamline the wider conglomerate's command structure, and generally speaking symbolic its greater control and influence over its subsidiaries when compared to other businesses of a similar size; NAKAIOMA Storage Facilities were brought into being at some point during the Four Hundred Year Darkness, as it was proving too costly and inefficient to organize the protection and commerce of independent warehouses of each individual subsidiary group. As the plans for an multi-purpose, standardized structure design were being finalized, Nakaioma General Storage was brought into being to oversee the construction and maintenance of these new facilities; a subdivision of NAKAIOMA; the original incarnation of the corporation, and the parent company of the entire conglomerate; Nakaioma General Storage would find itself cooperating closely with Nakaioma Manufacturing; another subdivision of the parent which had since relinquished much of its physical production capabilities to the subsidiaries; and now served primarily as a holding and administration department.

The exact number of NAKAIOMA Storage Facilities that exist in the Galaxy is a fact that remains withheld from public knowledge by the corporation, although independent reports speculate it to be in the millions. Responsible for the holding of countless products, of all shapes and sizes that are manufactured and distributed by the conglomerate's many subsidiary corporations; these facilities are hives of activity, constantly active and always running-- thanks to their largely automated nature. On many worlds they can be found stacked on-top of one another, almost appearing to be skyscrapers from a distance, in-order to be more cost efficient with real estate prices, this is most typically observed on heavily developed ecumonpolis' and other urban worlds like Coruscant, Alsakan, Hosnian Prime, Denon or Skako. On rural worlds, or worlds with enough land or otherwise cheap land available, the corporation is much more liberal with its spending, constructing far-reaching industrial parks where in many cases the only architecture one can see in visible range is Nakaioma black.

Meanwhile on worlds less commercially active, such as out of the way backwaters, its not odd to find only one or two warehouses within an entire region or even continent. Blending into what little urban environments exist, or standing out like sore thumbs amid otherwise perfectly natural landscapes. Subject to the same safety and security procedures as other NAKAIOMA-affiliated properties, these storage facilities have seen themselves burned to the ground by either their own personnel, or off-site security teams in the event of a hostile invasion of the world or moon they are located on, or in any rarer scenario where the corporation has been otherwise forced from the area. In many cases, usually on less wealthy, and less developed worlds, the construction of a storage facility will receive fanfare from the local government; which will provide subsidies or tax breaks in exchange for opening the location up to manual employment. Replacing the typically automated systems with jobs for organic employees in exchange for influence over the town, city, or planet's affairs, depending on the power of the government in question, and the investment going into the number of facilities being built. Due to this practice, they have been targeted by frequent criticism as influential extensions of the corporation.
