Names? Possible Offense?

It was brought to my attention, that I use a certain roleplayers name, on site, without permission. At first I was like, huh? What the? But then, it kind of hit me, and I realize I did do it, that it was also not really proper. So, to help avoid that, I wanted to make a thread where people can post their IRL names/nicknames to be called.

This would then, be their release of the ability to do so, as a means to avoid such mistakes.

For starters.

Sup. I'm Zach. Yes its short for another. Yes I hate the full name. But you can also call me Ryno (Rhino). Had a moment in High School. Went Fball mode and charged head down into a mans stomach. Hence the name.

Anyone else want to get that out of the way?

To anyone that wants info, no, neither the persons name, nor the user name will be given. Including the other individual that brought it up.

There is a good number of people who give out their other names and aliases via Skype or PM. It's the Internet after all. Masks are nothing new. So just try to remember to address others with the most accurate persona. And never assume a real name is a real name. It's just, another name.

Myself,
  • JSC - Here
  • Escort111 - Xbox Live
  • Trigger - Skype Profile #2, DeviantArt
  • Shaun - Skype Profile #3
  • Freedman - Wikia, PSN
  • Rabbi Nicky - Adult Entertainment Name
  • Bobby420 - Starcraft
  • ReDD - Photobucket
  • Terynn - Yahoo #2

This way, when people call me Jay. I immediately know where they are coming from. StarWars RP. Lulz. Nobody calls me Jay. :p

Sup Zach, I'm Sean. It's not short for anything else.

On almost every game format though (as my writer as well) and Skype, I go by "SylntSyco" (Silent Psycho). Been a gamer tag for damn near two decades now. If you see that tag floating around, it's either me... or someone who needs to get hit probably. :-3

Well, in 8th grade my former friend tried to get everyone to call me "Baby Hands" because my hands were (and still are) the smallest of my class, as well as the majority of my peers.

But please, Ibby is much better. It's a derivation of another name from SWTOR.

Too late. Rhino is now your adult stage name.

There could be far worse Adult Stage Names than Rhino...and that's as far as I'll walk.

Hey all, my name is Niall, no it is not my real name, but it is a name I've gone by for almost two decades. I also go by Taenor in certain corners of the internet, and I do not have an adult stage name (though that saddens me a little).

I'm confused by this thread...Was the person's first & last name somehow used by sheer coincidence? I find it hard to believe that anyone is justified in being angry about a first name being used on a RP forum with a thousand other writers...It makes no sense.

Some of us have history on the web and would prefer to avoid tipping off potential stalkers. The RP world is not as big as you might think.

I still genuinely don't understand...How does someone knowing so and so's name is say, 'John' make any kind of difference? There are probably something like 5 million other 'John's in the world...Unless your name is one of a kind which is probably incredibly unlikely, I don't see how that connects anything to anything else.

Unless you use your first name as everything you do online, in which case, it's kind of your fault to begin with, no?

I've been known as Trihexilon, Tri, Hex, Hexalon, Trihex, Trihexilonius Maximus, Trihexigon the God of Shapes (May have made that one up), Dr. Sin, Dr-Sin, Doctor Sin, Sin, Sinalicious, and most recently Othorious (My gaming name for most everything, especially PSN).

Although I'm most known on here as Kaine, although a few people here call me by my real name which I won't disclose just because I don't want you mooks getting too familiar with your future Lord and Master.

You'd be surprised. Even in bigger circles like gaming circles, you can connect the dots and track people. And it can stem from carelessness years ago.

And in RP circles, it's probably super-easy, especially if you're using the same or similar character throughout the years. Heck, just by knowing my character is Asemir Lor'kora, you can find my first RP handle and IRL first name (probably last as well, I don't remember what I did 15 years ago) via some Google-Fu.

Granted, if you're on the internet, you shouldn't expect much anonymity, but it's still a little bit of common courtesy we can extend to people. Someone who is comfortable sharing his name with you may not be comfortable with sharing his name with everyone.
