Numbering only ten and fighting on frontier worlds a squad of Ghost Operatives can accomplish the task of a battallion of soldiers. They are an Elite force created by private military contracting corporations.
Use them well, or they just might disappear from your arsenal.

If you are Republic Navy, you will remain as such until you die, retire, or are discharged. There is no "For now". Otherwise you and your organization would be mercenaries, and would likely require authorization from the Senate in order to receive payment.

I am pretty sure this is the definition of a mercenary. I'd like to specify that there's nothing particularly wrong with that, but to my understanding if you weren't made by the Republic, and then your services/programs were purchased by the Republic, you'd be mercenaries. Not Republic Military.
