STRENGTHS
- Tractor Beam Arrays: The Basilisk is equipped with EIGHT magnite crystal tractor beam arrays, which produce a tractor beam ten times more effective than those equipped on a battlecruiser. They are arranged in a diamond shape mounted in the bow of the ship.
- Kyber-Imbued Batteries: The Basilisk has more than a few Kyber-focused turbolasers. These specific batteries have increased damage and accuracy.
- Highly Automated and Symbiotic Linked: The Basilisk is highly automated thanks to its N&Z systems, but similar to the Castor I/E and the Cerberus, Karl opted for less automation in the bridge. Using the FAE/S-07 Symbiotic Ghost Link allows its bridge crews to truly multitask. Due to the "Brain Strain" that this system creates, there are three bridge crews per bridge, typically a morning, afternoon, and night crew. This ultimately counts up to a normal bridge crew, but a reduced number on the bridge at one time allows for swapping if one bridge crew member is injured.
- Quality to match its Quantity: The use of various new and old, well-known materials chosen for their outstanding reputation within their field or the intent to be loaded out with the best materials possible coupled with the N&Z's known build quality promises a ship that can take a heavy beating and still would manage to trudge on. Additionally, the hull has been reinforced with Segueium X armor plating, giving it extreme protection from the majority of threats.
- Primary, Secondary, and Tertiary Systems: The Basilisk has two components of its construction to have three parts rather than just one or two, the bridge and hyperdrive.
- It has one bridge mounted on the top of the craft acting as the primary bridge, the secondary bridge is located nearer to the bottom of the aft section, and the tertiary bridge is within the hull of the ship.
- The hyperdrive systems have two that came mounted in the Tiber I class with an additional “only use if other two are broken” redundant hyperdrive added on. This tertiary system is normally not powered, but if needed will take a minimum of ten minutes to transfer power, in the best of circumstances.
- Limited Anti-Interdiction: The Basilisk comes equipped with a Null-Series, allowing it to escape battlecruiser-level interdiction and below. Anything larger than a battlecruiser will require multiple of these ships.
- Highly Automated and Symbiotic Linked: If the internal AI were to be compromised, the low personnel count would make it hard to counteract this imbalance causing the functionality of the ship to decrease significantly. Additionally, while there are three different bridge crews, if one station were to have all of its members injured, the station would be unfulfilled making the ship's overall function decrease.
- EMP/Ion: While this ship has metallic alloys and compounds with extreme EMP/Ion resistance, it is only that, a resistance. Many systems on this ship are technological boons to the crew and AI but with enough EMP/Ion damage, it could begin to take them out and hinder the overall function of the vessel.
- Hunter Becomes the Hunted: When the tractor beam arrays are activated and have caught something, the ship locks into place, meaning maneuverability and speed are reduced to nothing. This leaves the ship unable to ‘dodge’ incoming attacks.
- Cataclysmic Results: If the tractor beam arrays were to be destroyed from the inside rather than just being disabled by outside fire, they would cause a large enough explosion to disable most of, if not all, of the armaments mounted on the bow of the ship.
DESCRIPTION
This is the Basilisk-Class Battleship, the second of the Hunter line of ships. Inspired by the likes of the Starhawk that came into existence after the end of the Galactic Civil War. This classified project came into being after the invasion of Mon Cala where TAC terrorists slew the late Emperor Velran Kilran. The initial idea was brought forth by Admiral Orion_Knight and followed by Moff Karl Von Strauss. Using his new connections as Division Chair of N&Z EnSol, Karl had multiple teams brought together to design this vessel not only from the Naval Corp of Engineering and N&Z but bright, loyal, Imperial minds from the Mon Cala and Pammant Shipyards, although various and extensive background checks had to be made for everyone aside from Karl and EnSol's Chief Engineer. Because of the introduction of Mon Calamari and Quarren engineers, the design took on a slightly different physique, combining the best of Imperial and Mon Cal design. Additionally, different parts of the ship were produced at different shipyards. Secretly over months, parts were delivered to an underwater shipyard on Mon Cala where they were finally put together into the namesake of the class, the Basilisk. The first of a few of these vessels.
The main idea of the Basilisk is to trap larger enemy vessels, which at the moment is the TAC's Shark class of battlecruiser but will be able to handle other large vessels. To trap them, using the idea of the Starhawk, the Basilisk has eight battlecruiser-sized magnite crystal tractor beam arrays, located in the bow of the ship in a diamond formation. Using magnite crystals, these tractor beam arrays are ten times more powerful than the average battlecruiser beams. Once their target is snared, the armament mounted to the front can start laying into the trapped vessel. Unfortunately, the same can be said about the Basilisk itself, once it ensnares its target, the ship cannot move and can be shot at by its trapped vessel; the hunter becomes the hunted.
To help alleviate this downside, the Basilisk is equipped with some of the most effective weapons from the N&Z catalog mounted to the front to theoretically 'outpunch' their target. Additionally, the Basilisk is outfitted with some of the best armor material available, Segurium X. While only equipped with thinner-than-average armor plates, the effective resistance of the material is substantial enough to outweigh the need for thicker ones. The ship is additionally equipped with substantial weapon systems to allow it to function as a normal battleship if snaring a vessel is not required, those armaments include kyber-imbued weaponry, super heavy assault missiles, point-defense pressors, and an automated point-defense system paired with high-tech N&Z laser cannons.
The Basilisk is also equipped with a slew of advanced systems from manufacturers such as First United Astral Engineering, N&Z, and DDSI. A few of the major systems include the FAE Unified Engagement Network which can be explained in short with, "I see, we see." The FAE Symbiotic Ghost Link allows for the bridge and gunnery crews to be faster, hyper-aware, and multi-focused while linked with the system. The DDSI High Density Particle Interaction Software Sensor Module allows the ship, while in high-particulate galactic environments, to make sensors more accurate in clouds and storms that would otherwise obscure sensors and targeting systems with the press of a button. The NZ MTS "Bloodhound" [Magnetic Targeting Sensor] gives the Basilisk the capability to detect stealthed ships so that what happened to the late Emperor does not befall the Captain of this vessel.
All in all the Basilisk is a marvel of Imperial, N&Z, Mon Cala, and Quarren engineering. It combines the best and brightest ideas and forms them into a singular coherent idea. It is very much form and function as with most recent designs that Karl has been a part of. This ship is a perfect addition to the line of hunting ships being produced and will stand the test of time being at the forefront of technology. There will only be a few of these produced due to the massive costs associated with them, and only one Basilisk will be put into each hunting fleet. Additionally, one will be allocated to the N&Z Security Division, and the production of the said vessel will be personally overseen by Division Chief Karl Von Strauss and Marquis Tertius C. Nargath .
