These beliefs came to be after the Dathomirians realized that nothing can thrive there, plant or animal, due to the invasive Murakami orchids there. however, when treading by river through the canyon, it is suggested that one try to avoid going through the canyon. Those who have been brave and/or foolish enough to ignore the warnings, were never heard from again.
  • Description: Neko Ilnayia Kanyon, known as Black Orchid Canyon, is a massive canyon on the planet Dathomir. Black Orchid Canyon is the effect of centuries of rivers slowly eroding away at the earth, revealing layers of stone, creating large plateaus and deep gorges. Atop these plateaus are beautiful flowerbeds dominated by the Murakami orchid, a flower with it's own morbid history. Giant slate walls surround the slowly flowing rivers below. Other than the Murakami orchid, Black Orchid Canyon is devoid of any life. The Dathomirians believe this is due to spirits of the dead who are unable to rest go there and torment anything that comes within the canyon.
POINTS OF INTEREST

  • Murakami orchid beds - Each plateau high above the canyon ground is covered in beautifully bloomed fields of Murakami orchids. It is unknown how the flower had made it's way to the planet and why it is only found in this area, nonetheless, the orchids bring some beauty to this otherwise mysterious and dreary place.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION

There once was a time when Black Orchid Canyon did not exist. A time when the rivers that now flow the canyon's winding curves flowed across a beautiful landscape. A small clan of Dathomirians lived there once, many centuries ago. They were not known by name, but they were known for being a peaceful group. They bothered no one and rarely ventured far from their lands. This clan thrived for many years.

That all changed when the Mandalorians attacked.

The clan was slaughtered. Men, women, and children alike, butchered. The invading Mandalorians came in search of fertile land and found it beneath the feet of the native clan. They took it from them in cold blood, not knowing of the chain of events they had wrought.

As the years went by, the fertile land grew sour, rotting anything the Mandalorians attempted to grow. Then, soon after, the rivers began to sink, cutting through the earth like a knife through bread. The Mandalorians slowly disappeared, one at a time, without a trace all until the last one was gone. This once verdant field was no barren. Only patches of grass and cracked dirt remained. Though the Mandalorians were gone, the land did not heal. The damage was too far along.

As time passed, the river continued eroding away at the earth until a true canyon formed. Life started to bloom around the canyon once more, but in the form of black orchids as compared to bright orchids that once graced the area. Dathomirians believe this to be a bad omen and have forbade anyone from going near the canyon, fearing the wrath of the restless spirits there.

For the benefit of new writers, please provide a link to the Murakami orchid (I assume you mean those that appear in Red Harvest).
