DESCRIPTION |
As Aether Systems continues to grow and its ties with the Galactic Alliance deepen further, the need to protect both Corporate Assets as well as provide the Alliance and its allies with affordable and easily produced defensive stations has also grown. To answer this demand, Aether Systems has developed the Nerio-class Starfighter Dock to be deployed in key locations to ensure that a Starfighter Squadron is always a call away. Its primary function is that of a static defense and though most commonly spotted in orbit, they can just as easily be deployed into Deep Space - though once deployed relocating the station would require additional assistance as it lacks any form of actual drive system, means of propulsion, or hyperdrive to relocate itself. With its primary focus on the maintenance and deployment of a large contingent, the Nerio-class is capable of supporting up to four wings of Starfighters - each organized into three squadrons per wing. Additional hangar capacity allows the station to support a further two additional reserve Starfighter Squadrons as well as deploy up to two squadrons of Support Craft and Shuttles. Its design is largely inspired by the Hapan cultural emphasis on beauty, which resulted in an appearance that is similar to a thread being led through the eye of a needle; with the exterior ring housing the majority of the many hangar bays. This outer section remains connected to the primary central body through connecting arms and support struts, however, these are key areas that are likely to be targeted, and damage could potentially prevent the crew from being able to traverse from the central body to the outer structure. In the worst-case scenario, sufficient damage to these connecting arms and support struts could cause the exterior ring section to be completely disconnected from the primary body. The Nerio-class Station provides the means to ensure that a planet is defended, providing a large contingent of Starfighter or Bomber Squadrons to render aid until further assistance can arrive to secure the planet in question. Its size, though making it an easy target, is central to its larger hangar capacity whilst its additional defensive measures and reinforced capabilities ensure that it can remain in working order even in a prolonged engagement. Each Nerio-class is also equipped with a modest array of weaponry to further assist in protecting the station as well as providing additional support fire to its deployed Squadrons. |
