Strengths:
~ an average carrier, the Nest Class Carrier Cruiser has adequate shield and armor to protect itself from enemy vessels
~ due to being designed as a 'Carrier' first, the smaller vessel is able to field a higher quantity of starfighters then even some larger capital ships
~ with atmospheric entry in mind, the Nest also has a complement of infantry and ground assault vehicles able to be distributed with the six Umbra Class Dropships at it's disposal
Weaknesses:
~ unfortunately the Nest is primarily a carrier and, while it can hold it's own momentarily, it is vulnerable to larger, more powerful vessels and is even outmatched within it's own class
~ due to it's wide design the Nest can be buffeted by winds that could knock the vessel out of approach vectors
~ when the particle shields are dropped at the bow of the ship for the starfighters to launch, the bow is left under defended and a well placed shot could conceivably block the hangar with debris or even destroy the ship
Description:
As the Aegis Corporation launches it's first three ship designs the plan was to create three ships that could be used within any armada, but were designed to work with one another. While the Diamond Class Cruiser delivered infantry units, the Blastoise Class Cruiser performs as the heavy hitting shield, the Nest Cruiser was designed to bring starfighters that each of the other ships lacked.
Able to field six entire squadrons of fighters, the Nest brings more versatility to the field. Either acting as a screen, engaging enemy fighters, making runs on targets of opportunity, or acting in a reconnaissance role the starfighters bring many options to the table.
Adding to the aerial combat the Nest Cruiser also had the ability to release Dropships for infantry reinforcements at crucial points in the theater of war.
Despite the risks the lighter armed Cruiser brings, the benefits outweighs the potential cons. If used properly and with the correct support vessels the Nest Class Carrier Cruiser is a boon to any fleet.
