NEW CAPITAL LOCATION VOTE

Status
Not open for further replies.
Alright so, for a while it seemed we had unofficially decided on Bilbringi, as suggested by Aurelia Saeleri, but after some further discussion and taking into consideration recent events, we'd like to open up a vote to the memberbase on where you think our capital should move to.

Keep in mind the upcoming event Map wipe. Republic will lose 2/3's of its remaining cloud, and depending on where we place the Capital it can me some very different results. Take into consideration the possibility that we may lose both invasions, so our current sphere of influence will already be cut in half.

This vote will only last until 7PM Saturday, as that is the cut-off for when Tef will be doing the map update for the Event, in which case the capital WILL be moved to Bilbringi if a new decision is not made, as Saeleri's post in the map update thread will still stand as uncontested by GR Administration.

The planets provided in the poll are those that were discussed by the Admin team as being relevant choices.

Bilbringi: One very serious advantage: perfect for fleeting defense. Offers shipyards (as we are likely to lose two of our major ship suppliers via Kuat and Rendili with the map reset), is surrounded by an asteroid field, and is strategically located to help stave off cloud-breaking if it's invaded.

Carida: Another strategic location in the thick of things.

Hapes: Because the Hapas just love the GR and they're pretty. Location is nicely situated out of the way. (The Hapans don't actually like us that much, but we don't really know that IC. Who doesn't love pissing off the Hapans?)

Onderon: Good choice so far as location, canon and IC developed places and defenses, as well as several PC characters already being heavily involved there. Capital city Iziz would be easy to move Senate and operations. Close to our only official allies OP.

OTHER: If you choose other please name the planet and list why you think it would be a good choice. You may also use the Other option to vote for an Other planet listed by someone else.

YOU MAY ONLY VOTE ONCE. ADMINS WILL BE CHECKING THE VOTES TO ENFORCE THIS RULE. We'd like to limit the voting to the currently active Republic memberbase. If we suspect you're simply voting to skew the results without being an active member, your vote will not be considered.

I am going to vote Onderon based on the information provided. However... I would also like to present the idea that as the map stands currently, Onderon is a prime target to attack. We'd be sandwiched between the Mando's, and the OS as far as SOI. (Not entirely sure where exactly they stand in regards to they're overall friendliness to the Republic.). Given that, I would present Cyrillia as an alternative, as it is much further south, and adjacent to OP. More difficult to besiege, though as far as current developments and defenses I don't know what it has.

Just my two pennies. If Cyrillia isn't a viable option, count my vote towards Onderon.

I do agree that it is a viable place to attack but we don't know who is going where or doing what. The map reset could really screw the pooch for us in terms of positioning.

*shrugs*

I guess you leave me no choice! Nah, I'm kidding. Seems doable - potentially we could fortify it. Sad we won't ever see the beautiful skies of Coruscant again ;_;

One day, man.

One day...
<_< Epic that will be....

Rebuilding the Jedi Temple that was destroyed, ect.

It's cool how the OS built all that dark stuff, I wonder what kind of effects it would have - you know on a ground invasion, ect.

It also would be cool to tear all of it down - bahaha!

For now, I'll sneak to Coruscant on a cargo ship X_X

Please read this before you vote.

I've been analyzing the map and approximating territory loss based on capital locations, and this is something that seriously caught my attention.

Has anyone perhaps considered Commenor?

Corellia is right next door. We will still control several fortress worlds and shipyards. Manaan will be in reach to retake. The south and east will be wide open as the rather inactive ASA, Omega Protectorate, and Black Suns will shrink favorably away and open huge expansion paths.

While I very much would like to take Myrkr right off the bat, I am looking at its location relative to Mandalore and I don't believe the Mandos will lose it during the map event due to its proximity.

If we hold off one more day at Kashyyyk, we'll still have plenty of territory to the east and a bit to the north to springboard us for Hapes and Eshan. We'll probably still control Onderon, or at least be able to take it over within the first week or so.

Do not underestimate the importance of the Core Worlds. The OS is going to drive for them immediately if we're not already there. I know Commenor is not far from Alderaan--a planet that OS will undoubtedly retain after the event--but Onderon isn't exactly a long shot either, and the worlds nearby aren't very rich once you get past Hapes and Eshan.

What must finally be said is that we're not going to get much rest from the OS surge either way. It's best to have the best on our side and not simply allow them to gobble up key worlds without resistance. We're going to be in for a fight no matter what. No matter where we are on the map, we're going to have to contend with the Sith and drive like there's no tomorrow to dominion the worlds we need. Let's not make it any harder to take back the important military worlds.

And no one wants the Sith to have Tython. Am I right? :)

From Commenor, we go to Manaan and to Telti; to Kashyyyk and to Hapes and to Eshan. From Rendili, we go to Corellia. From Mimban, we shoot for Deneba.

This will require some aggressive dominion play, so make sure you believe we can do it.

The second place that caught my eye was Eshan Carida.

With Eshan Carida as our capital, we'll probably retain territory from Onderon to Bilbringi, two of our current capital options--meaning we can switch at any time. Going to Eshan Carida will be a more conservative game, with us pushing east to Generis and North to Csilla, claiming territory that will assuredly be lost to the OS and Mandos, leaving open pastures for us to graze. Meanwhile, we could push southeast to reclaim Kashyyyk and all that wonderful stuff.

But remember: We lose so many Core Worlds--shipyards, fortress worlds, trade worlds--if we go this route. And the Sith will most certainly have them to themselves within a few months if we don't attack in the meantime.

I will not complain no matter which direction this vote goes. Onderon isn't a bad starting location in the least. But please consider what I've pointed out. Onderon will be pinched and expansion will be forced to the south exclusively.

This has been your wonderful Chief of Senate, signing off and saying, "Go Republic!"

One big issue with Eshan:

It is ruled by a woman who is married to one of the High Council Members of the Fringe, a known powerful entity that doesn't currently have good standing with the Republic. Heck, she's fighting against us in the Invasions as we speak. Eshan was absolutely discussed, and this very reason is why it wasn't listed as a good option. Picking Eshan would really be dooming us to a great deal of consequences I don't think anyone wants to encounter.

As of this announcement, Queen Spencer Jacobs is on the Fringe High Council herself (her wife Ashin Varanin is Grand Admiral). And Fringe is currently allied with OS. In other words, the member of a foreign government allied with an enemy of the Republic is also the ruler of a Republic member state. Just for info.

As for the vote, since I have not been that active with this character on the Republic side I'll be abstaining.

Commenor sounds good.

Although I'll also be assisting the OP in this as well, as at least half of characters are all originally from OP space and the Jensaarai are part of the OP.

I do not want them or Suarbi taken up by any other faction in that area.

After some consideration... I feel we should move the capital to Ossus. It would put us close to the mandos yes, but as of currently we have no quarell with them, also it would put us close to the order of the silver jedi who, I am sure would not only nor attack us but possibly provide aid in a time of need. It would sort of be like forming a new little coruscant. There was a jedi temple situated on the same planet as the senate then, and that way wouldn't have to send jedi to sit in with the senate ( grant it I'mm not sure if we do that or not). Well just some thoughts from a padawan :)

Oh and [member="Aaralyn Rekali"] I will totally sneek on that cargo ship with you! I am dying to see what used to be the jedi temple on coruscant.

Wow I didn't miss much for having no internet all day.

I voted other. I support Cyrilla and Commenor nominations that the others made above, but I also wanna throw two others in.

Specifically Rendili (I'm totally biased) and Humbarine.

Humbarine is canonically a fortress world of the Republic and is in a location where we could push east quickly if we lost some of those worlds in the reset, not to mention the ability to move south as well. It would also allow us to maintain our inner rim/core worlds and primary companies.

I voted Rendili completely on bias. . . . .b-but its got history! It was a founding member of the original Republic and consistently supported Republic regimes and always been a staunt supplier of the Republic Navy. Plus it is very close to the region of our official allies the OP, so if pressed we can call on them for support there.
