THE UNDERGROUND
Who is the Underground?
The neighborhood fruitseller. The carpenter. That air-taxi driver. The tramp freighter captain who just got into port. We are everywhere, the ordinary (and some less than ordinary) people living our lives in the galaxy who refuse to bow down to tyranny and oppression.
What is the Underground?
A movement, or rather, a collection of movements of individuals who choose to band together to resist oppressive regimes. Originally inspired by WW2 resistance movements, Jorrus Merril founded the first wave of the Underground to resist the One Sith. The Underground eventually became the Kathol Outback, forming the foundation of what is now the Outer Planets Alliance.
This Underground is a return to the original roots. A collection of resistance movements, agents, and guerillas. Individuals and groups committed to freedom and fighting injustice across the galaxy. Work as independent cells to establish resistance movements in occupied worlds. Train volunteers at risk of occupation. Steal equipment from empires to hamper their supply lines. Then disappear.
IC Values?
Freedom from empires and regimes that use force to subdue and occupy their conquests. Level hierarchy. Equality among comrades. No war crimes. No civilians harmed. No acts of terrorism against civilian targets.
Why now?
Because there's a war brewing and this time the Underground intends to be prepared. Also, there's no active Rebel Alliance style minor faction.
How is the Underground structured? How does it operate?
The Underground has a flat, cell-based structure. There is no leader of the Underground, no Underground High Command. Instead, it operates through a loose collection of cells based on planets, in sectors, or mobile, that engage in operations. As for how, the initial idea is to establish supply lines, train sleeper cells, establish logistics networks, and recruit people to passively gather intelligence all across the galaxy. When necessary, the Underground operates through sabotage, infiltration, and stealing assets from the opposing regime.
OOCly, based on Jorus' original idea that worked really well and was a lot of fun, these are the intended goals for operations:
1. Dominion collaboration- If you're writing an evil empire and want to dominion a planet, let us know and we can join you as an opposition team to help build relationships, start stories, and try to make stories more immersive. If you're not an evil empire, we can work with you on dominion storylines as well, ranging from being the local Underground cell assisting in your operation, or training missions.
2. Underground Job Board- It's hard work funding, training, and supplying an Underground cell in the heart of the Sith Empire. We need people to move materials and people, often discreetly, and will hire smugglers to get the job done. Even in the more freedom inclined governments, even they'll be suspicious if we show up with a ship full of military grade weapons and explosives.
3. Skirmishes- Hit and run raids, heists, sabotage infiltration, and the like in collaboration with the opposing major faction. if you want a skirmish for some PVP action, let us know, and we can work on building stories together.
How does this work OOC?
Want to join? Well, your character knows someone who knows someone who knows someone and can put you in touch. Otherwise, it's a minor faction open to members of most major factions whose values align and are individually committed to the fight for freedom. Stay involved with your major faction, live your normal IC-life, and nobody ever needs to know you're part of the Underground. But maybe there's a job you can do, and the Underground will ask and provide resources. Get paid for it with the job board, or organize and run a mission yourself, inviting other members to get involved.
OOC, the Underground is committed to enthusiastic collaboration, goodwill, and working with the major factions to tell stories together. We're not going major, we're not out to cause salty chaos, and we're not here to watch the galaxy burn. Star Wars is all about the scrappy underdog hero, the desperate defense against impossible odds, and snatching a small victory from the jaws of annihilation, all of which usually accomplished by individuals who are unable to standby and watch injustice triumph.
Those are the kind of stories we're here to tell.
