New Hardware

[member="Sor-Jan Xantha"]

Galven had been browsing around the galaxy and the HoloNet, looking for adequate companies. Now that he had found a place to call home, it was time to stock it and make it a 'home.' He found one such company that could help him with one aspect, although, entirely different from places he would expect, but found the entrepreneur to be quite skilled, and perhaps a great option for Galven himself. He requested a meeting with the owner on a remote space station towards the center of the galaxy. Not in the specific center, but a bit far from the outer rim. He had plans, and this could be a major supplier.

Not a whole lot of information on this one.

New customer. Not exactly clear on the details of who or what the specific client was. A nondescript meeting point in about the middle of nowhere. For a host of reasons, the boy had thought about turning down the job. Except, business wasn't nearly that good that he could afford to summarily dismiss a potential contract out of hand. Plus, what kind of sabaac player would he be if he didn't take the gamble and see what cards the other guy was holding.

It wasn't likely to be a trap. Any Sith looking to pick a fight with a Jedi entrepreneur operating a business out of the Corellian Sector would have just shown up on Drall. Of course, Jedi entrepreneur was an oxymoron. Which went to show or demonstrate just how the boy had become something of a retired knight of the Old Republic.

Regardless, the YT-2400 light freighter had voyaged up the Corellian Trade Spine from the offices that were just opened on Druckenwell toward the Core Worlds. This close to Sith controlled territory, the boy was grateful for the Techno Union identi-codes that the Alderaan Queen now bore. Even if this meeting was taking place in neutral territory, anything toward the Core was going to be in arm's reach of the Darth war-machine spreading outward across a sky full of stars.

As the young vampire emerged from out of the ship's loading ramp, he glanced around the interior of the docking bay. But for the lightsaber hanging from his belt, there was nothing to betray his past allegiances or training. He wore a casual shirt and dark trousers decorated with a Corellian bloodstripe from events nine hundred years past now. A small blaster pistol rested in a holster on his right thigh. Tugging a dark jacket on, the boy turned the collar up as he ventured out for any signs of his contact.

Galven was idling by the Space Stations small cantina. One of those, not ventured too often, stations... but like everything, they had their own bit of shine and polish... or they did somewhere. Since it wasn't very busy, he would be able to realize quickly when his contact had arrived, unlike busy and bustling stations near the core. When he had caught the company boy docking, Galven was sipping on some fine ale, or at least the finest this place had... he wasn't a big drinker, either.

He stood up from his seat as the boy entered the rest of the station and walked out to the entrance to the cantina into the main lobby and waved to him. "Hello there, from Corellia Digital, possibly?"

Places like this were the proverbial salt of the earth.

As the boy stepped inside of the cantina, he was met at the door by a gentlemen who seemed to be expecting him. "Xantha," the youth supplied by way of name, inclining his head in acknowledgement and answer to the question. Extending a hand out, in case the man cared to shake hands in the human social norm, the boy said, "Sor-Jan Xantha. And, you are..?"

He'd been given a name, but given the set-up and circumstances surrounding this meeting, he was operating on the assumption such might have been an alias.

Galven gave a half-smile, reaching his hand out to shake the boys hand. "You may call me Tiberius." When he pulled his hand back, he gestured toward the table he was sitting at, "Please." He stated, walking back to take a seat. "Would you like a drink?" Galven was being very distant, or he was being courteous. While he knew this was a business meeting, he was trying his best to be social and kind... although his social skills were an obvious lack on his part

Tiberius.

As aliases went, that was actually rather classy. "Tiberius," the boy echoed, in acknowledgement of the name, as the pair shook hands.

Accepting the invitation to join him at a table, the boy raised a hand to the question of drink. "Unnecessary," the youth supplied, without elaboration. If his age wasn't an issue, then perhaps Mister Tiberius was already familiar with the boy's species. What Sor-Jan would care to drink wasn't likely to be found on the menu. Unless they were tapping the barkeep.

Looking over at the person occupying that position, the boy would just as soon keep his proboscis to himself.

"So, what can I do for you, Mister Tiberius?" the youth inquired, departing the casual conversation as he instead spoke to the heart of their meeting. "Your request seemed to suggest you were interested in having some pieces developed for you."

At this point, with the success the boy has had, the skills he's gotten, he was sure the boy had seen some poodoo, so it didn't matter to him what he drank. Even Galven rarely drank, only ever really for special occasions, and still rare. He leaned over the table slightly and nodded, understanding that the boy didn't care for formalities much and wanted to get on with it, just like others. Either way, Galven was fine with this.

"Terminals, holo projectors, broadcast systems... I don't want toys, I need military base grade hardware, not weaponry, tools, datapads, interactive consoles and the like for military outposts. I've got the eingeers that can build things, if they have the blueprints, but contractors are what I'm lacking. Good ideas, too."

Infrastructure.

He was looking to develop an information technology backbone for military outposts. That was interesting. From the Anzat's perspective, there was little difference between civilian or military grade computer systems. What difference there was usually lay in the multi-layer encryption and restricted access ports predominant with command and control systems. "We're involved in a similar project," the boy noted, not elaborating on the customer, but meant to relay that they'd undertaken such jobs before.

"Are you looking for a stock operating system? Or something unique to your systems?" There were pros and cons to either approach. Stock operating systems were widely-available, which made them compatible with a variety of different manufacturers and models. However, that same publicity made them widely known to slicers as well. Unique systems were more keenly focused, more obscure. But also, not as compatible. Or as readily compatible anyway.

"This place will be the brains, the headquarters, the home. So, whichever you believe would be safest; that is what I would request. Unfortunately, Galven knew even less about hardware and software compared to his knowledge on piloting a star, but that's why he asked this boy for his

Security, first and foremost.

"Very well," the boy answered with a nod. "We'll design something with security and usability in mind." Not an easy task, as everything was invariably give-and-take. Generally, the more usable or accessible that something was, the less secure it was. And vice versa.

"Do you have schematics showing the physical layout of the facility, so we can see plan around the physical arrangements?" the boy inquired. It would be helpful to be understand how the mechanical pieces would come together. Server rooms. Running cable. Figuring how many access ports were going to be needed, and where.

Running computers on a military base wasn't like dusting crops. One crossed circuit, and flushing the toilet might shut down all the garbage mashers on the detention level.

Galven reached into his suit and pulled out a small datapad, putting it on the table and sliding it over to the boy. "3D scans and full on pictures of the inside, of every room. It's an old Clone Wars era facility, so while it has some basics, it's definitely not standard era. We can replace old connectors and ports if you'd prefer, it's just more costly, but in the end it should be cheaper since most of what we need is already ready for us, like vents, cable systems, routes, etcetera. If you manage to do this job well enough, I may ask you to come on site... and try to repair the old database... see if we can get anything off of it. Anymore negotiations would happen on site, however, we can't know what to pay you before we know what we've paid you to find. Think you can rebuild an old Clone Wars era small databank, make it work without damaging whatever is left, and connecting it to this new system you're making?"

Clone Wars?

The boy leaned forward, suddenly far more interested in this project. Taking the datapad, the boy began scrolling through the schematics, looking for anything that may have been familiar. "I served in the Clone Wars," the boy noted aloud. Truthfully, the circumstances of his arrival in this current era were such that he forgot those events were almost nine hundred years ago. To him, mere months had passed.

With the four hundred years darkness, those computer libraries might well represent lost histories of the Republic and the Jedi. "I'd very much like to take a look at the computers. See what might be recoverable," the boy remarked candidly, as he looked back up at the man. "But, this should be sufficient for drafting the initial designs."

Tapping the edge of the datapad on the table, the boy thought about the work for a moment, then looked up at the gentlemen across from him. "Is there a particular deadline you'd like for those?"

Galven nodded with a slight smirk as he could tell the boys reaction to the mentioning. In truth, Galven was the same way at first in the initial discovery. The datapad didn't have too much information on it, it was all needing to be secretive, and Galven was exposing as much as he could. "Let's just say, the sooner you get what I need done, the sooner I might let you get your hands on the old bases servers? Now, would you say we had a deal?" He asked, reaching a hand out. This boy may very well be the key to unlocking the bases secrets, and it felt like a win/win situation for the both of them.

The boy nodded.

Extending out his arm, he accepted the handshake quite readily. The news of the Clone Wars had invigorated him for this project. "You shall have it," the youth promised, quite sincerely.

Standing, the boy prepared to take his leave from the man. "I assume, the method by which you contacted us will be adequate for use in informing you of our progress?"

It made sense that it would be, but some people like having disposable HoloNet addresses. Best to confirm he had a solid means of getting in touch with Mister Tiberius.

(I responded, the site must have glitched)

Galven smiled and nodded back in affirmation. "Yes, HoloNet message the contact message I sent before, and we should be good. On the note of when... let's just say, the sooner it gets done, the sooner I'll let you get your hands on that CLone Wars era server. How's that?"

The boy nodded.

"Excellent," he supplied, as he rose from the table. "You should expect to hear from me in the near future."

Note the use 'me' as opposed to 'my people.' The Anzat engineer had taken a personal interest in this project. If delivery ensured a visit to the Clone Wars facility, then the boy would oversee the installation of the computers and software personally.

Galven smiled with an open mouth, clapping, "Grand, simply grand." He stood up from his seat, "Now, before I let you go, I must let you know... the day I let you see my facility, it's very likely I will require you to come alone. Have no fears, I'm not interested in stealing anything from you, acting like a crime lord, or any other insidious ways. It's a secret location, and I need very few to know about it. I'm sure you of all people would understand that, even aside from my ideals, such a facility can be very powerful, and the more word that got out, the less of a facility we would have. So next time we meet, be ready for a field trip." Galven gave a nod and a small smile, "It was nice meeting you."
