New pilot ready to fly!

Howdy! Seeing as this is my first character, I'm not really sure how these introductions are supposed to go, but I'll try my best. Nom is a 17 year old son of a wealthy business family from Bespin. Rather than inheriting his family's business, he decided that he would like to join the Alliance. Ever since he was a kid, he idolized the Rebel Alliance and their famous pilots, and even got an X-wing as a birthday present when he was 12. Although he has had no formal training in flying, he's been flying his X-wing for about 5 years.

He really wants to make a name for himself as an X-wing pilot in the Alliance, but he also brings excellent connections, negotiation skills, and mechanical expertise. Is there any sort of squadron he can join or ship he can ne attached to to gain experience?

Bespin being First Order property at present, your connections may prove useful if we needed to negotiate with the First Order ICly (although not necessarily OOCly)...

Is it possible to put a spot on hold? I want Nom to be a part of Rogue squadron, but I want to have him work his way to the position over several battles, if possible.
