Strengths:

 • Stopping Power: The BR-1 uses a 7.62x63 cartridge which packs an immense punch, being able to take down an unarmored target with a couple shots and a armored target in only several

 • Simple Use and Maintenance: The BR-1 is made to be easy to both operate and maintain because of the massive amount of troops that needed to be trained how to operate and maintain it

 • Rugged and Reliable: Due to the need of having a rifle that can be used on any planet the RR-1 was made to be extremely rugged and reliable in any environment

 • Tungsten Cored Rounds: Due to the prevalence of plastoid armor that are slug-resistant, the RR-1 uses tungsten cored rounds as it’s standard rounds

 • Psychological Warfare: The BR-1 also has a psychological warfare aspect to it as it leaves more grievous and noticeable wounds that a blaster ever could

Weaknesses:

 • Low Capacity: While blasters tend to have a hundred shots before they need to be reloaded the RR-1 can only hold thirty rounds at a time

 • Recoil: Even with a advanced recoil buffer installed in the stock the BR-1 still has a above average recoil that could easily catch a person not trained on the rifle off guard

 • Noticeable: The BR-1 is a very noticeable weapon due to a variety of factors. With it’s solid stock, several tactical rails and built-in compensator it is visually distinctive. The compensator also gives it a very distinct sound when fired as well

DESCRIPTION: When commissioned to create a standard battle rifle for the Republic, Hekler’Kok, and by extension Noah, sought to create a weapon that would help the soldiers of the Republic combat the threats that they face. The original plan for the BR-1 was for it to be a blaster rifle but the heavy use of personal shielding by hostile factions necessitated the switch to a more unconventional design and fortunately for the Republic the designers at Hekler’Kok excel in the unconventional.

Instead of a blaster rifle the BR-1 was restructured as a slugthrowing assault rifle but this of course brought with it more problems. Due to the prevalence of plastoid armor and its natural resistance towards projectile weaponry the designers needed to find a way to pierce the armor. Originally it was thought that upping the rifles cartridge from a 6.5x49mm cartridge to a 7.62x63mm cartridge would do the trick but it did not.

The designers returned to the drawing board and this time instead of changing the size of the ammunition they decided to change the type of ammunition used. The ammunition was changed from a full metal jacket round to a more dense tungsten cored round. This enable the rifle to achieve the needed armor penetration but also caused two more problems. 1. It increased wear and tear on the barrel due to more propellant needed to accelerate the tungsten cored rounds and 2. The larger round and more propellant caused the rifle to have more recoil.

Problem number one was solved easily by treating the barrel in a salt bath nitriding process to increase corrosion and abrasion resistance but problem number two proved to be slightly more difficult. At first the rifle was fitted with a built-in compensator but this proved to only slightly affect the recoil of the rifle. In order to mitigate the rest of the recoil, especially on fully automatic fire, a old project for an advanced recoil buffer was revived. After a few more months in development the recoil buffer was finished and installed into the rifle. With the compensator and recoil buffer system the rifle was much more accurate and easy to control.

The BR-1 was finished when the final touches like optic, grip and accessory rails, ambidextrous weapon controls and various other improvements and features were added. Finally after nearly six months of development the BR-1 was ready for trials where it would be issued to Republic troops. It was decided that a trial period of six months would be given for the BR-1 to prove its worth in combat. It only took a couple of months for the units that were given the BR-1 to start praising it. One unit in particular, the 43rd Shock Trooper Regiment, who were deployed to Arkania to combat the remaining cultists there praised the rifle for its ability to keep cultists down where blaster rifles couldn’t.

At the end of the BR-1’s trial period the soldiers of the 144th Infantry Brigade, 21st Mechanized Infantry Brigade and 9th Orbital Drop Trooper Brigade, all three trial units in which the BR-1 was deployed, gave it nothing but positive reviews and only requested some nominal improvements such as a brass deflector, a forward assist, a flared magwell and a slight modification to to reduce stovepipe jams. Once the BR-1 started to pop up more and more within the Republic Army it began to gain a reputation and even was given a nickname: The Right Arm of the Free Galaxy.
