New Supreme Chancellor Question

Sadly our [member="Jack Sparrow"] is retiring from the role of Supreme Chancellor. He is going to spend the rest of his years charming the ladies, drinking rum and relaxing on the beach.

I'm still unable to create a poll, even when on my laptop for some reason....So, my questions are these:

Do you want the next Supreme Chancellor to be an NPC or a PC?

If you choose a PC, who would be your choice? (keep in mind this isn't a nomination thread )

No but well an NPC was suggested as it cuts down on needing a new election everytime there is an LOA. Suravi has the main say but I support cutting down on the pressure

And Jack said to get it going, so that's what I'm doing. I was also told to make this post by another admin rather than discuss it elsewhere, and this way we can have everyone's input and go from there.

I don't mean to sound shallow - and thus hope I don't come across as such - in saying this, but I'd like to nominate my other character, Alachei, for the job. She's had a decent amount of history with the Republic. She's been a diplomat, senator, a governor, a senator again, and has even been with the boots on the ground a couple times.

As for whether or not this should be a position, I vote PC. I probably speak for several people across the board when I say we have IC ambitions. More importantly, it's a very significant position in the lore and cutting that off from characters restricts roleplay and content. By opening it up, we'd be following in the Clans' footsteps with the popular decision to make IC leadership roles more accessible.

It doesn't really take away any authority from the FA's so I do not see the harm in making this available again.

PS: I've kind of entrenched myself in the site here, so to speak, so there is proof enough I won't be leaving again any time soon. I'm not just creeping for a chance to be almighty.



Edit: And yes, I know it's not a nomination thread. I'm trying to reinforce my case that there's good content in letting people go for it.

If we're going to have a PC willing to do something with the role, like take it seriously as a character position, fine. I don't care to waste time voting on it though, so that person that said they'd do it in the post before me is free to take the reigns.
The role offers no OOC authority anyways, so I don't know why we bother democratizing it.

Just write stories.

Outside of that, just make it an NPC so we can continue not writing with that character.

I know it's just an IC position at this point, but with that little enthusiasm, it's no wonder the Republic doesn't spring back up. If no one writes with these NPCs, they may as well not exist; if they do not exist, we may as well not be the Republic; if we are not the Republic, then this faction may as well close.

Downsizing these roles may very well be part of what is downsizing the faction as well.

Perhaps I'm reading into it wrong, but it sounded to me as though nobody really cares about any of this stuff. We can't be awesomesauce if no one cares about anything. D:

[member="Lady Kay"] Definitely a PC in the case of Supreme Chancellor. We need a face for that spot, and I feel that we have people qualified to do it. If nothing else, big military and politics is our thing in the GR. I'll be gathering candidates and setting up an election. In the meantime, we'll use an NPC Chancellor as needed.

I'm all for a PC as well. I just can't do it with Kay right now. She hasn't been in Republic politics since Jack won the election when she was fired and barred from working in gov't. I just spent many weeks getting her to her position and I'd hate to throw all of that hard work away.

I would suggest that until the election is over that the Vice Chancellor (I'm guessing is an NPC since I don't quite recall if someone actually put in for it) takes over in the Interim at least in any current or just now starting IC threads that may off handidly mention the republic!

[member="Caius Flavian"] Mmhmm, that's what I'm doing. There was no one who was working as Vice Chancellor before Sparrow resigned. In practice, I don't expect them to ever be referenced during the election cycle because our previous Chancellor was usually absent from major events. My focus is on getting some projects moving as interim Supreme Commander.
