New Template for Artifacts | Holocrons | Unique Canon Tech

After reviewing several new submissions in the wake of the Unique Canon Item guidelines, [member="Spencer Jacobs"] and I found that this particular template provided a nice clean template for such items. It isn't too far off the original, but does provide a nice show.

We asked the original creators if we could use them and we got the go ahead. Please review and add ideas.

DESCRIPTION

HISTORY

Of all those who ever practiced Mechu-Deru, Belia Darzu may be the most infamous. Perhaps Darth Mekhis was the pioneer of the art, but it was Darzu who perfected it to a T. Her holocron was constructed some time prior to her death in 1230 BBY. After the Mercosa Order poisoned her, they neglected to loot her citadel- likely on account of the army of Technobeasts that lurked within.

Just over two centuries later, Darth Bane entered the citadel and laid waste to the decrepit technobeasts that lurked inside, claiming the holocron as his own. Upon his death at the hands of his apprentice, Darth Zannah, the holocron was passed down to her possession. The holocron was passed down from master to apprentice of the Order of Two for many years after that.

It eventually wound up in the hands of Palpatine, which he locked away in a vault on Coruscant. It was then stolen by an upstart Imperial warlord after the Emperor’s death. From there, the collector that purchased it was ritualistically sacrificed by fanatical darkside cultists and the holocron claimed by them. It was then recovered, brutally and with no shortage of bloodshed, by Darth Krayt’s One Sith. Following Krayt’s defeat and the tactical retreat of his remaining adherents, it was be whisked away into hiding on Dromund Kaas.

That sect of One Sith maintained their secrecy for many centuries, only to be wiped out by the Gulag Plague. When the most recent, post-Gulag Sith Empire founded itself on Dromund Kaas, the Darzu Holocron was added to their collection. It was then transferred to Rudrig by the designs of Tirdarius and Dissero to be catalogued in the new vault there.

Then-emperor Tyrin Ardik withdrew the holocron for his own inspection a few weeks prior to the infamous heist of the Sith Archives engineered by Velok and Dissero. Thus, the holocron was spared from appearing at the infamous Holocron Auction. Distraught and paranoid, Emperor Ardik gave the holocron to Darth Vornskr for safekeeping. It remained with Vornskr for some time after the collapse of the Sith Empire. After the tyrannical Sith Lord exhausted the holocron of the knowledge he sought, he traded it to Rave Merrill.

Rave Merrill kept the holocron aboard her personal vault ship, which was then looted by none other than Siobhan Kerrigan. Deciding she had little use for the corrupting and self-destructive teachings of the Sith, she elected to sell the Darzu Holocron and a host of others to the Jedi Order. From there, the holocron remained in Jedi custody for some time. Eventually Jorus Merrill introduced his own sort of security system- effectively isolating the holocron form all forms of practical detection.

But, fortunately, the Force works in mysterious ways, and not even the best-kept secrets can stay that way forever. A freak accident caused the Stealth-X carrying the holocron to crash land on a barren, irradiated world. The breach of the nullification resin triggered a vision within Darth Carach, who at the time had been listening to his colleague, Adekos, complain at length that the holocron could never be recovered with such draconian measures in place.

They were able to track the holocron down before the Jedi, finding that it had been taken by the ever-mysterious Order of the Selab and locked in a similar vault on that very same world. After a protracted battle ending in the near deaths of Carach and his Umbaran colleague, the Selabites were killed, and the holocron procured by Adekos.

CONTENTS

As one could expect, the Darzu Holocron contains a wealth of some of the most advanced Mechu-Deru instruction available. Because Darzu also heavily relied on Sith Alchemy in her studies and creations, basic and advanced instruction in that art is covered as well. Darzu’s forte, however, was Mechu Deru Vitae. It is this subsect of Mechu-Deru that is covered most intensively within the holocron.

The gatekeeper will also expound upon the creation of the Nanogene, more commonly known as the Technovirus, as well as the creation, control, and modification of Technobeasts. Though perhaps less advanced than Mekhis’ Sith Knights, the Technobeasts are more plentiful and versatile. Finally, the reason the holocron is most commonly sought is for its detailed instructions on the creation of holocrons. Darzu’s Holocron has been the go-to for some centuries, and lives up to its reputation in that regard.

And what Sith holocron would be complete if the gatekeeper did not take the time to talk about itself and its own opinions? Darzu chronicles her own history with the typical amount of Sith bias and inflation, as well as her personal philosophies and political positions. These are generally in line with the principles of Sith at the time: totalitarianism, cull the weak, might is right, etcetera.

At the end of this list is, of course, a more general account of Sith history and attitudes largely in-line with the timeframe in which the holocron was created. Those seeking understanding of the Draggulch Period Sith will find all the information they could need in this holocron.

Assuming this is a holocron, datacron, or other type of information archive, this is perfect - even if I was submitting a flash drive, that's great. But when I want to submit, say, Darth What'sit's blaster, this suddenly no longer fits the bill. So, really, this is a great organization of the template - but it is way too specific to just holocrons. Realistically, this is just adding one field for entry - Content - which could fit in as special features or a description. We'd basically be adding a new template that would only ever see use for the holocrons that are going to be flooded into the factory following the canon rule stuff, and then those few board-canon ones that will show up on occasion, and little else. I mean, assuming this would be pushed through for just holocrons - which is basically what I saw on the skype chat before I got here.

If this is really for any unique canonical items being submitted to the factory, and not holocrons, (I really don't see why semi-unique, non-one-of-a-kind, items should count or be listed on the list, as there's more than one, unless there's a count from canon sources - not board sources) then I suggest we replace Contents with something more generalized in nature, like Special Features, as the vast amount of the contents in any given holocron can be requested by the judge to be listed in the description as its own little section of it, rather than making a mold that most submissions won't fit.
