Newcomer Questions regarding character ideas and etiquette

Hello! I joined a few weeks ago but kind of haven't started because of personal engagements taking up my time, but I'm almost ready to start, however, I have a few questions regarding my general goal with the first character I wanna do, and roleplay etiquette involved.

I want to be a good RP-er who takes hits and things and lets stuff go, though I'm kind of new to this proper thing and wanna do it as right as I can. I do have a general idea though about my character's arc I want to do, and I'm wondering if that's unfair to everyone else, even though it's a really vague framework and not really specific.

I want to take hits, things that last and stuff, but basically I want my character to reach a certain point before they're killed, and that's what I'm wondering if it is in bad taste?

I'm going for Jedi, and I want the character to have an arc and die after reaching a certain point I feel is right (after my main development is played out and they've done master things for a while, I guess?)

I've been trying to read as much stuff as I can before I start, but I don't know if anyone else has a general idea in which they want their character to go, but I have and want to know if that's bad or not?

I don't mind if they end up becoming more machine than fuzzball by the end, I just wanna reach a point before they're offed basically.

I hope this made some sense, I tend to get worried about if I'm doing anything right :(

After I'm done with this I wanna do a NFU character, but that'd be when I'm ready

Hello there! Firstly welcome to the site!

Regarding character death: only you can decide when your character dies.

5. You may not kill another character without that character's permission.

You can take hits in a fight and not have it lead to your character's death, it's actually rare to see a character death so don't worry about how it makes you look :) At the end of the day we're here to enjoy ourselves!

That is true, I guess I just kind of get overly worried about everything. I do wanna have fun, I also don't wanna be an un-fun never-get-hit-guy either and I wanna have that balance, somehow, which is what I'm worried about. But I guess I should probably start and worry about that later in...

Anxiety is terrible.

Welcome to the boards. Here's some tips on how to live a long and healthy life. Even during the PewPew.
  • 1. You're in control.
  • 2. Only you can kill your characters.
  • 3. Everything heals with tech.
  • 4. Private threads are by invitation only. Plot, storytime, and avoid encounters away.

Our good friend [member='Eralam'] is working on a Dueling Academy - if you're unsure on how to achieve a balance during PVP then I'm more than certain there are people there (and elsewhere on the site!) willing to help you develop your skills.

Honestly? The fact that you're wanting to be balanced and take hits is a very good first step :)
