Retractable laser cannons
Strengths:
- Fly Swatter: The array of laser cannons placed out along the ships sides allow it to easily screen against fighters similar to the lancer class frigate.
- Built Like a Box: Though having a basic design the NH20's over all shape and armor plating gives it a hard hull which when combine with shielding makes it a tough nut to crack.
- Small Crew: The basic design and nature along with lack of hanger and other systems means that the NH20 can run on a crew less then 150.
- Hulker: It's tough armor makes it hard to kill but also means it's hard to move for a ships it's size, not sporting good mobility or speed when compared to other frigates of it's size.
- Big Ships: The use of only 4 turbo lasers mounted on the prow means that the is has very limited ship to ship engagement options and if flanked by a ship of the line is susceptible to being crippled.
- No Hold: Despite it's size the craft if not suited to transporting large amount of troops or supplies due to it's over all shape and focus on fire power.
Description:
With the move to the core worlds and subsequent relocation of assets to Balmora, R&D into new ships designs and production had to be put on hold. Though such time frame mean no new products were able to be produced it did give ample time to design concepts for several new ships, the first being one to round of the line of frigates currently in production by HSCS. The NH20 is a heavy armored anti star fighter frigate, modeled after the Mando Corvette but with a more simple design put in place to make the most out of the wall of laser cannons placed on each side.
Operational Use
The NH20 is a very defensive orientated craft, working best when accompanied by other heavier craft or when protecting a strategic point against raids and other hit and run tactics. The ship does have the ability to operate on it's own though only in specific circumstances, as such commanders should be careful when considering the potential opponents the NH20 may go up against. If needed the craft can operate as a crude artillery like ship, able to sit back in a battle and use it;s turbo laser to harass enemy ships, protecting itself from enemy fighters while be to far away for dedicated ship of the lines to engage.
Defenses
The NH20 sports thick layered armor plating around the hull being made easier due to it's simple shape and design. In addition the craft contains two corvette class deflectors shields located in the dorsal like fins on the front and back of the ship. Overall this give the NH20 a robust defense, something needed to survive bombing runs and other anti-capital ship weaponry that may be directed at it. This does not mean it is invincible, just able to take more punishment then a regular frigate and if exposed to enemy fire for prolonged periods of time will go down just as easy as other ships.
