Companies in Star Wars had real power that many Corporations in the real world wish they had. If someone developed something and owned the rights to it, there was rarely a copy of it. Many corporations in Star Wars actually had their own pseudo-government in the outer rim called "The Corporate Sector", and while there may be a variation of it somewhere, that is the only Nightshadow Coating that exists. Anything else, such as Reflec, is different and unique in some way. This is also because Star Wars EU was written to include every work as one giant continuity, so most authors recycled companies and products rather than make their own.
