“I’m as Nimdok as Nimdok will ever be. That is enough.”
—Nimdok, "Manor Getaway"
To properly explain who—or what—this character is, I'll have to start out by telling a tale of two intellectuals...
Almost two centuries ago, a Shi'ido named Arimanes Bosch was born on Lao-mon, the only child of a wealthy clan that was rapidly dying out and fading away. He loved a girl named Inanna Hoole, whose family happily took the misfit boy in. But Arimanes never quite fit in no matter what he did, so he left his homeworld and everyone he knew behind in search of meaning and purpose.
His quest led him to wander the galaxy for several decades, during which time he discovered he had a small connection to the Force. His enthusiastic attempts at becoming a Jedi were a spectacular failure, however, precisely because of how weak his connection was. Despite this, he remained deeply interested in the history of the Jedi and the Sith, as well as the nature of the Force. At some point, he found an ancient lightsaber by chance during his travels, and at one point he changed his name to Casimir Heliobas and pretended to be an elderly Jedi Master for the benefits of the title.
Half a century later, a man named Errik Nimdok was born on Alderaan to immigrant parents of uncertain heritage. Like Arimanes, he was precocious and intelligent, with a hunger for knowledge. Upon reaching adulthood he pursued higher education at a prestigious university and graduated with degrees in history and anthropology. He became a respected professor, though many of his writings and attempts at research were mocked, derided, or even censored by his colleagues—and his deep-seated timidity and fear of the unknown kept him planet-bound.
Arimanes never met Nimdok, at least not while the latter was alive. Nimdok was killed in a freak transport accident. The professor, an only child whose parents were already long gone, left little legacy save for his impressive body of work and research, his widowed wife Bithia and young daughter Miri.
Three years later, Arimanes emerged from exile, returning to the galaxy at large in the guise of Casimir Heliobas, a fraudulent Jedi Master. His efforts at ingratiating himself with the latest incarnation of the Jedi Order were unsuccessful, and he only got himself into trouble. It quickly became apparent to the Shi'ido that his methods would have to be more subtle.
So it was that Nimdok's status was suddenly amended to "alive" three years after his death. Rather than reunite with his wife and child and return to his old way of life, the "restored" Nimdok—really Arimanes posing as the professor—sought to fulfill his previously impossible dream of being an adventurer archaeologist. He quickly reimagined himself as a fearless artifact collector and a formidable, if somewhat conceited, expert on the history of the Jedi and Sith.
But Arimanes' use of the dead man's name and reputation while ignoring the responsibilities attached could only go on for so long. Within a year of his assuming Nimdok's identity, Arimanes faced the consequences of his exploitation. Unaware that an impostor was masquerading as her late husband, Bithia was wholly unprepared when the Sith came for her and her daughter in the middle of the night, abducting the pair from their home. These Sith were angry at "Nimdok"'s theft of their artifacts and sought revenge.
While the initial plan was to ransom Bithia and Miri in order to draw Nimdok out of hiding so he could be properly dealt with, during the course of their investigation one of the Sith, Thetis Suzerain, discovered Arimanes' deception and reported it to her master, Arrius Messala. It was decided that Miri would be experimented upon using the same techniques as in Project Warlock, granting her a potent and highly unstable Force sensitivity and making it clear that they knew "Nimdok"'s secret. The girl was then left for Arimanes to find—though the operation was partially botched due to a case of miscommunication. Meanwhile, Bithia's consciousness was transferred into a biot body; subjected to its programming, she became an agent of the Sith.
In addition to Arimanes' guilt over what had happened to the little girl and her mother, a trip to the Netherworld in search of a fragment of the Dagger of Mortis led to him being confronted by the real Nimdok's ghost. In exchange for helping Arimanes find the artifact, Nimdok convinced him to let him possess his body, allowing him to be reunited with his daughter. Arimanes agreed, returning to reality with the fragment... and two souls constantly vying for control over his body, his power, and Miri's future.

STRENGTHS
- + The History Professor: He is something of an encyclopedia when it comes to history in general, but he specializes in the Jedi and the Old Republic. Expect an incoming lecture from him whenever a historical figure or event is brought up.
- + Photographic Memory: He can recall everything he sees or reads perfectly, and generally remembers events and occurrences in his life very clearly. He can recite whole passages from books he has read, and can over-describe something down to the most minute details.
- + Shapeshifter: Only to be used if diplomacy, trickery, or just plain running away aren't options, he can shapeshift into virtually any creature. He must be able to concentrate in order to enact the transformation, but otherwise there are no limits on what he can become.
- + Limited Telepathy: A natural ability for his species, this really only allows him to affect what others see. Its primary use is in covering up inconsistencies in his appearance that would otherwise tip people off that he isn't what he seems, but he has also used it to trick people into, say, thinking the results of a test were different. This only works when he's physically present and can concentrate on the person whose perception he is affecting—once he leaves, the person he deceived will be able to notice the discrepancy.
- + Symbiotic Possession: Due to the fact that he actually has two souls occupying the same body, he is immune to essence transfer, Force Drain, and soul manipulation. On the other hand, being of two minds means that he experiences nigh-perpetual internal conflict, as each soul has their own interests and desires. He might even be described as "two-faced" or having a "split personality".
WEAKNESSES
- - The Perils of Fatherhood: Wherever he goes, he is usually accompanied by his young daughter Miri. He has no choice but to bring her along even in potentially dangerous situations, where her helplessness and vulnerability becomes a significant liability. While she isn't completely defenseless, she is still a child and can't be expected to fight for herself, forcing Nimdok to put her safety and well-being before his own.
- - Reckless: His desire to obtain rare and endangered artifacts is obsessive to the point where he will put his own life on the line for such objects. Being a Shi'ido with above-average regenerative capabilities, he has a poor conception of his own physical limits and will pull stunts that could easily get him killed.
- "Nimdok. She was familiar with him only by reputation. Apparently he was an archaeologist that liked to play fast and loose finding dangerous relics. Relics a little too dangerous for his weight class. His papers were brilliant and he was clearly well-learned. Nonetheless, Syd was convinced his reach would one day exceed his grasp and that would be the end of Nimdok." - Syd Celsius
- - Extreme Temperatures: Arimanes grew up on a jungle planet. He doesn't do well when it comes to extreme cold (which can slow his shapeshifting down), nor does he have any desire to be set on fire, electrocuted, or burnt to a crisp.
- - Compulsive Collector: His love of history becomes obsessive when it comes to artifacts (and, when encountering very old beings who have seen a great deal during their unusually long lives, memories). He'll probably ask before taking anything that doesn't belong to him, but his determination not to walk away empty-handed has occasionally led to plain old thievery from those who are unwilling to part with their ancient treasures. He considers this an embarrassing, shameful aspect of his personality that he must work hard to control.
- - Annoying: He can be just a little too eccentric, talkative, and full of himself for some people's tastes.
- "Just who was this slimy bastard?" - Adrian Vandiir
- "I can see what Red meant when he said that just being around you gives someone a strong urge to throttle you." - Subject 648 Slipknot
- - Bad Girls: Every female he has ever been romantically linked with has fallen under the category of "morally questionable" or downright evil. In a broader sense, he is attracted to women who are dangerous and likely to cause trouble for him.
APPEARANCE:
"When I tell you this guy looked normal, I mean he looked like everyone's accountant." —Ravenous, "Nothing Beside Remains"
Nimdok is a tall, thin man with hawkish features; deep-set dark eyes, an aquiline nose, and high cheekbones. His pointed ears are the only outward sign that he is anything other than human, indicating perhaps some Sephi ancestry. His dark hair is somewhat long, nearly covering his ears; he makes little attempt to style it. He dresses conservatively, often in suitable work clothes or loose monk-like robes. Should you manage to make him bleed (or blush) you'll notice that his blood is black in color.
