Faction [NJO] Welcome to the Temple!

CORUSCANT
JEDI TEMPLE

(Objective: Introducing Kai'lyn to the Temple.
Tags: Kai'lyn Kai'lyn , OPEN)

Jedi had their own valets to take landing ships, and Jack didn't feel as if arriving in the Temple hangar would be momentous enough for the occasion. Hence parking right outside the grand courtyard, if anyone took issue with that.

They can file a complaint, and he'll ignore it.

Side by side, taking in the grand statues of ancient Knights, the pair stood before the steps further up one of the Jedis' pride and joy. His hand planted gently on the youngling's back, steadying his evident apprehension, Jack soaked in the atmosphere for a moment, pleased to be home after only one... Two days? Bah, felt like too long.

Glancing down from his brown hood to the boy by his right, Coruscant's sleepless traffic echoed in the artificial skies, the sun gleamed off the robe that was a makeshift for one clearly out of his element. Jack squeezed his shoulder, gentle as his tone.

"Ready, young Kai'lyn?"

it had been a long night shift for Katarine. She had been working with interrogators at the Coruscant Police Academy. Many seemed like promising new talent that would aid the police force someday. Some however were a little too eager, such as the young cadet who was clearly writing a parking ticket for a speeder parked by the Jedi courtyard.

“Barnes is it?” She approached the young cadet, recognizing him from the seminars she taught.

“Oh hello Master Ryiah. I don’t suppose you know who parked here?”

“No but If you want I can find the Jedi responsible and ask they move the vehicle?”

“Just find them and give them this ticket…” he ripped the ticket off and handed it to her “and tell them nobody is above traffic laws. Even Jedi.”

Katarine sighed and took the ticket. “Is this really necessary? Couldn’t you let them off with a warning?”

“I advise they pay the fine or show up to court. Good day.”

Katarine rolled her eyes and turned towards the Temple, wondering how she was going to find the owner of the vehicle.

Kai'lyn's eyes were wide, his head constantly shifting as he tried to take in everything at once. The sheer size of the Temple, the towering statues, the never-ending flow of people... it was overwhelming in a way he hadn't expected. His lekku twitched, and he fought the urge to crouch low or bolt at every sudden movement.

There was so much to see. He wanted to run ahead, poke his head into doorways, and press his hands against the cold stone of the statues just to see if they felt as solid as they looked. But the city noise, the hum of speeders, and the distant murmur of voices all pressed in from every side, setting his nerves on edge.

His body itched to move, to dart around and explore, but survival instincts kept his steps hesitant. His shoulders bunched tight like a coiled spring. The urge to run was there, not out of fear of Jack, but because it was too much, too fast, too big.

A low, anxious sound rumbled in his throat before he swallowed it down.

He took a step forward, then stopped. Then another, just to glance at something, before quickly scuttling back closer to Jack, his movements jittery and uncertain.

"There's so much,"
he muttered as he scanned the towering walls and intricate designs. The grandness of it all made him feel small.

Jack chuckled lightly, "So much to do, so much to see." Kindly patting young Kai'lyn's robe, offering in mirthful reassurance. "So we'll be taking the backseat... Meaning we won't be giving you the grand tour, just yet. For now, let's just get you to my quarters, and we can work from there. Sound good?"

He was eager to go, but hardly would proceed until the young Togruta felt comfortable enough to accompany. Jack smiled down, adding as his features glimmered beneath the hood from the artificial sun.

"At your pace, Kai'lyn."

Naturally, a darker presence in the temple piqued Aadihr's curiosity - and concern. A quick check from a distance revealed Jack Wright Jack Wright escorting a young force user, one who seemed overwhelmed. Concern shifted from worry for the temple to worry for Jack - and the child. A Togrutan it seemed.

Soon enough Aadihr was nearby. He offered Jack a wave a and kept his distance from the overwhelmed child. "Hey, Jack, long time no see - who's the little fella?" Aadihr asked, the corny joke a second nature by now. He intentionally directing the question to Jack so that the Togrutan didn't feel additional pressure and also to help them acclimate by adding at least one semi-familiar face for later.

Upon the new arrival, hazel eyes glimmered in recognition from a past meeting, within the hood smiling broadly, "Ah, Knight Lidos." Being more formal among his peers unless offered otherwise, glancing down to the young man huddled by his right, motioning softly. "I just picked up our young friend from Mygeeto, starving on the streets. I felt it was the Wright thing to do."

Patting the back of Kai'lun montrals gently, reassuring the newcomer was on the up-and-up. Of course, it helped Aadhir just had one of those friendly-looking faces.

Kai'lyn sniffed at the strange man, his nose twitching as he squinted at the cloth covering Adair's eyes. Why would anyone walk around like that? He had never encountered someone of his kind before, and the sight left him puzzled.

His sharp, darting eyes flitted around, scanning his surroundings warily, but he remained close to Jack, familiar, safe. Hesitating, Kai'lyn shied behind the older man, peeking at Adair from the shelter of Jack's side. A feral urge to bare his teeth and hiss flared within him, but the odd blind man kept his distance. How did he know where to stand if he couldn't see? The thought left Kai'lyn even more bewildered.

He startled at Jack's touch, his muscles tensing as he flinched and cast a briefly frightened look upward. The gesture confused him. What was its purpose? He had never quite understood touch, whether he welcomed it or recoiled from it remained uncertain, even to himself. Still, after a pause he gave a small nod.

"You live here?" he asked, his voice carrying a cautious curiosity. "Not on the ship?" He stared at the temple. “Tis a big home… you must be a lord.”

"You! The purple one!"

Pan stood atop a pile of boxes in the hangar, overlooking the various Jedi and the brand new arrival. He could feel their instincts in the air. The subtle twitches, itching to spring. A grin spread across the Neti's face as he looked down at the strange togruta, a glimmer in his glowing blue eyes.

"Long have I sought a worthy opponent to hone my abilities," he stated, his leaves bristling in the non-existent breeze. "I recognize your aura as equal to my own in strength. As such, I believe that our eminent rivalry will be legendary!"

The Neti pointed at himself with his thumb, a gesture of declaration.

"Name's Pan," he greeted. "I'm gonna become the strongest man in the galaxy! What should I call you, purple warrior?"

Aadihr chuckled as Jack met pun with pun, both equally groan inducing to any third party.

"You live here?" he asked, his voice carrying a cautious curiosity. "Not on the ship?" He stared at the temple. “Tis a big home… you must be a lord.”

The chuckling continues a little more at the misunderstanding. "You'll understand with time, but..." To put this in a familiar context, Aadihr tried reframing the assumption, "If this is a lord's palace I am more of a guard, maybe. below an advisor but above a housekeeper." Aadihr hoped the feudal comparison landed.

But that hope finished quickly when he heard the sound of the snoring tree child from the library challenge the feral one to a duel
"I recognize your aura as equal to my own in strength. As such, I believe that our eminent rivalry will be legendary!"

It was too late for Aadihr to meaningfully interject, but futilely he responded "I hope you mean long term, steel sharpening steel type rivalry and not a brawl inside the temple..."

The Miraluka was fairly sure nobody heard that last bit, but he wasn't about to try to shout over and overstimulate the newcomer.

"The Temple is home to no Lord or Lady, young one... Well, we have our fair share of nobles and royals, but." Jack shrugged, adding with a mirthful smile. "There's only one 'Queen' we answer to."

Now another Padawan comes, boldly chllenging Kai'lyn to be his new rival. It was a day for initial introductions, wasn't it? Jack shook his head, smirking humouredly.

"Actually, perhaps one of you could help me." Or more specifically, the other kid could atop the crates, as Jack remained hovering protective and reassuring by the Togruta's side. "Don't suppose one of you have any spare robes about adolescent size while I guide Kai'lyn to my quarters?"

"I recognize your aura as equal to my own in strength. As such, I believe that our eminent rivalry will be legendary!"
Gone was the cautious little creature that hid behind Jack. In a moment or two, the speedy little thing bounded forward suddenly and moved faster than lightning as he pounced and tackled Pan Pan , sending them both tumbling before he moved to try and pin him to the ground with a snarl. It would seem he was rather avid in meeting a challenger head-on... at least one who proclaimed such so openly.

He moved to pin the tree down, baring his fangs in a vicious snarl, making no effort to hide the challenge in his eyes.

...Well that escalated faster than a Hutt and a Twi'lek.

Immediately catching up, Jack hurried over and worked to pry the upset Togruta away from the Padawan, hoisting Kai'lyn up by the shoulders and dragged him backwards. Speaking out over the animal snarls.

"Easy now." He hushed firmly in the boy's montrals, using the Force to placate the poor kid, a soothing motion brushing at the weak mental shields. "It's just banter, he didn't mean anything by it." All the while, embarrassed to admit he was struggling keeping Kai'lyn passive at least a little.

Pan, unlike the older Jedi around him, burst out laughing. He sounded jovial, like this was one of the greatest things to have ever happened in his life. He was seemingly very thrilled by the other boy's feral response, a wide grin on the Neti's face.

"And you're fast?" he laughed. "Boy, I can't wait to spar for real! I bet you got all kinds of tricks up your sleeves!"

He didn't make an effort to fight back yet, on account of no real damage being done. He was a tree after all, not susceptible to the same wounds a regular organic may face. Getting knocked down was no big deal. He just continued to laugh, thoroughly entertained by this brand new person he had found himself meeting.

"This is gonna be awesome."

His aura would make it very clear that there was no danger. It was roughhousing between children.

Benign. No ulterior motives.

Alright, maybe Aadihr should intervene. The tree kid was playing, but the Togrutan was absolutely ready to throw down.

Aadihr walked to the grappling duo, now a trio as Jack tried to pry the two youngsters free.

"Enough of that now, not in the temple!" Aadihr said with his best attempt at a Dad voice before using his unlit staff to lightly bonk each child atop the head - gently but jarringly - as if to display to the feral Togrutan and instigating tree-child that more force could be applied just as easily.

The bonk might not be helping

Aadihr admitted after the fact.

Instead he began to search for an angle to use the staff like a large prybar on the Togrutan child.

Kai'lyn was small, yes, but only in stature. His frame was wiry, all hardened muscle, compact and deceptive. There wasn't an ounce of softness to him. Every fiber was tuned for survival, and for combat. He weighed more than he looked, his body carved lean and sharp with no fat to speak of. Still, he was light enough that a full-grown man could, wrench him off the Neti child. But oh, did he make them work for it.

He twisted, kicked, thrashed. Every limb a weapon, every movement an attempt to worm free. They might've had better luck grabbing the back of his tunic's collar, the way one might snatch up a loth-cat mid-scrap, just to keep him from lunging again. Because that was exactly what he was doing—coiling to pounce. To reassert whatever his snarling little mind had decided was combative dominance against a perceived threat.

Aadhir's well-meaning bonk didn't help. In fact, it made things worse.

What little calm Jack's mental presence had managed to stir began to unravel. The storm surged back to life.

Before Aadhir could even reposition the stick, Kai'lyn's jaw clamped down on it with frightening force. Two rows of sharpened teeth sank deep into the wood, and his larger, more prominent fangs locked in with a crunch. His montrals twitched, and the head-tails on either side of his face curled inward at the tips like tensioned whips.

Then his skin lit up.

A wave of bioluminescence rippled over him, illuminating markings that pulsed across his body in sudden bursts of shifting color. The light moved in flashes, like a cuttlefish reacting to a predator, except this time, the predator was him.

Claws, long and honed, dug into the stick next. They scratched into it without hesitation, clawing at the surface while guttural, half-muffled snarls poured out from deep in his chest. He was a cornered creature. Wild and furious, and unwilling to go quietly. He oh so wanted to pounce back on Pan Pan and make him conceed defeat.

What in the Force...?

Despite the impressive display of a light show emanating from Kai'lyn's body, which Jack will have to look deeper into as soon as possible, the Jedi Knight opted for the same trick he tried on Mygeeto. That was, waving both his hands and Pulling the boy away from Aadhir's cane with as much using the Force, without doing harm, as possible.

Trying to suspend him in the air out of reach of the fellow Jedi, using more mental capabilities in an effort to make him calm down.

The bonk from Aadhir would more properly be categorized as a hollow thunk. He was made of wood after all, not flesh. It wasn't long before he watched the purple one drift away, to which Pan couldn't help but pout a little.

"Aw dang," he sighed. "I was about to do my grapple move. Oh well..."

The fire in the other boy's eyes excited him greatly. An urge to continue until the other admitted defeat. They were going to have a crazy battle some day, the Neti just knew it. He stood, brushing himself off with a sigh. There was admittedly a sadness about the entire ordeal.

"Sorry, purple dude," Pan shrugged. "The geezers said we can't fight here. We'll have to meet up some other time."

And what a glorious time that would be.

"I'm not a geezer!" The white haired, blind man carrying a walking stick said defensively.

Aadihr worked in tandem with Jack's force, using the clamped bite into the wooden facade of his pike to help push the feral child from a distance like a mancatcher.

"I think I underestimated how recently you picked this fella up." Aadihr shuffled backwards while holding the pike at a distance. "Should we just, like... Carry him like this to a room or something?"

"Yeah, my quarters... Aren't far..."

And begun their careful venture further towards the Temple entrance, keeping Kai'lyn levitated but out of arm's reach, Jack was leaving nothing to chance, carrying the poor, emotionally volatile kid.

But at least it made a spectacle for curious, passerby Jedi. Jack haphazardly smiled, calling out while keeping to Kai'lyn's right,
"Don't mind us, this is what we call a Thursday!"

Kailyn struggled and kicked the whole way, at least until Pan was out of sight. He drew a heavy breath and exhaled slowly, prying his claws from the staff one by one. At last, his sharp maw released the stick with great reluctance, leaving behind a trail of fresh bite marks that gave the shaft a bit of... character.

"I can walk," he muttered, barely more than a squeak, his voice tight and indignant. Being hauled around like a sack of potatoes clearly didn't sit well with him.

"I would've had him too… You shouldn't have interfered. Now he'll think he won."
