- Two adjustable curved wings, with two mounted control jets for sharp turns and complex maneuvers
- High-grade Chiss inertial compensators, for high performance piloting
- 4x Phantom-class Short-Range Sensor Jammer
- Very maneuverable craft, capable of sudden sharp turns and complex maneuvers with use of mounted control jets on adjustable curved wings.
- High-grade inertial compensators allow pilots to perform maneuvers with minimal strain.
- Boasts a good sensor disruption and targeting system.
- Very low armament, only two heavy maser cannons.
- Limited support options, with no explosive or ion capability.
- Limited field of view from within cockpit, causing reliance on sensor data for peripheral awareness.
- No hyperdrive, has to rely on transport craft to and from battle.
- Not as capable of advanced control jet maneuvers as the Nssis-Class Clawcraft, having only two curved wings and two control jets (compared to the usual four).
Given the cost of producing the more advanced Nssis-Class Clawcraft, the design and development of the Nssis-Class Fangcraft was the solution to compete with opponent's large, disposable squadron counts. The solution was to pull back the original specifications, see what could be adjusted, and ultimately create a new type of Nssis-Class fighter that was more readily produced and supplied to the Chiss Ascendancy and House Phalanxes as a whole.
Unlike other fleets, where pilot safety was seemingly disregarded, the Chiss Ascendancy instead focused on maintaining the standard shielding and maneuverability of the Clawcraft, preferring to remove the additional weaponry - as being able to both absorb and evade fire would result in more attack opportunities for a pilot who was living. Additionally, to further support the Chiss' preference on not wasting life, they included advanced sensor disrupting systems, to assist in giving their pilots as strong a battlefield advantage as possible.
Over the course of development, the Chiss manufacturers discovered that by removing the hyperdrive, they were able to fit additional components into the overall design. This included several transceivers for improved communications, given the reliance of the Fangcraft on transport vessels, as well as a tri-tracker system. The balance of being transported to battle, but having more awareness of the battlefield, seemed to please the Ruling Houses of the Ascendancy, and the final plans were approved, and moved into mass production.
All in all, the Nssis-Class Fangcraft is a low armament maser cannon mounted, but high maneuverability superiority starfighter, with respectable defenses and some additional sensor equipment in place of the hyperdrive.
