Rationale: After the Gulag plague there was a drop in the amount of people able to buy luxury or custom ships such as Nubia offers, Kurayami took much of his money from his time as a mercenary and bought a majority share of the company. After taking control of the company he cut prices and began offering stripped down versions of popular ship lines for competitive prices. Once the company was out of debt and was relatively stable once again the decision was made to start producing repulsor and atmospheric vehicles as well.
The decision was one that was a slow start and required careful management of the resources available to fulfill incoming custom orders in a timely fashion while maintaining the level of craftsmanship expected of Nubia Star Drives. Though it was slow to start going, as the company gained the needed funds they expanded their operation to build a dedicated vehicle assembly building. It's located near the starship hangars and assembly areas, so as to make the acquisition of parts faster and so that workers can be easily transferred to other projects in the case that extra hands are needed to finish up detail work on a nearly completed project. Even though operations have expanded slightly, the company is still located on Nubia in its entirety, it is possible in the future that they may seek out new locations so as to increase production capacity.

When Nubia Star Drives was hit by the Gulag Plague, it was hit hard. Much of the workforce was either killed from the infection or incapacitated for a long stretch of time. This alone hurt production and sales numbers, but what hurt even more was the loss of many wealthy customers. To stay in business they had to take out loans with multiple financial institutions. The quality of the products produced during this time was below their standard, but they had no choice but to decrease features and quality of non-vital systems so as to save what money they could. Profit was nearly non-existent at this point in time. Custom orders were still taken and fulfilled of course, and it was through these that the company was able to slowly pay off a large chunk of their debt.
As things started to look up the Netherworld event took place and they lost a massive chunk of customers again. Again the products were stripped of many features, but the quality was back to their old standards from pre-Gulag Plague. It was around this time that there were discussions of branching out into repulsor and atmospheric craft as well as their lines of starships. The idea was initially met with heavy resistance, but over time those who were wary came around and work started on a vehicle assembly plant only a short speeder hop away from the ship assembly buildings and hangars. This would allow for workers of either one of the buildings to be quickly assigned to help with finishing touches on nearly complete designs.
The company operates as a neutral entity, not swearing allegiance to any specific faction. They will accept contracts from any source and need only to know payment information and delivery location. Private data is stored on-site on a computer server that is not connected to any outside sources by any means, Kurayami is the only person in the company with access to the terminal, so as to provide customers with the highest possible level of information security. The company specializes, as they always have in unarmed, but fast, well shielded, and surprising maneuverable shuttles and other passenger craft, both for dignitaries and private markets. There are also differing models of repulsor and atmospheric craft for open market purchase. The starships are still on a per order basis and Nubia knows that their customers expect a unique design, so for most starship designs they are either one offs or very limited production runs. No customer is turned away, though Nubia reserves the right to remove any weapon emplacements from the designs submitted by a customer as it does not fit within their design philosophy.
