The Tallises are not your stereotypical Zeltrons. They live on Coruscant and have a family tradition of serving in law enforcement. That path was laid out for Nykoria and her older siblings from an early age.
Kori's parents did their best to prepare her for pursuing that career eventually. Her father even used his connections to hide his daughter's unusually high midichlorian count. That part was struck out of the record and family's discussions.
When Nykoria reached the appropriate age, she enrolled at the Coruscant Security Force Academy as a cadet. Pre-academy training paid off, putting the Zeltron among the best students. And thanks to her empathy, pheromones, and looks, Kori became the heart and soul of any party. She was definitely no wallflower.
However, the Zeltron was keeping a secret—her success was not entirely her own. One of the subjects she was most successful at was forensics. But this didn't come from studies. When looking at or touching an object, Kori could occasionally experience and relive the memories and emotions related to the object. She never told anyone about that, afraid of becoming laughing stock.
But the secret could only remain that way for so long. One day, the cadets were shown a knife of a serial killer. Upon merely seeing it, Kori had a seizure. Eyes closed, she yelled and begged for her life. The experience was more vivid than anything before, probably due to the long and bloody history of the weapon.
The Zeltron only came to when her head hit the floor. She could feel the concern of her teacher and some of the peers. But there was also contempt and malicious joy—seeing the "poster girl" of the class losing it like that.
As rumors and suspicions spread, Kori found it harder and harder to attend classes. For someone who was used to sensing admiration, being exposed to this new spectrum of unpleasant emotions was traumatic. Despite the support of some of her peers, Kori became more distant and reclusive, trying to avoid large crowds.
Medical and psychiatric examinations turned up nothing. Psychometry was too a rare thing to be easily suspected, so Kori wasn't tested for midichlorians, and nobody thought of involving the Jedi.
In the end, the Zeltron was discharged from the academy "at her own request". With the always-intended path seemingly closed for her, Kori now found herself at the crossroads. Sometimes the abundance of options seems like "no options at all". She only knows one thing: she is a Tallis, so she's not going to become some barmaid or dancer... -
+ Wrong girl to mess with. With training from both her parents and the Coruscant Security Force Academy, Kori knows how to handle herself. She can fight, shoot, drive a swoop or speeder, and is in good physical shape. However, her knowledge of spaceship piloting is mostly theoretical, and mechanical knowledge is next to non-existent.
+ Zeltron: Be very jealous. A Zeltron can experience your emotions amplified, and project their own onto you. They can wriggle into your favor with powerful pheromones that make them more likeable. Thanks to the second liver, a Zeltron will most likely outdrink you in a bar. To top it off, they can remain in excellent physical shape, even if they eat junk food with the appetite of a rancor.
+ Psychometry: I know what happened here! This rare innate Force ability allows its user to experience past events and emotions associated with the object that the user touches. It is usually described as "an echo in the Force from an object". It's by no means "perfect clairvoyance", especially for the untrained.
+/- Let's have some pun! Quick wits and a sharp tongue are a sparkling mixture. Nykoria employs that mixture often: to make friends, to lighten the mood, or to hide her own insecurities behind a confident facade. That may happen even at inappropriate times. But you'll either love it, or hate it.
- Psychometry: I didn't need to know that! A rare ability is well and good... If you can control it. Kori can't. Touching an object or even arriving to a place might trigger a vision or a painful seizure. Especially if that object or place witnessed something great or terrible.
- Zeltron: I just want to be respected and loved. Being a Zeltron is not without drawbacks. "Easy mark" and "idle hedonist" are the least insulting stereotypes you'd be dealing with. Some people only see your looks and empathy, and treat you a certain way. And when you feel everyone else's emotions, not only do you feel the good, but also the bad, and the ugly. You become dependent on other people's emotions and their attitude to you.
- In hindsight, that might've been a bad idea. The heart comes before the mind. Nykoria is prone to acting rashly or making emotional decisions and statements that she'll most likely regret in the long run. -
Kori is of average height and weight, coupled with athletic build. Being a Zeltron, her skin is purple and shifts towards darker and redder hues when she is flustered.
The dark blue eyes are usually piercing and inquisitive, but can adopt a playful glint when Kori gets out of her shell, or is with the people she trusts.
Nykoria's indigo hair is dark, bordering on black. It has grown longer than shoulder length since the Academy time, so now Kori usually wears it in a bun or a ponytail behind her.
She prefers pilot-style casual clothes: jackets (leather or otherwise); tank tops or rugged shirts; jeans or cargo pants of similar style. -
- Sporting blaster. Kori was gifted this Defender-5 pistol when she grew old enough to be legally allowed to own a blaster. The main reason for going with this particular blaster was its stun setting.
- Stun baton. Before Kori was allowed to own a blaster, she'd still need to defend herself while traversing the middle levels of Coruscant. That stun baton did the job just fine; Kori kept it even after she started graduating to ranged weaponry.
- Flare-S Swoop Bike. Kori inherited a used black swoop bike from her older brother. He had left Coruscant to seek a job elsewhere, and Nykoria could use a vehicle to get around. She used it to travel home during academy breaks. Alas, Kori wasn't as much of a gearhead as her brother, so the swoop's condition isn't perfect.
