SPECIAL FEATURES
- Modular frame: Because of how it is build, the frame can be adjusted in both height and width with a wide variety of adjustments to be made in terms of changing the length of the limbs, the torso and even exchanging full body parts when necessary, allowing for this frame to be able to be used in a wide variety of droid designs.
- Standard issue Auxilary Droid Brain: The implementation of the Proton Mk I auxiliary droid brain means that most of the mechanical and basal functions of the droid can be separated from the main droid brain/AI system running the droid, allowing for the eventual droid designs to be more capable in terms of multitasking, autofunctioning and rapid responses. This would also mean that when the AI or primary droid brain is damaged, incapacitated or compromised, as long as the Proton Droid brain is active, basic functions can be maintained. The Proton Mk I also delivers a larger memory capacity for any AI.
- Highly resistent: The Epsylon-type MDF is to be considered a very robust design and though the frame itself is relatively average in both size and weight, it still possesses great resistances against blaster fire, Kinetic weapons and EMP thanks to the addition of the fyrirdögun protective plating around the most important internal components, which would make this a very good standard droid frame for many military or civilian applications.
- Robust Design: The Epsylon-Type MDF has been set to a higher degree of quality control and has as such managed to give the idea of being sturdy, yet also flexible, two very important characteristics for its goal of being a modular frame, for as any droid's frame, this acts as the skeleton, the very core of a droid's body and is thus responsible for the movement and motoric functions of any droid.
- Guarantee of function: Unlike most droids where the droid becomes nothing more than a heap of useless metal when the AI or primary droid brain is compromised, the use of the proton Mk I auxilary brain allows for further basic functionality even when the AI is compromised or even absent from the machine.
- Heat and Acid: Due to the choice of materials not totally cancelling eachother out, the Epsylon Droid Frame has little to no protection to extreme heat and acidic properties of materials, which does limit the frame for use in construction and heavy labor droids, which are generally expected to be used in certain conditions which do have encounters with acidic material and extreme heat.
- Limitations to Modularity: While the Epsylon-type MDF can be seen as extremely modular, it still has its limitations, such as the fact that it can't be used for non-humanoid designs, forcing that at least 50% of the design is humanoid in nature (since the legs and arms can be swapped out, but the torso can only be slightly resized.)
With the passing years, the use of the old Zeta Type Modular Droid Frame has come to a halt, forcing the N&Z engineers to look for their new frames elsewhere or come up with a proper replacement. Whereas the old droid frames were heavy and bulky, the engineers from Zakuul Engineering; one of the N&Z Umbrella Corporation's subsidiaries have managed to simply scale down the old frame, shift some of its framework and altered some of its functions to better fit the modular idea they had in mind. The endresult of this work has become visible in the new Epsylon MDF-A design, which relies more on internal plating and covering over vital points and internals rather than simply casting everything in larger formats.
The sleeker and more compact design has allowed for the frame to be considerably lighter and smaller than that of the old designs, with the added bonus of a much higher resistance against things such as blaster fire and EMP, combined with a robust structure and improved structural integrity, and ofcourse the implementation of the Proton Mk I Auxiliary droid brain, this new modular type promises better performance in the field and a surprisingly lower cost.
Downsides are that despite the much better performing frame itself, the lighter and sleeker construction does mean several of its protections have been lowered, mainly in terms of acidic material and extreme heat, making the droid frame less appealing for use in hard labor and construction droids. However, it still holds enough functionality and incredible variety in terms of defenses that it is perfectly suited for military and civilian use and by extension the droid designs that serve either of those two purposes.
