- Combined explosive and incendiary mixture
- Hollow tube contruction for better displacement of explosive, volatile gel and lighter weight
- Reinforced durasteel tip for better weight distribution and reliable payload delivery
- Grooved tip for higher aerial velocity
- Small Projectile: Though it is generally seen as a disadvantage in many cases, in the RP-2SB's case, small also means easier to be reloaded, easier to carry and needing much less space to stockpile.
- Double effect: The RP-2SB has the distinct unique position as a projectile with not one, but two after effects. Loaded with a small Baradium charge, the projectile explodes upon impact, though it's actual stopping power is rather low, it is aided by the secondary effect of its volatile gel, which as an incendiary could in actuality greatly increase the area of effect if not treated properly and ofcourse depending on the amount of flammable material in the vicinity.
- Small area of effect: Due to the light baradium charge, the projectile's effective primary area of effect is rather small, making it necessary to be used more as a projectile used in great numbers to truly have a large effect [not counting in the variables in regards to the incendiary gel]
- Volatile gel: As the projectile carries a volatile, chemical gel to act as an incendiary, it has to be handled with care, but even so is also dangerous when it is hit by enemy fire, as any slugs, thermal detonators and other heat-based or solid projectiles may set off the volatile gel and the baradium charge in toe prematurely.
The NZ RP-2SB was designed as a mass produced, cheap projectile with great effect when used in large numbers. The idea was to have a projectile which was small enough to be carried in greater numbers and loaded more easily than other conventional projectiles. The eventual design of the dual purpose as both an explosive and an incendiary projectile was approved when designs for a rapid movement, missile launcher tank were being drawn up, as this design as a dual purpose projectile would enhance the coming tank design's effectiveness.
