First Reply Observations On Opulence

The eternally busy streets of Efavan were trafficked by just about every sort of Human, alien, and droid imaginable. Most of whom stood out far more than the red-robed Duros who could be seen standing at the edge of a small public plaza. This particular plaza was one of many in the city, but was distinct in that it had a large water fountain in the shape of a Jedi Knight as its central feature. The red-robed Duros held nothing but a silent contempt for it. This was a natural reaction for him, considering that he was after all a Sith Lord.

This Duros Sith went by the name Darth Exter and in truth, was not really “there” at the plaza at all. The figure standing in the plaza was nothing but an “avatar” created through The Force by the real Darth Exter. The Sith Lord’s actual body was trapped in the realm of Hyperspace, meaning that this avatar was his only method of interacting with the “normal” world.

On this particular day, Darth Exter was simply observing the denizens of the city without any particular goal in mind, except perhaps to gain some sort of insight into the nature of sentient beings. His paused lifespan certainly meant that he had the time to simply people-watch when he felt like it. So far, he had overheard that the planet he was on, Vorzyd V, was now situated directly between the territories of two expansionist states. But despite that, nobody seemed to be even remotely concerned. They simply ignored it in favor of continuing their hedonistic pursuits, as if nothing was wrong. Exter half-seriously wondered to himself if even a full-blown invasion would get these people to stop their revelry.

Speaking out loud, Exter said “Would these people continue to fiddle even if their city burned?”

Ah, Vorzyd V. A place where one could simply get lost in the crowds while looking for any number of items. On this particular day, Varynx was wandering around the plaza searching for materials he could use for any number of tasks: sorcery, lightsaber repair, cooking - people need to eat, don't judge.

Regardless, as he was looking at a stall, he overheard someone mentioning the city burning down. I mean, Varynx certainly thought that'd be entertaining but more so if he took part in it. He looked around to see if he could spot who it was that mentioned it before he spotted a Duros in a red cloak. He could feel them in the force but was confused why he didn't feel as... "present" as everyone else here. He approached the Duros before deciding to find out things for himself.

"Who knows, my guess would be they would actually take notice of things and begin to panic."

When he spoke, Darth Exter had not been expected that anyone would pay his words much attention, let alone actually respond. But to his mild surprise, he heard a nearby voice say:

"Who knows, my guess would be they would actually take notice of things and begin to panic."

The Duros Sith turned in the direction he had heard the response coming from, and saw a pale Human (or perhaps near-human) man. This man was a few inches taller than he was, and had an odd diamond marking in the center of his forehead. While Exter was unfortunately unable to use The Force through his avatar, he did not need it to tell that this man was attuned to the Dark, thanks to the golden glow of his eyes.

In response the man’s prediction about the people of the city taking notice if it burned, Exter gave a slight laugh, and said
“Yes, I suppose that they would. People tend to react the strongest to threats they can easily see with their own eyes after all. Even when those threats are not the greatest source of danger. But I imagine you must be well-aware of the powers of unseen danger.”

Varynx, in turn, let out a chuckle at the Duros' words. Indeed, his words held truth, which is why it was fun to hurt people through non-physical means; sends more of an impact in the end.

"I don't believe we have been introduced: I am Darth Varynx, a pleasure to be in the presence of another such as yourself."

It was no lie. This Duros was like a breath of fresh air, being able to talk to a like-minded individual, without being on the lookout for them attempting to kill you. However, Varynx couldn't help but feel there was something off about this Duros, something both dark... and yet, oh-so incredible. Varynx wouldn't be surprise if there was knowledge he could gain from the alien in front of him... so that's what he'll get.

"I don't believe we have been introduced: I am Darth Varynx, a pleasure to be in the presence of another such as yourself."

So, this man was no mere dark warlock or Knight of Ren. Assuming he was not lying about his title, Darth Varynx was a full Sith Lord, like Exter. If he had been a mere imitator of the Sith Way, that would have been rather disappointing to the Duros Sith. Sith Wannabes were all to common these days.

“I am pleased to meet you in turn. I am Darth Exter, last in the lineage of the great Darth Bane.” Exter said. It was entirely possible that Varynx had heard of him as a historical figure at some point, but it was far from a guaranteed fact. During his Sith Apprenticeship, Exter had not exactly been given a chance to make waves in Galactic History before his banishment. Even If he had not heard of him, Exter was certain that Varynx would certainly recognize the name Darth Bane.

Exter was also curious about the Sith line that Varynx came from. His attempts to learn more about the Sith Order that had risen in the Galaxy since his banishment had been largely unsuccessful.
“I presume that you are a Sith of the new Sith Order?” Exter questioned, introducing the topic.

OOC: I’m sorry that I took almost an entire month to respond to this. That’s on me, and I get it if you aren’t interested in continuing this thread.

So, he was of the lineage of Darth Bane? That certainly interested Varynx. That was a time ago, which made him all the more curious as to how he was here.

"You presume correctly. I am sorry to say but your lineage in the 'Rule of Two' ideology has been abandoned. The traditional style of a Sith Empire has risen instead. For the best, in my opinion. The Rule of Two is flawed in its execution"

Varynx had heard of the Sith rule of two and he must say, he found the idea brilliant, a Sith passing all knowledge onto another so only the strongest is alive. It was similar to his own desire. However, in practice, he knew it was foolish. If one died before finding an apprentice, there goes the Sith.

Rather, if many learned, but only one was taught everything, the Sith would not fear dying out, and all knowledge is possessed by the most powerful.

The end of the Rule of Two was not a terribly surprising development in Darth Exter’s eyes.
“A logical conclusion. The Rule of Two was designed for secrecy during a time where our enemies dominated the Galaxy. In this new era of… chaos, limitation to two Sith Lords would function mostly as a constraint.” he mused. In the back of his mind, Exter did wonder if it was possible that a splinter branch of Banite Sith existed without the knowledge of the Sith Empire. But even if one did, he doubted it would be of much consequence. At least, not in comparison to the new Sith Empire.

Exter had plenty of questions about the state of the new Sith Empire. At the top of the list was the nature of its leadership. “For a nation-state to be successful, it must have a strong leader at the helm to provide a vision for it. Does the New Empire have this?” he asked. How Varynx answered this question would guide quite a bit of how Exter approached the Empire. If it had a single central authority, it could prove to be a useful ally in implementing his vision for the Galaxy. But if it was governed by a council of oligarchs or (shudder) democratic process, then he would have no choice but to put the heretics out of their collective misery at some point down the road.

"For a nation-state to be successful, it must have a strong leader at the helm to provide a vision for it. Does the New Empire have this?"

"Yes, fret not. I can't say I'm the most up to date regarding our current leadership, but I can assure you we have an Emperor at the top of our Order. Although, I must say that a downside of having more Sith is that you're more likely to have to search for knowledge and power across the galaxy, rather than having all Sith knowledge taught to you... Maybe you can tell me how you're here. If you are the last of Darth Bane's lineage, you shouldn't still be around in the galaxy. Care to share?"

He was truly curious. Eternal life is something all Sith crave for, so even if he can't access it, what Sith wouldn't want to learn that secret? Knowledge is power, and knowledge can be gifted or extorted. Even so, learning any and all knowledge he can, so he could pass it on to an apprentice to learn one day...
