An incredibly rare sight, Odion Black was a chaplain with the One Sith Army. He would frequently make trips to deployed troops and lead them in prayer, as well as offer confidential counseling. He treated each servicemember as if they were his own child, despite his intimidating appearance. However, he was pulled from the field after a group of Galactic Republic commandos launched a preemptive attack on a group of assembled soldiers. Black was treated for injuries sustained in his leg from shrapnel from a thermal detonator. Others weren't as fortunate - the experience changed Black. While he supported the mission of the One Sith, his dedication to the cause wavered as he turned to pacifism. He never returned to the field. After resigning his commission, he moved to the fourth level of Coruscant until the collapse of the One Sith's empire following their swift defeat at their capital to the Galactic Alliance. Hearing of a migrant fleet of One Sith military fleeing the Core, he felt compelled to join them after much contemplation and reevaluation of his stances.
Allowed to continue his mission as a chaplain, he worked to do what he could to heal the beaten and battered soldiers of the One Sith remnants spiritually. Prayer and counselling again found it's way into the military. Following the Crossbones Conflict, he was forced to abdicate what he's known his entire military career, as he was reassigned to a star destroyer as it's tactical action officer.
Odion Black was one of the lucky ones, though at the time he didn't see it. Selected to serve in the higher echelons of Iron Imperial Command, he was chosen for his notable absence of command from a naval vessel. Then-Lieutenant Commander Black was plucked from the herd to serve as Mant's tactical action officer aboard the ISV Retribution, despite not having any combat experience at all. Why he was chosen remains a mystery to present day. At first, his performance was miserable. The enlisted personnel had taken a liking to him though, noting his down to earth personality. He had seen many of them in the past as well during his time as a headquarters chaplain.
However, after some time, Odion managed to become not just a man of the people, but a naval officer that became exceedingly proficient in his duties. He was then tapped for promotion to Staff Commander, where he served as the executive officer of the ISV Retribution, as Rear Admiral Mant's right hand. As Mant climbed the ranks, so did Black. The two have come to form an efficient and effective team at the helm of the Retribution, Battlegroup Gryphon, and now the entirety of the Iron Imperial Navy.
