Act I: Becoming a Red Lady
Remember what you have forgotten so long ago, child...
Oeana has lived the past ten years building her career with the Red Lady. She began her career at the lowest levels. She cleaned and scrubbed after others, curious as to what it was they did. A quick study, she took to her lessons well and progressed. Oeana could, as Asteria had noticed after a brief while, able to read clients whether they were the lowest scum to the highest clientele and could transform herself to suit them. The first time she had met her employer when she had been brought to her, sold on Spira to the company. It was her ability to read what Asteria had wanted even back then, without exchanging many words that made the blonde take her, put her to work in a job with plenty of prospects, provided she would work hard. And she worked hard. She would believe that it was Asteria named her Oeana too, remembering fragments of memories from before that time.
Frail old woman, aged by life and not time. She hated her.
In time, she was given the last name Janin, as one of her rewards when she had become an Escort, allowing her to leave the Red Lady with esteemed clients. There was a time when Oeana found herself developing feelings for a Red Gent, and he for her. It had been a sweet and happy time, allowing her to better comprehend the human condition but while his feelings were strong, Oeana spent more and more time with Asteria, educated and trained personally by the Sith Lady. The more time she spent with the cold woman, the more Oeana was reminded that love was a flawed concept that disturbed the life of Red Lady. The more time she trained, the more the girl with violet eyes dreamed.
She remembered. So when the time came to progress or remain with the man claiming to love her, she didn't hesitate - leaving him beneath her.
Love destroyed so many lives, a voice in the night would remind her. Except, the more Oeana heard the voice with flashes and images flooding her dreams, the more she knew. It was her.
It had been a few years that Oeana had worked directly under Lady deWinter, becoming the second of the entire Red Lady hierarchy. While still Red Lady and thus kept clients, she was elevated, a personal assistant to the woman. Her price became higher, her clients only came out of Oeana's personal choice or that of her Lady. Meanwhile, Oeana recalled more of the life she dreamt about.
Just mother and her, a bitter old woman and a scared child, she feared the wrath of the woman that had lost all.
Act II: Death of Two Men
Your Father destroyed a family.
He destroyed your Mother.
He had abused your sister.
Your sister saved you from the monster.
She was not safe from him.
The stronger she became within the Force, the more she could see, pierce together. The words in the dream, spoken with her own voice came with images flashes. Like the memory of an angry mother calling her worthless, blaming her for the position she had been placed, causing her to fear the woman growing up. She'd been left alone with her, everyone else had either died or abandoned her, Oeana realized as she was putting the memories together into a datapad. When she had asked Asteria soon after if there was a way for her to remember, the blonde woman offered a good question: "Why would you want to remember?" She understood the purpose of the question, being aware of the other woman's history and life yet for Oeana the desire to know what she couldn't remember was far stronger. "I must know," her answer had come. Asteria would respect her decision, furthering her training from then on. It was a funny thing, words. Lady deWinter had called her a quick study more than once since they began their training. The first time it was when they had just started which Oeana had assumed was much like her picking up other skills. The second time she had spoken the words, after having knighted her, and this time Oeana couldn't help but wonder their meaning. "You learn a lot of this as if you've learned them before," Asteria had said. "Or as something I have forgotten," Oeana had responded without thinking about it at all.
Such words prompted Asteria to walk through Oeana's dreams. There was much chaos within those dreams, she noted, images and sounds breaking through. Screams, pain, laughter; all messed up together, nothing seemingly popping out. Until she'd come face to face with Oeana, who seemed stronger and different.
"Was it so wrong to want to forget?" The Oeana in the dream had wondered,
"To begin again." Violet stared into the emerald gaze, two equals facing each other, Asteria had come to realize.
It was that night that Oeana had dreamed something important.
The monster murdered the Father that should have been, the image flashed before her eyes. She became aware of the other girl present, and the eyes of the woman she was watching it through. When she awoke, she knew that that memory was not hers at all. It had been
stolen. That word had seemed so fitting, even when Oeana wasn't sure what it had meant.
Stolen. Perfectly fitting, forgotten, and yet aware. That was when Oeana reached to an old friend, seeking company in his bed. Just for a while, she had wanted to keep the dreams, or even the truth hidden for a little while longer...
For a brief while, the dreams had stopped, the voice had discontinued to haunt her. Whatever she had been meant to discover grew quiet, far away. Oeana was pleased by this, allowing her to return to her daily duties alongside Lady deWinter, her training as well. The new Red Lady, as Asteria sometimes referred to it was growing. They were putting together plans for expansions, new sites, new contracts. The business empire would grow and the woman would stand next to Asteria as it grew. It was the life she had once loved, the only love she had needed because it had given her a power she hadn't originally had. Lost, alone, weak, Oeana craved power. Asteria had given her all this. She was no longer alone, she was growing stronger with each new power taught. She desired to know more, to desired more power. It was strange but the more she was given, the more the woman wished to know, to be able to achieve. Under Asteria's guidance, Oeana would become a Master in her own right, skilled, and able to both defend herself and exert power. The dreams seemed further away now as she grew stronger, they no longer interrupted her nights. Except, the more time passed without them, the more she wanted to know. Her curiosity would lead the woman to seek further trainers, who would help her tap into other powers, and Oeana soon began to meditate, a skill that came to her easier than expected.
Act III: Mother Dearest
Whereas the first meditation invoked a calming of the soul, centering herself and grounding more than any other technique had allowed her; further on, she sought memories inside her mind. Locked, hidden memories. The first time she had achieved it, she had discovered a little girl's happy laughter, joy above all else. Oeana couldn't recall ever feeling like that in all the memories she had in this life. She felt loved and happy, safe. Nothing in the previous memories has given her that impression, not in the slightest. Her narrated dreams led her to believe she had lived a life of horror once, terrified and running for her life. Perhaps that could have explained why she couldn't remember anything before Spira, why she had no recollection of a life before the Red Lady. It should have but the feelings of peace and love that flooded her then changed everything; made her further curious on the life she had once led.
"He was brave, your Father. He had served the Order well. And he was always kind to us," she heard the voice through the fog, recognizing it to belong to her Mother's. She sounded loving and gentle, protective. So why had she dreamt of a Mother that scared her? Why had she made herself believe something different?
Unless the woman from her other memories wasn't her Mother at all, Oeana had concluded one day.
It was when Asteria had summoned her to Eve, when a new establishment for the Red Lady started its construction. Oeana went, eager to work, somewhat eager to tell Asteria about her discovery. Yet, when she came there, their focus on something else entirely - on work; and the two marched forward as they had always, ensuring every aspect of the project was perfectly executed. No one within the Red Lady truly knew how and what Asteria wanted except for Oeana, who had grown to know her so well, which was why her Lady preferred her at her side.
When the work was done, Oeana would still retire to meditade, discovering new images of her life, to learn more about herself. More flashes and images came, some still confusing and some clear as day. She could recall her training with her Mother, she could recall their life together, just the two of them. She was
safe,
protected,
trained,
loved. She lacked for nothing. And then she was alone, all by herself.
Angry, feeling
abandoned. The emotions flooding her then confused her, surprised her.
"She was jealous and vindictive. She sought to destroy my happiness, our happiness. She killed them both," through the images her Mother's voice came and in the moment, the meditation broke as Oeana opened her eyes, remembered.
"Anesia." The word has rolled off her tongue, like she had always known the name, the person.
