STRENGTHS
- NO PILOTS IN DANGER: The primary advantage of an unmanned Starfighter/Drone is that no sentient is put in danger. This also means that an O.R.C.A.(unless otherwise ordered) can fight until its (or your) complete destruction. Damage means nothing, these will fight until it literally cannot.
- CAPABLE OF LONGER OPERATIONS: No pilots means no need for rest and can stay out longer on longer reconnaissance runs and combat missions.
- S.E.R.A.P.H.I.M.: Constant uplink to the fleet AI is an advantage because constant and faster relays of information and orders enable a more efficient operation.
- A.R.C.A.N.E.: The problem with droidbrains is that they can develop personalities and just like any other, personalities can clash, if there are two on one ship, it can happen(just look at the Millenium Falcon. The O.R.C.A. does not have that problem, the AI is built into the system and is coded with similar principles to S.E.R.A.P.H.I.M.
- NOTHING BEATS THE SENTIENT BEHIND THE STICK: The "ARTIMUS" is a very efficient and capable reconnaissance drone. The droidbrains will follow their orders to a "T" but that can often lead to trouble when improvisation is necessary. The capabilities just aren't necessarily there.
- DEFENSIVE DOESN'T MEAN BULWARK: The Adamant has substantial firepower, and can hold out against ordinance thanks to the FALANKS, but if you manage to target with cannons, you have an advantage. The operative is indeed "if" but that doesn't mean it is impossible.
- CAN BE HACKED: While it is not easy to do so, the Artimus does not have a cognitive pilot paying attention to any slicing into the systems. The Droidbrains are more than capable, but slicing is not impossible.
- STILL EXPENSIVE: Part of the purpose of buiding the UCAS Line was to put less and less pilots in danger, if anything they could be remote controlled, but these drones are still proving more expensive to build, repair, and maintain.
The O.R.C.A. is a large unmanned starcraft developed by Guardian Authority Ltd. as part of the Unmanned Combat Air System (UCAS) Carrier Demonstration program and initiative that Admiral Angellus is spearheading. True, he was not tasked with this, but he is using company funds and resources to do so. No loss on the resources of the Galactic Alliance. The O.R.C.A. follows a very similar design to previous models, but is being created for more "definitive" combat.
Since the A.R.T.E.M.I.S. was used to demonstrate the first-ever carrier-based launches and recoveries by a relevant, low-observable, unmanned autonomous starcraft, there has been a call for more and more unmanned capabilities. This is only the latest with the O.R.C.A., designed initially on the highly successful FI-75 Super-Angel frame, the gunship is highly powdered and few in number but designed for tactical retreats.
