The Lord Ollis of the Barrans of Foslane appears to be, in some ways, a walking contradiction—at least so far as expectations are concerned. While he shows the same capacity for reckless abandon and wanton rambunctiosness as his kinsmen amongst the Woads and Tuaths of Galidraan III, and is considered quite the animal when making either war or merriment, amongst those closest to him in his family he's long been thought to be one of the most reserved (at least, for a Woad).
In contrast to his slightly-younger cousin, DECEASED Erskine Barran , Ollis is known for his more serious temperament at most times, with a penchant for understatement and an unwillingness to waste words that is rivaled by few within their family. However, this seriousness is not without warrant, as unlike his cousin, during their exile Ollis did not have access to a wide network of subordinates and allies to function with, instead gathering together a close-knit band of supporters and conducting raids along the Sith border systems over the span of years, happy to dole out accolades and promotiosn for every victory, but holding himself personally responsible for each defeat, and silently bearing the grief of every loss while striving to keep his band alive as long as possible. In contrast to the days of his youth, where he was known more for his brash, upbeat demeanour, very similar to his noble father, age and experience have made him stern and demanding, but still with a deep sense for what is fair and just...and he is no less loud than he'd ever been before.
In battle, however, there yet remain none among his family that can rival his fervor and rage; once Ollis himself is drawn into the fray, everything else falls away but for the singular need to break his foes, to drive them before him and carry his lads into either victory or escape. He fights with the same stubbornness and determination that carries him through the rest of his life, all thoughts of self-preservation swept away in the name of protecting those he cares about and seeing his goals achieved.
Yet, as soon as they're off the battlefield and in the mess hall or cantina, the heavily reserved noble warrior has no qualms making merry with the rest of his men, and showing the deep affection and admiration he has for each of them, in which they rival his own blood for how great a share of it they receive.
Final note: It has been reported by his subordinates to be quite unwise to rouse him early from his slumber. "Like poking a bear," they've described it.
Operational Record:
[EARLY BIOGRAPHICAL RECORDS REDACTED PER ORDER OF THE IMPERIAL GOVERNOR OF GALIDRAAN]
And so, exiled from his home and stripped of official recognition or belongings, Ollis and the remnants of his clansmen and household to escape the attempted purge fled beyond Sith borders to regroup. It didn't take long for them to establish themselves as a notable pirate band, or "border reivers" as they preferred to be called, travelling in a small convoy of stolen ships and with an ever-rotating armoury of looted weapons levying attacks against Sith-Imperial military stations, bases, and convoys, or at times raiding civilian locations as necessary for supplies, though they did achieve an at least more-positive-than-most reputation for minimizing any civilian casualties to minor wounds and stun blasts, unlike some of their contemporaries. This group, which eventually became known as "The Lord Barran's Hobelars" due to their emphasis on hit-and-run tactics, functioning alternately as a light cavalry or mounted infantry (inasmuch as any irregular force could be said to have such a defined role), also distinguished themselves in helping refugees escape, or providing distractions to disguise the undercover activities of any Jedi, Outer Planets Alliance, or Galactic Alliance personnel rooting about in the region.
Update: Eventually, with the rise of the New Imperial Order, Ollis and his band rerouted themselves to the galactic north, striking out along the eastern border of Sith-Imperial space as they made their way up to where they could be of aid to the NIO, though without providing any direct sign of their allegiance; however, with the conclusion of the civil war and the restoration of Galidraan's sovereignty, they hid their allegiance no longer, with Ollis himself managing to reconnect lines of communications with his cousin that had been severed due to their exile years before, earning an independent seat of power from his cousin and official recognition as the chief of his own branch-family, the Barrans of Foslane, in the aftermath of the years of fighting himself and his cousin had undergone; though, having spent so long at it, it appears that neither has yet found the ability to escape the ever-present wars around them.
Editor's Note: The early biographical records of the Lord Ollis Barran of Foslane appear to be unrecoverable; while there are accounts that corroborate both his and his cousin's stories of his youth, including his parentage being Brennan Barran, the younger sibling of the previous chief of Clan Barran, it seems that, after attempting to purge Ollis's branch of the family out of fear that another Barran might rise to take Erskine's then-vacant place and take arms against the Sith, they thought it best to edit his own history for him to deny him any legitimacy in his claims of heritage and the like; indeed, though the accounts that corroborate his own autobiographical interviews exist, the names have been edited, and Ollis himself was struck out of the census records entirely. It's no wonder he had to resort to the life of a brigand just to get by, especially given the obvious grudge he would hold against those who were doing everything in their power to take his life away from him.
