OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: The Olympus Orbital Defense system was created to support the defense of a planet against enemy invasion.
  • Canon Link: N/A
  • Permissions: N/A
  • Primary Source: N/A
PRODUCTION INFORMATION
  • Manufacturer: Dynetech Industries
  • Affiliation: Illyria, The Confederacy {Closed-Market}
  • Model: Olympus-Class Satellite
  • Modularity: No
  • Production: Limited
  • Material: Durasteel Casing, Electronics, Isotope-5 Power core
SPECIAL FEATURES
STRENGTHS
  • Advanced Sensor Tracking: These satellites are outfitted with a very proficient sensor kit that allows them to effectively scan and detect any vessels that enter their system. The satellite packs are outfitted with advanced motion tracking kits that allow them to give real-time displays of enemy movements, maneuvers, and dimensional readouts.
  • Self-Destruct Mode: In the event one of these satellites is captured or an enemy ship drifts too close to it, the satellite is caapble of detonating it's high-powered Isotope-5 energy cell and deal damage to any ship within proximity of it.
  • EMP Hardened: The durasteel casing was magnetically sealed and reinforced to be resistant to EMP/ION attacks. Although these attacks can wreak havoc on the satellite if they sustain enough damage, it takes a considerable strike to cause the satellite's systems to fail.
  • Defense web: The satellite is capable of projecting massive Molecular deflector shields, which enemy ships can use as a kind of shield-wall. Along with their deflector shields they are also outfitted with a point-laser defense weapon that is capable of targeting small projectiles and missiles to disable them. The weapon is in-capable of manual targeting and is only programmed to target small, fast-moving weaponry.
WEAKNESSES
  • No long-range weaponry: Although the satellite is capable of detonating it's Isotope-5 core, it is not able to attack any vessels outside of a close proximity. This means the satellite can be targeted by long-range weaponry to be disabled.
  • Sensor Scrambler: When faced with Nightshadow, Reflec, or sensor baffling technology the satellite can be thrown off and it's systems will be less-reactive and may not read certain things, depending on the competence of the baffletech being used against it.
  • Immobile: After deployment, these satellite are incapable of any serious movement. It had a set of thrust-boosters to keep it from entering a planet's atmosphere, however it can only maneuver a few meters at a time.
DESCRIPTION
The Olympus Orbital Defense Satellite system was designed to inhibit the chances of planetary invasion. The first line of defense is the advanced long-range sensor kit that can detect vessels approaching the system via Hypertravel. Although the sensor alarms only allow for a notice a few minutes before the ship would exit into real-space it does help to offer some preparation from unwanted ships. The satellites use an IFF system to identify unregistered warships that may be entering the system. Along with working as a long-range sensor, the satellite is also able to work as a remote/auto detonated space mine. The isotope-5 energy cell that is used can be detonated through the satellites automated IFF system or remotely by any authorized user in the satellite defense network. The Olympus satellites are hardened to defend against EMP bursts and ION weaponry, however sustained damage from can still affect the sensor package and defense weaponry. Each satellite is outfitted with a gravity well projector, allowing for a defensive plus when facing off against enemy ships and disabling their ability to enter into hyperspace.
