Description: The Omega Orbital Defense Platform,or O-ODP for short,was devised for the need to give every planet in Omega's territory a form of defense,whether it be from Pirates to the Fringe,the Confederation or the small fraction of Bando Gora still alive after their crushing defeat at Gehenna. The system is automated,all of them being slave to multiple computers scattered around the planet,each computer controls a different region of the defense grid of the planet. The platform is relatively small,being only 75 meters long,smaller than most Corvette-Class and boasting less weapons,it makes up for this in sheer numbers,over thousands being fielded already and thousands more predicted in the next month. While there are some downsides to it as well,low weapon count,small stature and its ability to be slave to only a few computers,but it can be shut down with a remote kill switch in need be.

Couple things;
  • Don't call them MACs. Mass Drivers are the closest Star Wars equivalent, and I don't think we're gonna be able to have them with quite the same power without a very serious dev thread.
  • HDI might be able to handle arming these things, but your gun company has never produced anything beyond the hand-held stage.
  • If a defense station is going to have crew, then most of the cargo space will be for them, not the weapons. If the goal is for a pure weapons platform, then I suggest making it antonymous and just slave the whole network to a single installation on the planet or some such.
  • As big as this is, it'll probably be asked to do a dev thread.

Done. Is there anything more heavy hitting than Heavy Turbolasers?

Decreased the size a bit.

Any sort of automated defense station probably wouldn't be more than 100 or so meters in length, and even that's a pretty big stretch. 50 would do just fine. You don't need a bunch of interior space for living quarters, command decks, R&R space. You just need enough space for the power plant and maybe a little crawl-space for engineers if they have to get onboard. Otherwise, it's just weapons stacked on a power plant.

At present, there's not anything that hits harder than a heavy turbolaser, no. Certainly not anything that could afford to be put on a mass produced automated defense station.

Ok,I decreased the size,but wouldn't that mean the weapon load would drastically be decreased.

It's a give-and-take, really.

Besides, automated defense satellites and the like are deployed en masse. They're there to be cheap and effective, to avoid the cost of having to make a giant station to be crewed and maintained. So you get a small little satellite, put two to four guns on it, then drop several hundred/thousand around a planet. Boom, you've got the defensive power of massive stations at a fraction of the cost.
