DESCRIPTION
Built in the aftermath of the battle of Tython, the Onager II answers the need for a new vessel, one able to effectively counteract the new Final Dawn behemoths freely roaming the battlefield. In an attempt to avoid dangerous sorties for the most precious vessels of the Empire, Dalness Shipbuilding dug into ancient concepts, in order to give birth to a cheap, easily replaceable ship, that could pose threat to battleships from a distance.
Designed to be used in packs, the Onager II follows a doctrine of micro-jumps to avoid being targeted by the enemy's heavy weapons, and compensating the disorientation of the after-jump by using droid brains to re-focus targeting systems. Tested in orbit of Yinchorr, the Onager II satisfied the lead engineers, proving itself threatening enough to cripple a mock battleship, and suffering very little casualties.
After refining of the concept, the design was sent to be produced en masse throughout the Empire, with hopes that a ship striking from afar can turn the tide in favour of the Empire, whilst forcing a doctrinal change and putting an end to the unending arms race towards heavier battleships and battlecarriers.

STRENGTHS
- Sniper: Equipped with extreme long-range weaponry, the Onager II specialises in strikes from far away, using its Superlaser Siege Cannon to punch a hole into the enemy's shield, whilst staying out of range and safe from most conventional weapons, making it difficult to retaliate or endanger the ship.
- Droid-assisted Targeting: Filled to the brim with computer brains and specialised targeting AIs, the Onager II is considered to be among the top-notch vessels in terms of shooting accuracy. In this regard, the Computerized Combat Predictor is especially useful to refine firing solutions and enhance the capabilities of the human crew, all the while coordinating the various AIs working to provide satisfying accuracy.
- Powerslave: With so much droid brains loaded in a single ship, it is not surprising to say that most of the crew could be disposed of somewhere else. In truth, only a handful of individuals are actually required to man the bridge, most of the crew being redundant in regard to the capabilities of the droid brains. However, current naval dogma stands that human brains are less predictable and more capable of improvisation: therefore, skeleton crews are only used in cases of dire needs.
- Agile and Surprising: Having sacrificed most of its carrying capabilities and defensive heavinesses, the Onager II is harkening back to the designs used at the very start of the Third Imperial Civil War, with focus being put on weaponry, but also speed and manoeuvrability. Like a rapier, this vessel demonstrates its agility and speed on the battlefield by being able to outrun and outmaneuver most of its conventional enemies, something very useful in face of the heavier, more cumbersome ships of the Final Dawn.
WEAKNESSES
- Blind Spot: An Imperial classic, the triangular shape of the vessel leaves a spot almost unprotected at the rear of the hull. The engines, though protected by the shields as the rest of ship, are not covered by point-defense weaponry or anti-missile turrets, leaving them exposed to enemy attacks.
- Don't trade Broadsides: Sleek and slender, the Onager II is not a ship for close brawls. Its speed and agility can only bring it so far before powerful turbolasers catch it and tear it apart. Suffering from feeble resistance and few weapons dedicated to ship-to-ship close-combat, the Onager II is best kept away from the battleline, where its long-range weaponry is not at risk of being destroyed.
SIGNIFICANT WEAKNESSES
- Chain Reaction: Built around the main weapon systems of the Superlaser Siege Cannon, Velocity Cannon and Orbital Autocannons, the Onager II is incredibly vulnerable to strikes to its backbone. If the enemy were able to concentrate enough fire to punch through the shields of the vessel, and hit the spinal weaponry, the Onager II would unmistakably get destroyed by the ensuing backlash explosions.
