GEOGRAPHIC INFORMATION
Gravity: Standard
Climate: A mostly temperate world, specifically belonging largely to the humid subtropical climate, Onami Prime has four distinct seasons, defined by hot and humid summers brought on by warm airflows from the planet's large tropical oceans, with dry and cold winters from the northern arctic oceans to contrast. Typically a rainy world, with high humidity, the planet's metropolitan eastern hemisphere can experience typhoons during particularly wet summers. The further north one goes, the colder and drier it will become, with the planet's northernmost provinces belonging to the humid continental climate range, with cool summers, and long, cold, and snowy winters.
Primary Terrain: Once having been predicted to being on the route to becoming an ecumenopolis, a series of environmentalist sentiments, and governments have ensured strong environmental protection laws. Controlling the otherwise rapid growth of the eastern hemisphere's vast mega-cities. Dominated by gargantuan skyscrapers, decorated with bright neon advertisements and holoscreens, the metropolitan half of Onami Prime is organized into circular patterns of construction, similar to Coruscant. Allowing less developed, smaller towns, and more natural environments to thrive in-between the immense urban jungles that surround them. Onami Prime has two major continental landmasses, one of which, known as Taisho, located in the east, is home to most of the planet's urban development. Beyond these two continents, the planet's large oceans are littered with tropical island chains, and archipelagos, where beautiful beaches, and jungles can be found. On the planet's second continent, Dejima, located in the west, two thirds of the land is occupied by low, forest-covered mountains, as such here, settlements are built in the fertile valleys that exist between the mountain ranges. It is in Dejima that Mount Toma is located, while the capital city is located in Taisho.

LOCATION INFORMATION
Capital City: Yariko City
Planetary Features:
Reclaimed Land: Lacking the natural space for further urban development, hundreds of artificial islands have been constructed, all of which have been built on extensively.
Force Monk Temples: Built within valleys, and on the sides of mountains, these ancient force monk temples, many of which are preserved as historical landmarks, litter Dejima.
Yariko SkyTower: The tallest tower on Onami Prime, and one of the tallest in the galaxy, this immense construct serves as a broadcasting station, and an observation deck.
Onami Railways: Designed to provide cheap, and mass transit. Onami Prime maintains a truly expansive hovertrain network which spans millions of kilometres in overall length.
Ancient Castles: Built tens of thousands of years ago, these ancient feudal structures, once the domain of lords and ladies are meticulously maintained, and tourist popular.
Yariko City Locations:
Kita Setana: One of the greatest financial, and commerce hubs in civilized space, Kita Setana is the primary financial and business district of Yariko City, and by extension, Onami Prime. Responsible for the flow of countless hundreds of trillions of credits, it is here that the Setana Exchange is based, and where galactic giants, such as the Trade Federation, Techno Union, Globex Corporation, Nakaioma Conglomerate, and InterGalactic Banking Clan all maintain regional headquarters. Overseen by colossal skyscrapers, interconnected by crowded lanes of air traffic, one can very easily become lost in this complex maze of glass, steel, and neon colors.
Okeda Interstellar Starport: A busy commercial, and freight hub. Okeda is a massive starport, located just outside of Yariko City. Annually seeing tens of billions of passengers, and trillions of tonnes of cargo passing through its terminals, it serves as Onami Prime's largest starport, and is the planet's main point of entry and departure with the rest of the galaxy. Equipped with state-of-the-art technology, and regulated by some of the strictest air traffic controllers in the Core Worlds, Okeda is home to hundreds of terminals, restaurants, cafes, hotels, and cargo holds. It is often described as being a city of its own.
Parliament Hill: As the name suggests, this district in Yariko City is home to the planetary government. It is here that Liberty Park, a long stretch of greenery that travels the length of the district, is aligned by local, and Alliance government agencies, office buildings, embassies, cultural monuments, and other landmarks. Buildings in this district are limited as to how high they can be built, as to not spoil the historical integrity of the area, and block otherwise beautiful views of the older buildings. The National Parliament, and the Prime Minister's Residence, as well as the offices of Onami Prime's Alliance representatives can all be found in Parliament Hill.
Haeko: The largest entertainment district in Yariko, Haeko is home to thousands of nightclubs, both chain, and family-owned restaurants, bars, and shopping outlets. Popular with both tourists, and local youth, it is informally known as a major fashion center. It is home to the primary, and regional headquarters of several major media corporations, both local and from other worlds, as well as being the location of two of the planet's largest hovertrain stations. A healthy mix of low-level buildings, and towering skyscrapers, the amount of bright neon holoscreens, and other such advertisements that take up huge amounts of space on most buildings is enough to blind anyone.
Onami University: Having produced tens of thousands of galaxy-renowned names in the thousands of years that it has operated, Onami University is separated into dozens of distinct campuses around the city, each dedicated to their own field of study, of which the University takes pride in teaching essentially anything that is worthy of being taught. Its largest campus rests only a short distance away from Parliament Hill, in the equally historic Tenpo district. A relief to those with a taste in the more cultural architectural styles, it is an abundance of beautiful, ancient structures, laced with exotic flora-filled gardens and pathways.
Dangjin: Located along the city's coastline, Dangjin is the district in which the millions of cargo workers, and other manual labourers who work in and around Okeda Starport, and the various industries that it supports come to spend their credits. A red-light district through and through, the police have essentially given up attempting to coral organized crime in the area, and have according to some rumors, come to an agreement with the criminal clans that have set up shop there. So long as it stays in Dangjin, it can go ahead. Ruled by cantinas, brothels, nightclubs of the more exotic, and illegal nature, fight clubs, and black markets, one can buy, or hire pretty much anything, or anyone in Dangjin.
Hashira: If its an electronic, chances are you can buy it here. The so-called 'Techno Capital' of Onami Prime, the Hashira district is home to countless amounts of electronic stores, repair shops, and development corporations. The birthplace of dozens of innovations, and now widespread inventions in its hay day, it now primarily is just one big retail outlet for such things. One can find great deals on even the most sophisticated technology, and if one has connections, or a keen eye, can even be introduced to less.. Legal technology, in the many underground stores that exist throughout the densely packed district. Be careful however, as unlike Dangjin, Hashira is still policed.
Kenbuchi Plaza: Where the rich, famous, and powerful come to play, and to rest their heads. Only a short distance by speeder from Kita Setana, it is in this opulent district that many of the galaxy's finest casinos, restaurants, and hotels can be found. Each dipped with the spice of Onami's unique culture, making them all the more luring to the wealthy far and wide. It is said that the credits spent in Kenbuchi Plaza in a single night could fuel the economy of a small planet for a week, and if one were to see the decadent luxury that exists in this district, one might be inclined to agree. A city saying goes, "while Kita Setana is where deals are signed, Kenbuchi Plaza is where they are made". After all, what better place to make connections, than over a fine seafood dinner, or in the hot springs of a seven star hotel?
The heart of Kita Setana, several major corporations host properties here.
Planetary Defense Command: The beating heart of Onami Prime's military capabilities, the P.D.C. is the primary operational headquarters of the Onami Defense Force, different in function to the Ministry of National Defense's headquarters in Parliament Hill, as that is for the most part administrative. A complex series of underground facilities, built deeply beneath the planet's soil, it is perhaps the most tightly secured location one can find planet-side. Shielded against orbital bombardment, and built to resist it even if those shields were to fail, it is guarded by divisions of troops, swarms of fighters, and a number of heavy-duty anti-aircraft weaponry. While hosting some incredibly advanced technology beneath the earth, in the form of its vast computers, and communications equipment.
Aoyama City: Somewhat begrudgingly boasting the title of the planet's second largest city, it has fallen consistently behind the only slightly larger Yuriko for most of its history. Often described as being the capital's more relaxed younger brother, Aoyama City is a center for industry, and shipping. Fondly called home by its large, formerly working class population, compared to Yariko, it has only relatively recently, within the past few centuries become a professional, white-collar focused urban center. As such its population still holds onto its working class, manual labor roots tightly, and are typically seen by outsiders, both local, and foreign, as being more friendly, and down to earth than the business-savvy, competitive Yariko-chi. It is the headquarters of several of Onami's largest manufacturing corporations, including Nakaioma Heavy Industries most notably.
Taean Heights: A gated community in every sense of the word, it is in Taean Heights that the wealthy of Onami Prime reside. Hidden away from the rest of the galaxy in ridiculously large, and ridiculously expensive homes, all custom built and designed as per the desires of the owner, this community is located a half-hour flight away from the outskirts of Yariko City, as most, if not all of the residents of Taean conduct their business here. Under twenty-four hour guard from any number of private security corporations, and local law enforcement, it would take a small army to breach these walls. And even then, it is often said that there are two lines of defense, one for the community, and one for every home in it. Needless to say, the application process to live in Taean Heights is largely based on the blood in one's veins, and their net worth.
Port Goyang: Based on the far end of the Taisho continent, Port Goyang is the main port of call between Taisho, and Dejima, connecting the two continents by trade and transport the most effectively. The tenth largest city on Onami Prime, it is far less developed than those higher on the list, still sticking strongly to its manufacturing, and working class roots. In this case it can be described aptly as being a glimpse into the Aoyama City of the past. Owned by a distinct skyline of shipyards, construction cranes, and communication towers, with only a few skyscrapers. Much less densely populated than other cities on Onami, it has had a persistent problem with organized crime, and labor unions being entwined, this systematic problem usually being dubbed the cause of the city's stagnated economic growth.
Haboro City: A commuter city for the most part, due to its strategic location between Yariko, and Aoyama cities, the majority of Haboro is comprised of vast residential districts, both in the shape of gargantuan skyscraper apartment complexes, and modest single-family homes. Safe and well policed, with a renowned public education system, eye-pleasing parks, and playgrounds in most neighborhoods, and convenient public transportation, along with the inherent job opportunities in the nearby cities, its no wonder why its described as the best city on Onami Prime to raise children. The fourth largest city on Onami, its population is mostly middle class, and the facilities that service them equally so. In high demand with those who live on the planet, for tourists and visitors however, there is little to see here.
Yesan Capitol Territory: The ancient, former capital city of Onami Prime, back in the days of the Old Republic, today it remains the cultural, and ethnic center of the Onami-chi people. Off-limits to all except the Onami-chi, activity within the city is strictly regulated, and the laws are harshly enforced, as to preserve the spiritual integrity of the city. Compared to the rest of the Taisho continent, and especially the new capital city, it is a very small, and humble settlement. Populated by low-lying, traditionally designed, and built homes, bathhouses, taverns, and temples. The entire city is maintained as meticulously as a garden, and though not strong enough to be considered a Force nexus, it is sensitive enough with the light-side to grant a sensation of warmth to those who visit. It is usually said that all Onami-chi should visit Yesan at least once in their life. New developments are forbidden within the city limits, excluding the utmost necessities, such as public utilities.
Toyama Hot Springs: Perhaps the most notable natural landmark on the metropolitan, city-occupied Taisho continent. The Toyama Hot Springs are a vast array of hot springs, scattered through a series of rock formations, and caves in the north of the continent. Fuelled by the region's powerful, but stable geothermic activity, Toyama is a popular tourist attraction, and cultural landmark. One of the first things that will be shown to those who read anything about Onami Prime, used by the locals as much as the visitors, due to the cold conditions of northern Taisho, the sheer scale of Toyama is in of itself a sight to behold, as hot springs by themselves are fairly common, and ordinary on Onami.
One of Onami Prime's poorer areas, located in Port Goyang.
Tōma Jedi Rest: Situated at the base of Mount Tōma, and away from the main routes used by the public, the Tōma Jedi Rest is a lodge of sorts for visiting Jedi to use before, or after their hike up the mountain. Equipped with a hot springs, elaborate garden, bathhouse, beds, sparring room, clinic, and food hall, all built and designed in the traditional Onami-chi ways, it is maintained by some of the planet's remaining force monks, who with an unmatched devotion, keep the facilities clean, and up to scratch for whomever may be using them. Surrounded by nothing but nature for miles in all directions, and with the run-off of light-side influence from the mountain it is next to, it is prime real estate for any light-side user to visit.
Seorak Conservation Park: To the southwest of the continent lies Seorak park, a government-run conservation scheme hundreds of miles in every direction. The largest of its kind on Onami Prime, it was established shortly after the Great Galactic War, as a means of protecting the planet's diverse fauna and flora. Open to tourists in some areas, for the most part it has remained entirely untouched by civilization of any kind, somewhat of a rarity in the Core. Hunting, or otherwise interfering with the park's delicate ecosystem can be punished with a life sentence in some cases, and though the legal ramifications for doing so have fluctuated, the social taboo never has. Made-up of mountains, forests, lakes, rivers and in its southernmost reaches, even beaches. It is truly a sight to behold.
Horokanai Township: A small settlement of only a few tens of thousands of people, Horokanai is regardless a popular name, due to it being the home of Asakai beer. One of Onami Prime's largest cultural exports, and a household name throughout the galaxy. Though most of the Asakai Corporation's operations have moved out of the town in the centuries since it gained widespread popularity, it has nevertheless kept its traditional headquarters in the small agricultural town. A typical Dejima town, it can be found comfortably nestled in the valley between two forest-covered mountain ranges, and by the river that runs through it. Its primary industries besides beer brewing are rice-farming, and logging.
Pohang Summer Palace: Once the summer residence of a powerful feudal lord over twenty thousand years ago, this landmark has stood the test of time, with only limited repairs, and annual maintenance required. Today it stands as a museum for the era, and a peak example of ancient Onami-chi architecture. Similarly to Toyama Hot Springs, the palace is one of the first pictures many will see when the planet is discussed. Sat atop a low hill, with just enough height to garner a beautiful view of the large bay that sits to its north, what once stood as a monument to the greed of man, now stands as a piece of shared cultural heritage, and a reminder of what should never be again.
Iwata City: The largest city on the continent of Dejima, it is most known for being one of the planet's hottest major cities, and for its seafood dishes, a maritime culture due to its close-knit connection with the Great Western Ocean, and the islanders who live throughout it, for much of its older history, its primary industry was fishing. It is less popular with foreigners, but more popular with domestic travellers. Off-world it is perhaps best known for Iwata KuKu fish, a very expensive seafood dish specially prepared for cliental that are willing to pay for the quality. Built on the largest portion of flat land on the entire continent, the city's growth has required the construction of dozens of artificial islands over the millennia, and Iwata City today now almost appears to be an archipelago of inter-connected islands itself.
Mighty Zaō Crater: Resulting from an asteroid collision fifteen thousand years ago, the Zaō crater has long since been subject to superstition, and romanticism in Onami-chi culture. Believed to have supernatural connections, it has been the topic of many books, both factual, and fictional. Stories of strange occurrences, and sightings in fictional media are popular settings. While actual claims by individuals of unnatural activity appear every so often, only to be debunked as hoaxes. The crater was however the sight of a fierce battle between a small number of Jedi and Sith warriors during the Great Galactic War, a fact that has only given more reason for rumors to rise.
A traditional Onami-chi village, located somewhere in Dejima.
Shōnai Islands: Nicknamed the Market Islands by some, the Shōnai Islands, far from both continents, have always been research hubs for corporate entities, both big and small. With lax, if any enforcement, or regulations, both ethically and legally, the islands, of which there are hundreds, are leased out by the government to corporations interested in developing new products without restraint. Unintentionally, many of the islands have also become summer homes for the heads of these various corporations, with large luxurious mansions not being a rare sight for many of them. A topic of strong controversy in the public sphere, no serious political movement has yet started to stop this practice.
Hanam Islands: Some distance off the coast of Dejima, the Hanam Islands are the most populated chain of islands on Onami Prime. Settled not long after the first humans appeared on the planet, it has since developed its own uniquely Hanam culture. Even the dialect of Onami-ko spoken by the Hanam Islanders is at times hard to understand for the rest of the planet. A simple, traditional people, the Hanam Islanders live in largely the same ways as their ancestors did, excluding the assistance of technology as it has changed over the years. Somewhat overpopulated, many of the Islands' largest towns have expanded outwards into the ocean, with homes, businesses, medcenters, and schools floating above the water on secure platforms, connected to piers which serve as walkways.
Shield Island: Closely tied with the Planetary Defense Command for Onami's most secure location, and closely tied with the PDC overall via secure networks, Shield Island is home to the operational center for the planet's orbital defense network. Like its mainland sibling, protected by a shield generator, and squadrons of fighters, it would require far more than a small army to break through its doors. Once the site of an ancient warlord's island fortress, the remains of this historic landmark can still be found dispersed between the hyper-modern military facilities of the Orbital Defense Command.
A common sight on the Hanam Islands.
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
- Force Nexus: Yes
Intent: Once home to an ancient force-sensitive, light side organization, which was long ago integrated into the old Jedi Order. This history, alongside Onami Prime's native force-embalmed Nakuno trees, has made the world abundant with light side influence. (Create an aesthetic, eastern natural setting for light-side meditation & character development).
Nexus Name: Mount Tōma - Nexus Alignment: Light
- Size: Large
- Strength: Strong
- Accessibility: Protected by planetary law, Mount Tōma is open to the general public for hiking, however some portions of it are off-limits, as to provide visiting Jedi with a private place for meditation. Redevelopment of the land is strictly forbidden, as it is owned by the government. There are a number of small landing pads at several sites along the rims of the mountain, and its surrounding valley and forest, allowing convenient access for any visiting Jedi. Located on the planet's more rural western hemisphere, there are only small villages, towns, and other such primarily agricultural, or logging settlements nearby.
- Effects: Bringing a relieving sense of calm, and clear-minded resolve. Mount Tōma is first and foremost a place of meditation, as it was used as such by the planet's native monks for centuries before the arrival of the Jedi. Here, it becomes much easier for one to look within, and to focus on developing one's character. Capable of strengthening even the most indecisive person's spirit, it is on this mountain that several famous Jedi from centuries past have found the courage to make otherwise impossible decisions, with the mountain having a unique ability to bring compromise between a person's mind, and their heart.

POPULATION
Native Species: Dejima Konka, Red-Dotted Tori, Firecatcher Crane, Round-Nosed Herajika | Human (Sentient)
Immigrated Species: Snow Bantha, Jakobeast, Kaadu | Lurmen (Sentient), Kessurian (Sentient), Shozer (Sentient)
Population: Crowded, 1 Trillion (Est)
Demographics: Mostly populated by Onami-chi humans, the planet's cosmopolitan financial and commercial hubs are more diverse, both in human diversity, and species. In some of the planet's poorer urban regions, larger numbers of alien sentients can be found, often hired by domestic corporations as cheap manual labor. Socially isolationist, despite their large involvement in the galactic economy, many native Onami-chi's feelings on foreigners range from simple discomfort to hatred. Many non-human species residing on Onami Prime experience this in subtle ways, whether it be lost job opportunities, or glances on public transport.
Primary Languages: Onami-ko, Galactic Basic
Culture: Onami-chi culture is built around three things, family, reputation, and authority. Influenced by Aomarism, a thought and behavioral system developed, and written about by Le Aomari over twenty thousand years ago, Onami-chi culture is intended to remain stable, collectivist, and hierarchial, though perhaps more accurately described as a way of life. Aomarism is utilized in all forms, personal, familial, in workplaces, and in the government, well and truly ingrained in Onami-chi culture, it is primarily this Aomarist thinking that has led to a lack of any real religion finding a foothold on the planet, as even the Force is looked at as but a force of nature, and is respected as such, not worshipped, or revered like a sentient being. Likewise, reputation plays a major role in the maintenance of the social hierarchy, as those whom step out of line, or act inappropriately, are subject to intense peer pressure, and scrutiny. Out of these three pillars, the cultural perception and function of the family has changed the most, mostly due to the development of Onami Prime from a traditional, developing society, to a post-industrial, professional one.
Over the centuries, Onami-chi families have begun to shift from being based on multi-generational living, to the more common 'nuclear family' of other human societies in the galaxy, although even today it is still very common, albeit in part due to economic pressure on young people, to find multi-generational households. Unlike many worlds across the galaxy, Onami Prime has found a balance that it is comfortable with between modern life, and its traditional culture, taking care, intentionally or unintentionally, in never abandoning one for the other. Though blessed with a large, and innovative technology, and electronics industry, the advanced, towering skyscrapers of Yariko City can be found with small, traditional housing and shrines right next-door. While this is still true today, most Onami-chi are incredibly technologically-savvy, many owning a dozen or more personal devices for a variety of reasons, business and personal alike, due to high living standards, and wages.
Of course, the culture between the planet's metropolitan, modern, hyper-competitive, and capitalistic eastern hemisphere, can be contrasted wildly with the rural, traditional living of the planet's western hemisphere, and the maritime cultures that exist on the planet's thousands of islands, and the harsh arctic nomadic lifestyle of those who live near the planet's north and south poles. Typically a conservative people no matter where one goes however, the Onami-chi have for a majority of their history been very personally isolationist, and wary of foreigners, a fact which appears to go against the business-savvy, and integrated nature of their economics with the rest of the galaxy. In terms of sports, historically sword-based sparring was popular, however in the contemporary era, games such as Nuna-ball, surfboarding, and volleyball have dominated the attention of the public, while in the world of cuisine, seafood based diets have always been the norm, due to the planet's somewhat tropical islander culture, and vast oceans, with long-stretching coastlines. In the life of an everyday person, a strong emphasis is placed on education by their parents, getting into a good university is of paramount importance, and Onami-chi teenagers will often spend copious amounts of time studying in-order to do so.
The workplace is far less competitive than the education system, due to Aomarist ethics on authority, and order, but social customs are strongly enforced, and being late will certainly get stares thrown one's way. To balance this out however, Onami-chi contemporary entertainment culture is seen as one of the more eccentric, and fun-loving in the Core, and has since become very popular on other worlds. Onami-chi HoloNet shows, music, films, and animations are especially popular with foreigners.
A bowl of Shenhua, a classic Onami-chi vegetable meal.
GOVERNMENT & ECONOMY
Government: Unitary Parliamentary Republic
Wealth: Wealthy, a deep cultural work ethic, and vast natural resources, along with their world's strategic position between the converging points of several major hyperlanes and trade routes has ensured that Onami Prime has never struggled for credits or materials throughout its long history. Though it hasn't always been the white collar, professional service economy that it is today. Known for many centuries as a major industrial world, manufacturing heavy machinery, and the components required to assemble them elsewhere. The planet's large population and aforementioned work ethic made the Onami-chi prime candidates for any megacorporation's work force. Benefitting greatly in the economic recession following the Great Galactic War, due to the cheap cost of manufacturing that the planetary government intentionally maintained. It was in this era that Onami Prime became the powerhouse that it was, and it was during the reign of the old Galactic Empire that it begun its transition into the mostly post-industrial economy that it is today, as the Empire transferred those operations to worlds like Kuat, and neighboring Vulpter. Using the strong economy it had built up over centuries to fund programs for mass higher education, propping up domestic corporations, welcoming diversified foreign investment, and encouraging skilled immigration for the first time in its history. This period of rapid economic growth and transition has been dubbed the Miracle on the River Huan, after a large river in Yariko City.
Stability: High. Following the ancient philosophical doctrine of Aomarism has proven to be very beneficial towards the stability of the planet. Emphasising authority, this cultural desire for social harmony can be seen reflected in the calm, calculating nature of Onami-chi society, and governance. Power-struggles are not common, and when they do occur, they occur quietly, as to not openly upset the status quo. The government is seen as existing to serve the greater interest of the people, and vice versa, working in tandem to ensure a peaceful civilization. Though not the most well-suited culture or society to adapt democracy for, as the Onami-chi tend to respect strong, centralized authority more, Onami Prime regardless maintains a stable, and strong democratic system, as currently it is the best system for business. Crime is drastically lower here than on other worlds, even in the Core, not only due to extensive, and well-funded police and security services, but the basic nature of the Onami-chi people. If one avoids the few districts of the largest urban areas known for criminal activity, they can live an entirely safe life on the planet. Organized crime is widespread, but mostly does not affect the average citizen, and remains within the realms of the underworld.
Freedom & Oppression: Both on an individual level, and in commerce, Onami Prime is an entirely free world. The police are well-trained, and overseen by the government, although the sentences for even minor criminal acts can be heavy compared to most other worlds in the Core due to the Onami-chi culture surrounding such taboos. Freedom of speech, religion and the press are all protected and guaranteed by the planet's own constitution, while the government itself is a mostly healthy conservative democracy, only irregularly burdened by the occasional government overreach, or indecisive parliament. Like everything on Onami Prime however, if one is involved with the wrong people, or looks where they shouldn't be looking, things can become dangerous for them very quickly. With an entire world of fighting between internal factions, the government, organized crime, and corporations remaining hidden to the public.
MILITARY & TECHNOLOGY
Military: Protected by the Onami Defense Force, Onami Prime maintains a substantial military force due to both its location between two hyperspace lanes, which require constant patrolling in-order to secure trade, and the general instability of the galaxy at large. Divided into the Onami Naval Defense Force, and the Onami Ground Defense Force, the military maintains a diverse arsenal from a number of manufacturers from around the galaxy. Given a mandate of self-defense, the ODF is designed largely around this idea, as such it does not invest in power projection capabilities. Instead developing strategic weapons such as its orbital defense network, a series of powerful ship-killing turrets in orbit around their homeworld, while its Navy, as relatively powerful it is, is focused around harassment attacks, in the face of a more powerful invading force. Large, very well-funded, equipped, and trained, the ODF excels at its given role.
Technology: Galactic Standard.
HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Little is known about how the current Onami-chi people arrived on what is today their homeworld. Believed to have arrived almost thirty thousand years ago, there has been countless theories, investigations and papers since about the relationship of the Onami-chi, and the Atrisians, with many claiming that there must be some form of prior historical link between the two. As of 864ABY, no solid evidence has emerged to back up this claim, although it is still widely speculated upon. The first Onami-chi were primarily agricultural and excluding whatever technology they used to get to Onami Prime (If it was even theirs to begin with) very low in technological inventory. Mostly utilizing incredibly primitive iron and sometimes steel tools to get their many feudal occupations done. In the earliest centuries of the planet's development, the Onami-chi were divided into various feudal warlord states, ruled by both cruel and kind military leaders from atop their castles.
This state of affairs would exist for almost ten thousand years until the planet's integration into the Galactic Republic. A process which was relatively easy as the planet's technological standing was far too low to prove any real opposition, that combined with the population's overwhelming urge to throw off the shackles of their feudal overlords, and embrace the modern technology and ways of the Republic. One theory surrounding the Onami-chi's connection to the Atrisians is that it was at this time that many of the Republic's settlers interbreeded with the native Onami-chi, creating what we know today as the modern Onami people. This era is known as the Great Advancement, and it was as the name would suggest a time of significant progress for the planet and its people, as the Republic introduced them to both democratic styles of government, as well as their technology.
Unlike many primitive worlds that the Republic had encountered, Onami Prime distinguished itself by how easily and rapidly it was capable of adapting to the vastly superior, strange and even alien technology it had been introduced to. Modernizing and later industrializing at an incredibly fast pace, no doubt helped by the Onami people's inherently powerful work ethic and group strength. It would seem like entire cities were cropping up all across the planet overnight, and as a new government introduced universal healthcare, education and public utilities, the birth rate would explode accordingly, skyrocketing as people were introduced to what they had previously thought to be unheard of luxuries, but which to most of the Core Worlds by this point were simple everyday necessities. Only a short while after the Republic had integrated Onami Prime as a member world, it had reached its first ten billion people, for the next several thousand years the gap between milestones would only ever decrease, reaching their first fifty, then one hundred, then two hundred billion people after and after. Despite galactic crisis' and wars besieging the world on all sides.
It was during the Galactic War between the Republic and Sith Empire that Onami Prime would find its ground with an economy focused around heavy industries, supplying the Republic with all of the ores, minerals and raw materials it required. Onami-chi construction firms were well-sought after throughout the galaxy due to their expertise in the maintenance and building of vital infrastructure, while the world itself grew fat off of the profits of war and geopolitical strife. It was after the Galactic War that the planetary government of Onami Prime, which by this point had grown incredibly centralized and stable, benefiting off of the planet's conformist cultural norms, saw the need for a defense force of its own. Instead of relying entirely on the Republic, which was clearly overstretched, or local militias, which wouldn't stand a chance in preventing an actual invasion. The Onami Defense Force was formed as such, headquartered out of the Planetary Defense Command, where it continues to serve to this day.
Thousands of years later, by the time of the Clone Wars, Onami Prime had entirely overhauled its economy. Growing a luxury-ridden, satisfied, intelligent and hard-working labor force, the planet had by in large moved away from its heavy industrial roots, instead becoming a galactic center for advanced medical technologies and where many components for other technologies are designed and manufactured. Several major communications and electronics corporations had headquarters on the world, while NAKAIOMA, a (at the time) new and still rising corporation, begun to draw more attention towards the planet as a technological hub. Onami Prime itself was the target of an attempted Separatist invasion, after their many attempts to get the planet to secede from the Republic willingly had failed, but a combined operation between the Republic Navy, and Onami Naval Defense Force was able to successfully thwart this would-be attack.
One would think that a planet that was home to the conformist Onami people would have embraced the rule of the Empire under Palpatine. It didn't. Forced to accept a heavy Imperial military presence due to its strategic location and nature, as well as the return of disgusting heavy industries, the people of Onami Prime quickly grew to resent their Imperial masters, in no small part due to their foreign nature. It was the idea of being lorded over by outsiders that especially led to boiling tensions, Imperials were smug, arrogant and believed themselves to be superior, most of the time due to their Coruscanti-birth. It is often said by scholars that it was the first Galactic Empire that drew out Onami Prime's now somewhat xenophobic tendencies, or at the very least revealed them. During the Galactic Civil War, the Onami Prime planetary government would be a secret supporter of the Rebel Alliance, with the planet's Imperial senator being its representative to the rebels, they would supply the Alliance with much of their advanced technological equipment.
When the Yuuzhan Vong invaded the galaxy, Onami Prime suffered extensive orbital bombardment. Densely populated and extremely urbanized, the planet's vast megacities were easy pickings for the overwhelmingly superior extra-galactic invaders. Though the planet was eventually saved by a relief fleet, tens of billions would lay dead by the end of the Vong's terrifying bombing campaign. Today a gargantuan memorial park sits near the heart of Yariko City to commemorate those lost. Not long after, but long enough for the planet to have mostly recovered, the reconstruction effort long having been hailed as one of the most comprehensive, and quickest in the galaxy, the Gulag virus would strike. It was here, that the planet's relatively newfound xenophobic nature would prove handy, as the planetary government had quickly closed its borders, and as the virus intensified, and entire worlds begun to go dark, the ODF would resort to shooting down any ships attempting to flee. To this day the government refuses to comment on how many refugees were lost during the containment efforts.
It was these extreme measures that would save Onami Prime for the worst of the Four Hundred Year Darkness, supported also by the NAKAIOMA Corporation, the planet would ride out the storm of anarchy and chaos that gripped the galaxy. Its government surviving in-tact, though with strict martial law, rationing and other such measures being forced into law as the world lost almost all of its imports, leaving it to provide entirely for itself, and its vast population. It is widely agreed that it was the Gulag Virus, and the following Four Hundred Year Darkness that levelled out Onami Prime's population growth, with it now growing at a much more stable and slow rate than it had been before.
