ONE EVENING IN CORUSCANT...

LpZ6tz.jpg

Location: Kalipher's Restaurant and Bar , Coruscant.
Time: late evening

Oda slept away a whole day once she got back to her apartment at The Veda Pearl and felt much better for it. The journey back from Tatooine had been hell.

She woke to the wall shifting between faint blue and pink from the neon signs outside. Her mind felt calmer, her memories more formed; but there was no time to lounge about. Her job was only half finished. She got up and picked out an elegant outfit of cream slacks and matching blouse -- going to somewhere like Kalipher's in plain clothes would ironically draw more unecessary attention. Eyeshadow and lipstick on, a couple of sprays of musky perfume at her neck, and she was out the door.

Now she was in Coruscant, she was Valso Minik. Just another white-collar citygirl.

Oda felt the cold weight of the safebox in her purse bumping against her hip as she took swift steps towards Kalipher's, her heels clicking on the walkway. How much had the effort been worth? 10,000? 15,000?

'Ms Minik!,' Kalipher's zeltron host enthused when she arrived at the restaurant's doorway. 'It's been a while. Let me take your coat. Oh my, that necklace is divine...'

'Evening, Lazru,' Oda said as the zeltron skillfully slipped the arms of her coat off her. 'Indeed it has, and thank you. Where is Harper?'

'In the back, Madam. I've been told to take you right to him.'

'Lead the way.'

Lazru weaved them through the buzz and laughter of the main dining hall to the door of one the private back rooms. Oda blinked slowly, remembering she had been in there before. It had been a beautiful space, half made of glass that allowed you see the city skyline. It was decorated with low black couches and miniature ornamental trees. There had been a holotable too, though she couldn't recall who she had seen on it. She remembered the pine smell of the place distinctly.

The zeltron knocked twice: 'Mister Harper? Ms Minik has arrived.'

The few around Dorian laughed in unison as he lifted his drink to salute his own joke. A few laughed a touch too hard, something Dorian saw instantly - no doubt trying to placate a rich man's ego at a chance at some deal to either steal his own funds, or to at least engross their own. The banker was sickened by such obvious manipulation, and it took more than he cared to admit to not twist that fake smile of his into a disdainful scowl and tell them to leave that very second.
Maliphant may have been like that, but Dorian could not be. His public persona and personality were carefully crafted and monitored by his AI to ensure it was consistent, to always seperate his identity from that of the infamous Sith Lord Darth Maliphant. The world of banking often appreciated such nuetrality, even if Dorian would have preferred one face alone.
Even if it was more at the behest of Srina Talon Srina Talon than himself.
The zeltron hostess's voice came through the door just barely over the laughing escapades of his business partners for the night. With a nod, Dorian watched as a nearby security droid opened the door and returned to its place - leaving him looking directly into the eyes of Valso Minik Valso Minik . She had done enough to look presentable to the party, but the Dorian personality idly thought that she should have worn a dress instead. Maliphant didn't care.
"Apologies, friends.", Dorian offered as he set down his kyber crystal champagne glass.
"It appears business calls. I wish you all a pleasant night, and please make sure to get in contact with Cybele when you have the chance.", the banker mused.
The crowd slowly stood and made their way out of the room, until the very last - an overly drunken senator - was less pleasantly almost dragged from the VIP room. Dorian sighed heavily as Valso entered, motioning her to sit nearest his own spot at the head of the table. His decadent tone and finesse seemed to fall away as he suddenly put more attention on wiping his fingers with a nearby wet rag.
"Did you find it?", he asked dryly, not giving her the eye contact most would deserve.

Valso stood aside as the men passed, and it took a degree of effort not to roll her eyes; such types were all the same to her. They stank of alcohol and aftershave.

Poor Lazru smiled through gritted teeth, pink hair falling into his eyes as he managed to corral the last senator out: 'Just call if you need anything, Sir~ Ms Minik.' He gave them both polite, hurried bows and then closed the door behind him.

They were alone.

Valso tilted her head up and strode towards the table, her shoes breaking the silence. She glanced over at the beautiful view behind Dorian with its electric-blue hue of the city before looking to him... or trying, as she couldn't catch his gaze. That set her teeth on edge, but she still longed for his approval. It was the first time seeing him since she set off after her recovery.... well, sort of. This was the first time she had seen 'Dorian' since her accident, and her memory was still mulling over Dorian, figuring him out... she had met him before, but not too many times, though this ritual of seeking things for him seemed familiar to her. Valso took the offered seat and smoothed out the lap of her slacks. She stole a brief behind her when one of the guests hooted with muffled laughter as he headed off down the corridor.

'Of course I did,' she said cooly, reaching into the cream purse hanging from her shoulder. She crossed her legs and eyed the half-finished bottle of champagne and variously filled kyber crystal glasses that littered the table. 'I told you I wouldn't fail you.' She pulled out the small, silver box that had come all the way from Tatooine and placed it on the table before her. With one silver-nailed finger she slid it towards Dorian over the polished suraface. 'He wasn't happy telling me where it was, so I had to push him. Really push him. Makes me think it's the real deal, whatever it is, Sir.' She paused and waited, hoping this would warrant him looking her in the eye.

Dorian slid the box over to him, and slowly undid the locking binds that kept it closed. As he opened it, there was a wave of dark side energy - slow and wafting, as though it spilled out from the box rather than flew. Harper watched it for a few seconds before plucking it from the case with a cock of his brow - and before them was a small ring. Something Maliphant was familiar with.
This ushed his gaze to meet hers despite the deadpan expression he carried;
"Do you know what this is, Nyx?", he asked rhetorically.
"This is a ring I made years ago. Gave it to a woman by the name of Braith - to assist her in hunting down anyone she wanted in the galaxy. We were not friends, and I had no real reason to do so; but it helped spread my reputation as an alchemist to the highest echelons of Sith society.", he said with a quiet muse, the corner of his lip upturning.
He spun it between his fingers for a few moment before offering it to her.
"Now, it is yours. You will use it to track down Sith who have left the Sith, those who hold issue with the Sith, and bring them to me. For a new Order, a new Alliance. Together, we will kill the Worm Emperor."

Though Oda's sense of the Force was not as strong as it could or should be, she felt that. She was impressed that the encasement had so well cloaked what lay inside.

She most certainly hadn't expected for Dorian's hand to extend out to her and offer the ring pinched between his fingers. It glinted ominously under the restauarant lights.

'I understand, Master,' she replied, taking it and feeling its power chase halfway up her arm like goosebumps. 'I will make sure their fates all run towards you.'

She smiled inwardly -- she felt so honoured to be given this. Have such responsbility, such purpose. She was essentially to be the hand of her master across the galaxy. He saw her potential. Her fist around the ring tightened still.
