Captain Saren,

Regarding the message you sent me a few days ago, I have read through it and come to the conclusion that I can help. The droids that you see in the employ of Silk Holdings for the reconstruction of Coruscant was indeed of my make and I immensely appreciate you taking your time to seek me out for this.

Because I understand we are both women with precious little time to dilly-dally I will keep it brief. I am willing to draw up an assortment of droids of various sizes to help maintain your project. I might have my objections about being on a need-to-know basis, but since the droids you have asked me to deliver are hardly going to be able to be used as frontline infantry I’ll overlook it.

With pleasantries taken care of all I really need of you is a description.

What is it that you will expect of the droids that I am going to make?

Lady Talith,

I wanted to thank you for spearing to the heart of the matter, for I was never one for digital niceties; as the Supreme Commander can attest too.

In regards to the droids themselves, I am looking for a variant that can operate within the fluted corridors of a Starship, assisting and replacing the organic crew aboard should the vessel run afoul of turmoil that would prove to be hazardous to organics.

What I had in mind was similar to Astromech droids, and how they can perform the most basic of maintenance aboard a Starfighter or a Freighter, but on a larger scale and are specially designed to work both within a sentient habitable environment and deep space. With these basic expectations in mind, considering your recent efforts on Coruscant, I believe that you'll surpass what I've humbly asked for and create a wonderful addition to our current endeavour.

And while it goes against your reservations of being kept in the dark, I assure you that it's done with the best intentions - as we wouldn't like to see our efforts be for nothing, should confidential information be inadvertently leaked.

Captain Saren,

Sounds like the job for a droid I can make. I have been thinking over the last few hours, and if I didn't know any better I'd say that what you are looking for is someone -- a droid -- who can ascend and descend any surface available within and outside of a ship's hull. Right now I am thinking either repuslorlifts or magnetic track for keeping the droid both stable and able no matter the situation. It might grow a bit in size compared to the schematics and ideas that I was handed, but there's nothing to say that this particular droid would be any less useful because of its size.

Heck, if you can afford it I could most likely do both. One for the interior and the other for the exterior while also keeping them running on the same system, much like the Silkworm-class on Coruscant, only with the added benefit of rather than one jack-of-all-trades you get two masters for each field.

In any case, think the proposal over and get back to me ASAP. I will get to work on sketching up some new schematics until then.

Lady Talith,

I wanted to apologize for the tardy reply, with our recent liberation of Coruscant and subsequent pushes further into One Sith-held territory, I've found myself with considerably less time than I would've liked to work on this private project. My hope is that you'll forgive me for keeping you waiting. Nevertheless, to bring this back on point, I like the idea of having two variations of the same droid - each able to specialize, rather than placing the sole focus of everything into a single mechanical shell. In regards to the size? I think that will be of little issue, especially if the droid was designed for exterior repairs. More ground coverage, and should - in theory - reach it's intended destination far quicker than it's interior counterpart.

Funding for Project: Starbird is of little issue. The Federal Council's agreed with my plan to provide them with a next generation warship that will hopefully serve, not only as a deterrence to foreign powers - but as a capable platform from which to combat any hostile threats that may arise during our period of consolidation. So, as you can imagine, we'd benefit from getting not only the best of the best (Which is why I came to you, rather than approaching Mr. Shule at the Republic Engineering Corporation.) but garnering an impressive line of droids from an already well-known manufacturer.

As Coruscant is slowly recovering from the battle, we have been able to restore portions of the Works district and the plethora of old factories they have within. So, as I'm looking to purchase a hefty amount of these Custom droids, if you require the additional workspace for your employees and the machinery necessary for their creation, the Alliance is willing to provide the required space in which to see this order finished. Well, as long as you're not adverse to hiring some of the local populace into your workforce, as they're desperately in need of some work.

Let me know what you think, and I shall get back to you after I finish dealing with an illegal salvage operation.

Captain Saren,

A tardy reply is of no issue. I have been sketching back and forth on some concepts but nothing has really struck me as a particularly cost efficient solution. No matter what the budget you have going for you I will be looking into ways that would make things as cheap as possible for you and your people. Yes, technically this is not how you run a company, but the Alliance has always been good to me and my family so I see no reason not to repay that kindness.

I do, however, appreciate the offer for an extended workspace. My company might have grown, but we’re far from huge. Anything you can offer, I will take.

As for the designs, I came up with another two of them:

The first is very similar to the Pisoteka droid in concept (that’s a buzz droid, if you prefer to call them that.) Essentially, rather than sabotage your ship it would focus on fixing smaller damages both internally as well as externally. This would by all means include some of the more finer details of fixing internal damage such as cut wires and similar annoyances.

The second is more akin to a tank running its routine on the exterior. We’re talking something that would clamp on to the surface of a ship and repair what lesser machines and mortals could not such as breaches and in some very minor cases reattaching small sections of a hull. That is to say, if the units work in unison and if all of them were to be outfitted with miniature tractor beams such as those available in the Silkworm-class droid seen around Coruscant and the reconstruction efforts there.

And yes, all of these droids would work within a conjoined neural network to ensure all work is delegated in a manner that would make everything as efficient as possible.

In any case, those are my ideas. I look forward to hearing what you think of them.

Lady Talith,

We take care of those that take care of us, Lady Talith, I’m hoping to cultivate more mutually beneficial relationships with other companies in the future, so that this project can see the light of day, and not be stuck in conceptual development hell. Nevertheless, I’ll speak with the acting Governor of Coruscant and see what buildings we can secure for you and your technicians, as well as seeing to the most technologically savvy citizens lending themselves to you and yours in whatever way they can. (If required, we can shoulder the burden of their wages so they can live comfortably and are fully covered by whatever benefit plans your employees have.)

In regards to the designs, I have to say that I’m impressed with what ideas you’ve given to me. Repurposing the ancient Pisoteka droids, at least in concept, would prove to be a useful addition to our militaries hardware for delicate repairs. In both the medical and technical aspects at least, as I’m sure our deck crews would appreciate not having to make the daily visit to the MedBay to get their hands bathed in Bacta.

For the other, more bulbous design you’ve mentioned, I feel like there’s an esoteric vibe coming from the mental imagery it’s invoked. You wouldn’t by chance happen to know of these… what were they called again, Ah yes! Orbalisks - would you? Those parasitic creatures found primarily, if not historically, on the jungle moon of Dxun? Nasty creatures. For some reason when I read through your message, I thought of them. They wouldn’t by chance be adhering to the outer hull and self-replicating would they? The mere thought of a semi-organic machine birthing another of its kind makes my stomach crawl.

Regardless, I’m very interested in seeing these droids become fully realized, and may - in the future - see about commissioning more if they match our expectations.
